On the westside, there are farmers markets like the La Cienega where $4/lb organic heirloom tomatoes are $2/lb for the ones with slight imperfections. I am glad watching this because I won't even try to buy tomatoes at the wholesale terminal. I also buy the organic heirloom cherry tomatoes for $3/lb at the Spring St La River market on Thursdays, as well as Monterey Park farmer's market. I am just sharing this because it's always nice to buy perfectly ripened fruit that you can handpick
True that, but we don’t always have the opportunity to get them hand picked all the time. We only go to LA once every 2 months or so on a weekend…. we can’t go every Tuesday or Thursday and get other choices and our markets here in Vegas are okay but nothing even like the terminal. It’s awesome you can though! We do what we can as should everyone. We try our best and do get loads of produce at the weekend markets (we went to 5 markets this weekend). I personally love the terminal. Living in Canada we never had anything close to that and prices were super high and pretty much everything was imported so to me, it’s incredible and I’m very happy going to the terminals!!! It’s so much cheaper than Las Vegas too.
freeze-dry dragon fruit? I once got a massive amount of red dragon fruit and I peeled them, cubed them and placed in a glass mason jars, til the jars were packed and I froze them that way. They freeze really well this way. They make a great addition to sweet and sour fruit salads because they are too sweet on their own.
Yeah freeze drying is next level!! We do freeze them too for smoothies but freeze drying is a totally different process and they taste like space candy!
I just heard you say you are going to freeze dry the strawberries. Another way that I use strawberries when I get too many is to juice them through the tribest Shine juicer. John Kohler has one, if he would allow you to test it out. I put the pulp through 3 times, so seeds are mainly left. Very healing and it's thick. The only thing is to follow a very thorough protocol to remove pesticides if they are not organic. I only buy organic berries.
We just get whatever berries look good but we won’t be juicing them. I prefer them in smoothies and we like them freeze dried on nice cream and make a powder for dressing boosts! We have 5 trays ready to go! 97% of the nutrition remains in freeze drying, better than any form of processing.
Our friend Chris Kendall found one in Saskatoon Canada which is not considered a major hub. He also found a great one in Sweden. They do exist in some places that are not major cities, obviously not all places will have one but one might be surprised at what one can find 😊

Hello, I was wondering what times would the operating hours be? Would they be closed by 9am?
I’m not sure when they close honestly - but most usually leave by then. The majority of them are fresh and loaded up around 5am - best time to go imo
