I can name everyone on stage in this video: 1. Shane MacGowan on lead vocal. 2. Phil Chevron on guitar. 3. Jem Finer on banjo. 4. Cait O'Riordan on bass. 5. Terry Woods on octave mandolin. 6. Andrew Ranken on drum kit. 7. Spider Stacy on tin whistle. 8. James Fearnley on accordion.
MacGowan spent his early childhood in County Tipperary, Ireland before his family moved back to England when he was six and a half. He lived in many parts of the south-east, including Brighton and London.source: Wikipedia but easily found elsewhere online and off
@dubconor He told the BBC that he didn't like his partials because they made him look "daft." But the reunion tour was partially to sponser his having them fitted.
I love his music and thats all that matters to me :) In defence of 3spider though there is certainly nothing wrong with having Irish heritage (my dad was Irish) but that does not mean you should fall into the trap of disrespecting that heritage by positively supporting Irish stereotypes like constantly being drunk. Nor does it mean you should deny the other part of who you are which is English because you hate or mistrust a nation for things done many years ago. But the music is awesome! :)
he IS Irish. His parents went to England and his Mom gave birth to him there. Lived in Ireland until he was something like 6, moved to England and moved back to Ireland when he was older. Tipperary. And further more, who the hell cares? His music is uh-maze-ing. The Pogues were never the same without him.
@AMoldyPeach That's right, his father worked away, so he had to go to London when he was young, and lived there for a few years. If you're born from Irish parents and were yourself born in Ireland, I'd say that makes you Irish! I went to Poland once for a trip, I don't think that makes me Polish.
Hey anyone know of any other folk/punk hybrid groups, the opener (can't remember the name)on Rum Sodomy and the Lash fires me up nice, I don't like the levellers, don't do crusties and theres no punk in them anyway
@Soundgardener80 ....or 2000 for that matter...being a welshy I cant handle my drink but I fucking swear to the big guy up there that you lot are the only people who should be going anywhere near that shit
Hello Yankerman. Probably more Anglo-Irish as he has Irish roots. He is more Irish than Tony Cascerino. Lets call him a European ! We are all happy Europeans living together in the EU..........arf
He was born in england, to Irish parents (making him fully blooded Irish) lived in Tipperary till he was 6, claimed he always felt more Irish than english, played Irish folk music all throughout his carrer and he currently lives in Dublin. In my book Shane is as Irish as they come
Shane will influence generations, the poetry, the musical legacy
Amazing band , amazing musicians, amazing song .
If he knew 1% of the love people had for him, he'd know he was one of the most loved people ever.
I hope Shane is where streams of whiskey are flowing. 💔
this is the classic lineup. 1986 all the way. Cait O Riordan rocks.
She was the bassist for the Pogues until she married Elvis Costello.

@@marvinthemaniac7698 So sad that Phil passed Away. Are the others all still about ?
@@skylarkman2000 yes they are. Everyone except for Phil is still with us.
@@marvinthemaniac7698 Very surprised that Shane is Marvin !
Best band ever

I wonder if this is where the inspiration for Flogging Molly's "Tobacco Island" came from. The tune is pretty similar
glad i'm not the only one who hears it! i always mix the two up singing along
Haha! Everything from Flogging Molly was “inspired” by the Pogues.
brilliant!
Klasse !
@dubconor

Shane is not English. What exactly is it about his music and persona that you don't get?

He got kicked out of his own band in 1991 for being too drunk to perform most of the time.
classic

Isn't it sad to see how quickly he destroyed himself, within a few years of this he was fucked from all the drink and drugs
He was kicked out of his own band in 1991 for allowing his alcoholism to interfere with band activities.
