- Since Facebook announced it would be changing its name to Meta. It seems like the company is facing a new crisis every month. From being the worst-performing company in the SNP 500 to slashing 13% of its workforce. The company's recent launch of Horizon Worlds was a total disaster.
However, CEO Mark Zuckerberg is still doubling down on the idea that the Metaverse is the future of the internet.

Meta should focus on making Facebook less awful to use. It’s been over engineered into oblivion. Groups and pages are clunky and unintuitive. Marketplace is a train wreck. And every person I know over age 60 gets hacked every other week.

Hopefully VR completely goes away. There is no better reality than actual reality.
They need to design game apparatus and engaging games to make people learn and get addicted, then the idea will filter through productive uses.
Video says people texted in the '90s - not true. People had flip phones in the 90's without text. Texting didn't appear until 2004.
Meta has ended up creating a bad rep for itself. Lots of people don't trust Zuck and I don't think Meta has done a great job to address that issue at all. This is the big issue that is driving people away from Meta and anything Meta wants to do currently.

Legless cartoon style torsos doing VR meetings. When i first saw it i knew it will be a very bad joke. And now here we are. But wireless light-weigth AR glasses will be gamechanger!
Apple did this while at the same time not protecting users privacy and even going as far as wanting to scan their photo libraries.
Facebook, or Meta, is worse but they’re both bad.

Sony will release its PlayStation VR2 soon and it should cause a serious spike in VR acceptance. Yet it doesn't directly interface with Meta, and Apple will likely put another thumb in the eye of Zuck with their own take on a virtual social and business platform, albeit a very expensive one.

No technology will succeed among casuals if people have to wear a peripheral to use it.
Look at 3D TVs, VR, Googleglass, etc.
Humans simply don't like to WEAR their technology.
We're like cats being forced to wear Christmas sweaters. We hate it.
That's sorta what Apple hopes to address with its AR glasses: A much lighter, more adaptive device.

Metaverse applied to work is surveillance capitalism at the service of employers. Obviously, ordinary people don't want to use a gadget that causes nausea to be better controlled in the home office. And Zickeberg's metaverse is pathetic precisely because he wants to recreate a dystopian environment, which is the workplace, in the virtual world, while people use games to escape into meaningful lives. Obviously this crap could not have the same appeal as games and it will only get somewhere if bosses start forcing employees to use it, as Zuckeberg himself did, but as this technology has a cost and they will not want to pay for the equipment for employees, it won't work either.
I can't believe anyone actually thought this was a good idea, billions spent for VR chat.
So the idea was adults would look like virtual pre-teens....which makes doing adult stuff and adult phases seem creepy.
Chinese companies like Xiaomi and Huawei have better versions their glasses are small like normal glasses and they enhance the world like showing you the price of an item your looking at, translating text that your looking at, showing directions etc all while staying in a nice small form factor that’s why they are wining in that industry they excel where Facebook and google have failed
To sum it up...no thanks, more widgets to deal with. More money to spend, more pravicy issues...more wasted time on crap that I don't need or care for and Meta is really trying hard to indoctrinate us into thinking that this is what we need..nope.

There is no real progress in VR. I’ve been watching it closely. The software development isn’t there.
It is like being in a cartoon. A screen will do the same thing. There is no real interaction in VR.
VR is good for simulations… not socializing.

If Meta is still around in 2025 it’ll be a junk company no one wants..
Main issue is apple is sensible and cool, meta verse seems a nerds wet dream uncool, awkward and you need 2 pound brick attached to your face to traverse it. Smart phones were responsible for growth of social media, but they were cool, and made it easier to access. Unless there is a break through in VR technology hardware, making it cool, cheap easier to access I don't see any future in it.
Enter Apple's AR glasses. But cheaper--? Um, No.
It's too bad this isn't working. Us poor folks need a virtual vacation space 😆 🤣 😂
You know why Meta is bottoming out, Right? Because NOBODY CAN AFFORD THE HARDWARE TO USE IT!!! So Stupid! Until you can manufacture cheap, reliable VR Hardware, it will not change!!!
