Yeh I think so, its smooth. Will check 12v feed. It goes to a relay that switches pump on and off that's noted to fail. Going to tap a feed off it and power meter separate when engine running see what happens.

@@kevballard1967 Hey Kevin, thanks for sharing mate. Sam from Australia here. My HPU pump has just stopped working. Cannot hear it whirring when I open the door and have had some issues with selecting gears and new clutch slipping etc.
Can you please advise which where this relay switch is you speak of? About to start troubleshooting this myself. Also did you get any DTC codes when this thing went faulty on you?
      Cheers mate :)

@@1samwhich Hi Sam, I never did solve it. The only codes I can remember is it had low voltage on the fuel injection pump. But ran and started like a dream. I kept getting that gearbox light flashing on dash, but nother I could find with diagnostic program. I could electronically bleed clutch and it could learn the bite of the clutch and learn the gears. All passed. But seemed to work for a few mins then I could move the van. But had enough lol. Taken fuel pump off now and fitted to a van with manual gearbox. I stll have gearbox pump off and only done 80k. Van going to be scrapped soon. If you need this pump, there rare and expensive, just pay carriage and you can have with pleasure. But see how much they are in oz.

@@kevballard1967 Hey, thanks for the offer of the free pump! I'll definitely grab it off you. Thank you!
Ahh that's a shame you never got it sorted! And a shame these gear boxes are such a bloody mystery to work on! :( To get a pump here will cost me AU$720 for a brand new one. Plus I will have a bunch of other things needing repair too so its almost getting too expensive to warrant keeping my beloved van. But getting a pump for free from you would make repairing a lot more viable!
I just did some digging around and stumbled across and old post of mine from the last time I had ASM issues back in 2013 and was conversing on the Ford Transit forums (Link below to the thread). I now think I know the relay you are taking about. It is hidden underneath the Coolant reservoir/ Windscreen Washer filler in a small fuse/relay box. (see the image down the page in that link). I remember with the drivers door open and the HPU pump whirring away, the grey relay would make a buzzing sound. I also remember another member f that forum saying that fuse was known to be problematic. So I might have a play with it tomorrow and see if it is as simple as just a knackered relay. Given my Van is at the 300 000 km mark, it's not looking promising but worth a shot!

Got to be honest to me that motor sounds like it's slightly struggling.
Anyway has anyone ever got to the bottom of the pump / relay thing? - Reason i ask is mine has started to get stuck in gear - i hit N and then D again and all is well but i'm clearly heading down the road to issues.

Nah its a mystery. I got a new van that needed the diesel pump, and the old van had only done 66k miles. But that one has packed up. The whole transit issue is ongoing. But I was able to get it through the MOT. So its sat in front of the house now. Lost heart if am honest lol.

@@kevballard1967 Seriously fella, I don't think that motor is healthy. Leccy motors can still spin and sound fine but have a damaged coil inside them (or commutator etc). Seen if a few times. For a HPU that motor is either a high torque motor (doubt it but possible) or it should be spinning a lot faster. I got a rear wiper motor that is burnt out on an old renault, still works sluggishly but it's toast - yet working. Wasn't you that just nabbed one from Uckfield was it? - i was after that!

That motor is on its way out, it is running slower than it needs to. We offer replacement motors if needed. mlreng.com/collections/ford-durashift-asm-hpu

Hi Kevin not sure if you figured out problem yet but typically bearings fail on these so at minimum I would change them. contact me if your still having trouble.
if motor ends up going out there are replacement units available,

Not the bearings, the commutator completely disintegrates inside it too and there will be plenty of black soot inside it.
