As a history buff myself, I cannot say enough positive things about this video! Absolutely beautiful from start to finish! I love how you’ve blended in sights and sounds from the Battle of Peleliu, the music you selected for the video, the cinematography and your authentic reactions to standing on such sacred grounds. Fantastic work and one of the best videos I’ve ever seen on UA-cam period!
I love to see and read such an incredible review my friend! I really appreciate that and so glad you were able to enjoy this so much 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
@aperezvoyages wow man not for nothing that was an incredibly well made documentary. Very smooth editing and im not joking when I say if u did this to other battlefields from multiple wars you can make some real money
People these days literally don’t care about history. They have no idea what our grandparents and great grandparents fought for. So many things taken completely for granted. The people who fought this war are no longer here to share their story. We have only what they left behind to tell the tales. Thank you so much for sharing this story. Huge respect!
Appreciate the deep appreciation for the bigger picture of history’s significance and role today!
My father's baptism in fire was on Peleliu. He was wounded at Bloody Nose Ridge, had the shrapnel removed and finish the fight. He would later fight on Leyte and Okinawa and later was part of the security force in the Philippines after the war.
My father was in the First Marine on Pellieu . He survived prior landings on Guadalcanal and Okinawa. The unbelievable waste of life was horrific. He told me story’s of loosing 90% of his unit during those landings. Pellieu was especially brutal. Following Pellieu he was on Tinian preparing to spearhead the main landing of Japan. He told us he surely would have been killed if that had taken place. He said he felt his luck would run out. Had the bomb not been delivered and used, myself and my siblings would most likely not be here today.
Holy moly that’s some real life perspective right there! Thank you for sharing your fathers story and testimonials 🤍
My fathers story is very similar! He was very quiet about his experiences. I am an only child and my uncle told me I was very lucky to be here.
The Invasion of Okinawa was after Peleliu. March 1945.
@@soundwave6083 yes I personally do know that Okinawa was after Palelieu once the fighting was over. My father was sent to China. He never spoke of his time in the south Pacific.
Years later, my mother received a letter from three young girls in Pennsylvania, who stated that they always loved and prayed for my father, as he saved their father‘s life by Care carrying him a mile during battle so that he could be shipped to the hospital ship. We never knew that either.
My father was a very proud marine. We celebrated the Marine Corps birthday every year, and I was expected to stand when the Marine corps hymn was played, and I was taught a great love for my country and for the valor of good men by my father .
What unit was your father in? The First Marine Division was never on Tinian.
If I were a wealthy individual....This is my passion...To walk the battlefields of the past. You are living my dream
But please remember, peace is more precious than war...a thousasnd fold. Forget the infatuation with gunnery, bombs, booms, and bangs...I think walking a historic area where peace was at the forefront rather than strife would be more rewarding. And I am a retired 22 plus year vet having mustanged thru the ranks..from early 70's Vietnam era, to Grenada and Panama to the first Gulf war....so please don't consider me a pacifist. Any vet would prefer to talk about living a life without war as opposed to one that is excited about it including all the details of military destructive technology and the history thereof.. Just a thought.
@@CRuf-qw4yv I respect that. My hat is off to you in total respect. Thank you. ✌️
Yep
Listing to birds is slightly different than unbelievable noise and smells and dead people.
I get that, I do. I'm gonna assume you are an American like me who shares your dream of touring these Battlefields. That said let me ask you-what about Shiloh? Stones River? Vicksburg? Kennesaw Mtn? Petersburg? Or even earlier in our past Cowpens Nat'l Battlefield? You see where I'm going. If I ever win the Lottery I'm headed to Normandy, Caen, Bastogne, Guam, Guadalcanal, Tarawa, etc., etc. But my point is until we both find that pot of gold there are plenty of battlefields of the past right here in our own Nation.
The emotional impact combined with the skillful video editing truly brought to light the immense sacrifices and lives lost during that period. As a Palauan, I feel a deep connection to this story, and it serves as a powerful reminder of the human cost of war and the importance of remembering history. Thank you for creating and sharing such a poignant piece.
Wow, that’s so incredible to hear🥺! I can’t imagine the fear of that time! Meslulang for sharing your story and personal connections to Peleliu 🙇🏻 I love to hear these personal accounts
Alii from Palau! 🇵🇼 thank you for this beautiful video! Also thank you to the brave souls who fought and freed our island.
It’s like watching my grandparents terrifying stories come to life, beautiful documentary.
Wow Talo! 🥺 that gave me goosebumps! Mesulang💙
This battle is arguably considered the toughest battle ever fought by the USMC. It was overshadowed by more famous battles though.
The Unauthorized History of the Pacific War channel did a two or three part series on Peleliu. Not only was it very nasty the hosts all agreed the airfield wasn’t a threat to the upcoming invasion of Leyte and could have been neutralized without invading the island at all.
The battle was unnecessary, but the only way Admiral Nimitz and General MacArthur could agree on something. The Admiral wanted another stepping stone to Japan. The General wanted to keep his promise to the Filipinos
@@BenHopkins1000 Actually; MacArthur decided, along with FDR, to keep the ball rolling on the invasion. It had already gained too much momentum to by-pass. Every time that I go to the hall at West Point with MacArthur’s portrait, I feel the anger welling up and not just over Peleliu (and forget Inchon). ‘Dugout Doug,’ the pompous SOB. FIDO! In three of my novels, I have Marine vets who were on Peleliu, just to honor them all.
Wow! I was in tears because i recall my late grandma telling the story of how it was during the war. She lost one of her kids during that time. They were starving and afraid. 🥹I cant even begin to imagine the fear they must’ve gone through- especially caught in between two powerful countries.
Thank you for sharing this. 🙏🏽
Wow! That’s a terrifying testimony in itself! I really can’t imagine the terror of those times. Some I read stated a number of Palauans were told how monstrous the American soldiers were and some Palauans went into hiding when they saw the us soldiers.
I’m glad you enjoyed watching! 🥹 I appreciate you and your support 🫂
My father was there. white Beach. 1st Battalion, 1st Regiment (chesty Puller), 1st Division. He never talked to us kids about the war in detail. Now I know why. Thanks for the video of Peleliu today. Thanks you Marines.
Wow! Bless your father and his time on island! It was def brutal in its own right as you saw from this video! Much respect 🙏🏼
Thank you for your dad's service
I'm proud that I was with Delta company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines in Viet Nam. I didn't realize then the history of the battalion.
Based on what happened to that battalion I’m very glad you’re here! Reading a book that details the tragedy. 71% casualties…
I'll be visiting in early 2025 for some forestry work. Thanks for sharing this great footage!
My grandfather served in the U.S Navy in the Pacific theater. He never talked about it, but the ghosts haunted him until he died as an 88 yr old man. Thank you for the great videos and history lessons.
RIP
Much respect brother
I hope and pray the Palauan people don’t ever have to go through this again 😔🙏🏽🕯️
What Palauans endured is heartbreaking! And it was only a glimpse into that narrative which was difficult enough to get to understand since there’s so little documentation 😞
While my dad was fighting in Europe with Patons 3rd army his brother was killed on Peleliu , 5 brother's and a sister served during WW2 .
Wow , Sorry for your loss . I personally want to Thank your family for the freedom my family has today. 🇺🇸👏🇺🇸
@@GG-jm6kk thank you 🙏 they truly were the greatest generation
Well done, a fitting tribute to the young and brave, toughest generation ever, grew up in the depression then straight into that hell against a suicidal enemy, respect.
BRO this is so good. I am so freakin happy you used that quote from Sledges book at the end. When I was reading his book for the first time when I was 16 i had to put the book down and take some deep breathes. That quote has stuck with me my whole life and helps me be grateful for those who came before me and helped ensure I don't have to live through the horror of war. Thanks so much for this video man fr. Great job!
Love that the readings of Sledge was felt through the quote I used and of course through the project! Respect! Thank you my friend
First time I read Eugene Sledges book.
I told the library/ this should get required reading for every high schooler.
Forget about To kill a mocking bird!
As a 65 yr old all I can say is wow!!!
It's so nice to see people have left things alone, to allow the remains to be seen.
I enjoy seeing history as it is/was. Not destroyed by graffiti like it has been in parts of Europe and even America. Those Marines saw hell on Earth.
Couldn’t agree more man!
I served as a Naval Aircrewman in a P-3 squadron between 1983 - 2005 in the Pacific. I've had the opportunity to visit many sites of battle from WWII: Midway, Wake, Kwajalein, Guam, Saipai, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. I would have enjoyed a visit to Palau and Peleliu.
Awesome video! My great uncle was there with the 1st Mar Div. He was in the first waves and was fatally wounded on the 15th and shortly after was buried at sea. Got his name on the memorial in Manila. He was a replacement after Guadalcanal and was with the Old Breed until here, and had made it thru several battles and extreme hardship. So much respect for these men on both sides! I appreciate you sharing this!
My father-in-law fought there as an Army officer with the 81st Infantry Division. Thanks for sharing.
Great video, man. I love the way you present the story, the history that is, while exploring the scenes casually. Your video editing skills, sounds, movement, etc., is awesome. I learned a hole bunch and I am a Marine who thought he knew it already. Thank you.
LOVE LOVE LOVE, THANK YOU FOR SHARING
Thank you for sharing with us ❤
The Marine casually throwing the grenade into the bunker and getting his hat blown off by the concussion is a small example of the close, personal, brutal fighting on Bloody Nose Ridge. Sledge wrote that everyone became despondent as getting killed or receiving the million dollar wound were the only escapes from this tropical hell.
Just two days ago I finished Eugene Sledge's book "With the Old Breed" - so the richness and diversity of this video brought that story into clear focus for me. Thank you for making this video, and covering all of the sites that were described in his remarkable book..
thanks very much for your efforts in using videography to weave the present to the past. ❤
Was a pleasure to share and learn along the way! Thankful for your support 🙇🏻
What an awesome video! Thank you for sharing this with us!
This is awesome 🤩 great work
Appreciate the thought presented in making this vid. Unreal to think that a tiny speck of land, in the huge Pacific ocean, could be a scene of such destruction, misery and death. Time heals as well as nature, it is good seeing what this island looks like now. Thanks, good work
Great video!!!
Amazing job on this video!!! Thank you!!!
My Father in law was a medic on Peleliu the stories told me about how brutal the Japanese was , He once told me they had to paint over the red cross on the Ambulances because they would target them so the wounded would not come back to fight ,thank you for bringing his stories to life for me .
Awesome. Thank you.
Excellent video, I truly enjoyed it.
Great video. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing 👍
As a military historian this video was amazing to watch and fuels my want to travel to these places one of my Great uncles fought in the Pacific
Great job presenting this. Enjoyed
Thank you brother Rob! 🙏🏼
Fabulous video!

So well done
Excellent video!
Sulang for documenting this so well
Mesulang🫂 I appreciate you and your support in all i do🙏🏼
this channel is a gem 💎
I appreciate you 🤙🏽🫂
Came here after reading that the USMC has now returned the airfield to active usable status. Now named " Sledge Airfield " in honor of Vet and author Eugene Sledge. Great to see how things look now.
Thank you for doing this.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you.
Great job on this one 💪 I think it was a great way to show it
Thank you so this video. It explains so much.
Thank u for sharin bout this place
Thank you for watching 🙏🏼
Wow, excellent video. I'm reading "With The Old Breed" by EB Sledge again for the tenth time or so (I first read it a couple of decades ago) and I was suddenly struck with an urge to see what it looks like today. You did an excellent job in assembling and producing this video and did a service to remind us all of the people who senselessly died on those islands, which were declared unnecessary to have been taken after the war . . . basically another callous and ghastly mistake by Douglas MacArthur in his quest for personal glory. Now I don't have to get on a plane and fly 10,600 miles to get there and tour the islands, because you did it for me! Cheers
Nick
Very well said and we’ll put and I’m glad I was able to teleport you to Peleliu in this 19 minute video. Although there is truly nothing like seeing it all with your own eyes! Thank you for sharing and supporting my channel 🙏🏼🙇🏻
Well done young man. Thank you.
Much appreciated Gene🙏🏼
It was a pleasure to watch this documentary. I felt that you told Peleliu's story very well. The use of sound of video to paint a clear picture of the war was executed so well. It all felt so real. 10 out 10 documentary! I'm so proud of you! Keep up the amazing work my friend.
I’m so glad to hear it was delivered in a way to be able connect to through audio and visuals man! As said many time, i appreciate your help and support 😃🇵🇼
Outstanding job with this my friend, very well put together.....
Thank you so much for this ! So glad you enjoyed it ☺️
Good job
Excellent video, would love to visit this island someday. This place claimed 6,500 Americans and 12,000 plus Japanese.
Unfortunately two of Americas greatest young men were killed on this island, Eddy Hillbilly Jones and Andrew Haldane, both best friends and both killed within a few days of one another.
6500 US were KIA?
@@dobridjordjeno.. 1800 US KIA. 8000 wounded
@@mgway4661 I found a source that says 2,3 K US were KIA and 9000 WIA, it's all pretty close.
Thank you, this was very well done
Thanks a bunch man🤗
None of the men who came back talking about 'generational trauma' like they do today - fantastic video, bravo and EIP
Much to see.
An amazing production, by far the best WW2 video I have ever seen!
Ahh so glad to hear this man
Amazing! Was overwhelmed with nostalgia as you were riding through the island.
In a technical note, well done on the editing and narration. Love the outtakes! Great job. Sulang bro!!
So happy to bring you back to Odesangel brother! And super appreciate the love and support! Was quite the journey putting this together but was worth every day of hard work! Mesulang🫂 I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Magnificent video. Well done.
Thank you!!
Well done. Thank you.
This video is so nostalgic for me after listening to the stories of my Grandfather who fought the Japanese in the South East Pacific. I felt like I was there watching this. Thank you.
Wow! I can’t imagine the time warp this must have been! I’m so glad to hear it! I can’t imagine what he had shared with you 🙇🏻
My grandfather was a combat nurse in the Pacific, he NEVER spoke of it. I didn't learn of the extent of his service until after his death.
Call Of Duty World At War you be as a Marine fought through Peleliu to Okinawa. Such a good game.
Very well presented
Thank you!
Awesome video brother
Thank you my bro 😁
Great Video.

I want to add, your editing skills are unmatched. I absolutely love the effect you added to the historical narration. Very eerie sounding and I love it. I would absolutely love to see more videos like this. 🤙🏼
Not all have agreed but I went with a style and flow I felt best suited for the original concept ! I appreciate your support and so glad you enjoyed 🫂
Well done Mr. Perez.

I can’t get enough of it myself! Thank you brother 🙇🏻🫵🏽
Having watched The Pacific. . . A entire new appreciation. Loved the juxtaposition of your experience and the honor to the men who fought. Thank you.
Amazing Video man. It give people like me who could never get to go to these places a view from eye level.

@@aperezvoyages been watching your stuff for a long time, always enjoy the watch, there's something magical about the Pacific Islands you're visiting, thanks for taking us along with you!
@leehaslam7535 it’s the magic of the vast ocean called the pacific, and the beautiful people on those tiny islands 🥰 Just blessed to be on this journey with them
Very cool history video cant believe more people haven’t watched .
I wasn't aware of such an island. Thanks for the HBO series "The Pacific".
I have never been more jealous/impressed by the footage you’ve been so lucky to capture. You are exactly the type of traveller I want to imitate. Seeing the beaches which so many men on both sides gave their lives and their livelihoods touched me so much. This battle was a game changer in the pacific offensive. You are so unbelievably privileged. Major kudos to you. Thank you for this video.
Super blessed to have been able to make it on Peleliu brother! Thank you for the support and glad you enjoyed
Thanks for sharing. Visiting some of the island hopping campaign islands is a bucket list thing.
It’s been mine for so long! And now a work in progress! Cheers Jonathan 👊🏽
Good work m8! Enyojed watching it.
Thank you brother Macce
I'm just back from Peleliu and found your video. Excellent work, sir.
What a great piece of video storytelling and historical reference. The fluid movement between Then and Now, and the narrative that connected the periods, is powerful and riveting. Thank you for your reverent and vivid treatment of both the history and your own visit to Peleliu.
Thank you my dear friend! I really appreciate it
Great video. Your reverence for the combatants comes through in the video. Thanks for this effort
Thank you brother
