  • I Chased and Paced this Rio Grande lettered, “Silverton Mixed” train with rare, mid train helper until they tie up in Silverton for the night. The Durango and Silverton NGRR commemorated the K-28 locomotives 100-years of service during their Fall Photo Special.
Part 1 includes the 7:05 AM (dark) departure from Durango with locomotives #473 and #476 mid train. I capture the sound of the 32nd Street crossing with the sights and sounds from the 36th Street crossing. I pace the train through the valley and record the stop for water at Hermosa.
Trading off cab duties was Jon Cox, Joe Dailey, Kylah and Nick Breeden. Dylan Rogers, Russell Heerdt, Nick Battelo and Kyle Danielson were conductors and brakemen.
WARNING: Audio Technical Problems until Silverton arrival, Sorry.
More Silverton Mix With Mid Train Helper:
"Before The Departure" captures the mid train helper train being put together and the departure before the sun peaked over the mountains. “Part 2” includes the Hermosa water stop, Hermosa departure, Shalona Lake crossing and the Rockwood arrival and departure.
The "Arrival" captures the arrival from Kendall Mountain in Silverton.
"Turning The Mix" shows how this mid train helper train is split up to turn the train around.
"Spot and Tie Up" shows the final moves, spotting the passenger and freight cars and servicing the locomotives for the morning departure.
