I honestly love low volume fabrics but didn't even realize they were low volume....ha! A scrappy low volume quilt would be an awesome project to see!!!!
I just discovered your channel and I love your funny and bubbly personality! You are fun and easy to watch, you’re totally relatable and I love your tutorials - they are very well explained. Thanks for your scrap-inspiration today, it’s just the kick in the butt I need to tackle my scraps. I would love a tutorial on a crumb quilt.
Hello, I would like to see you make a string quilt with lots of different colours please. I am really enjoying your channel, I only found it 2 weeks ago. Thanks for all the great scrap management ideas. I have a few tubs to get organized.
I love your video about scrap management so much that I just spent about three days organizing my scraps similar to the way you did! It opened up so many possibilities! I tend to look first at the size and love precuts, so when I organized I did so by size, making as many precuts as I could. I finished my organization today! Thank you so much for your inspiration! I love your channel!
I am a real newbie to quilting. I took an early retirement last year and want to return to the little bit of quilting I did 25 years ago. Then I lived in a small community where a dear lady who used to win the blue ribbon for quilting introduced me to it. Thanks for the ideas on organizing scraps. I will start to implement it.
I'm so glad to have found your UA-cam channel! I love what you do and you are inspiring!! This one even makes me want to organize my scraps and fabrics. I'm relatively new and this will be so helpful before I am overwhelmed by scraps. I already am with organizing my purchased fabrics and precuts.
Hello! Just found you and watched your scrap cutting video, then saw this one pop up. Excellent information & very helpful! I'm a new quilter & just beginning to run into scrap management issues. It's great to learn how to cut & sort from the start, more scrap management tips, please! Thank for putting this video together. I'd love to see a scrappy rainbow color wash quilt!
I don’t have that many scraps but I love English paper piecing and recently bought an accuquilt with EPP dies that cut 1 inch pieces so I will save my scraps for that!
I've just today discovered your great tutorials and intend to binge on them for the rest of the day. I would like to see what you come up with on a low volume colour quilt.
Lol. I’m always brutal with scraps. My poor cutting table basket is JAMMED right now. I really need to sit down and cut it all up! I usually do it once a month but haven’t had the time lately with my kids home every day!
I have a similar method about scraps: boxes, ziplock bags, glass bins divided by color, dimension, shape, print. But I am not entirely satisfied. Some boxes are still mixed... like your stash bin in the other video. Always thought about preparing them in precuts like you do but never really tried. Your organizing method are really inspiring! I am new to your channel but so far I really like your videos. Thank you! 💗💗💗
thanks for all the info. I do a lot of Quilts of Valor quilts so most of my scraps are red, white, or blue. they are in prints and solids. right now I am working on my 'crumb' blues making them into 5 inch squares. I found out I have a LOT of blues so all these will be bordered with a 1.5 inch white with red cornerstones. can't wait to see how it turns out. have been working on these for about a month now. thanks for all the helpful videos.
I love seeing how everyone organizes their scraps. Your rainbow order is beautiful on your carts. I mostly cut strings of various widths. When I’m trimming scraps I also like to cut out a couple Dresden blades and hexies. If I can I sometimes cut enough hexies for a flower but scrappy flowers are fun too. I’ve tried the ziploc baggie storage system and It does not work for me. I like to dig through my scraps and grab what calls my name. With the bags I end up with a huge mess that then needs to be cleaned up. Cleaning is not much fun. I’ve been using the colorful plastic shoe boxes from the Dollar Tree and it’s been working really well for me. If I make a mess It stays contained in the bin but it’s also quick and easy to clean up when I’m done. I would love to see a low volume crumb project with splashes of color but anything scrappy would be fun to watch.
I’ve started so many epp flower/other shape quilts and never make it very far! I just don’t have the patience for a long term project like that as much as I love the look.
Hi there I just discovered this channel, I’m making a string quilt, it’s hard to imagine how many quilts you can make without really making a dent in your scrap collection.
I cut into standard sizes that I have patterns for. Then I have a bin of small pieces - generally less than 2" wide. I see the small pieces together to get a 10 inch square. I pair that with a white 10 inch square and make 4 half square triangles. I make Chevron quilts with the half square triangles.
I would like to see you do a wonky log cabin square to show me how to do it. I've seen some other videos but I really like the way that you teach thank you very much for your videos 🙂🌺
I have all my scraps in bags to I’m going to start making out of them to donate. I’m new to your channel God bless you and your family I just started a channel
I would love to see pictures of the scrap quilts you already finished. I would love to make one but there are too many projects to choose from, I cannot decide.
I love scrap quilting. I would say, everything would decide would depend on the availability of sewing time. The layer cake fabric would be a speedy project. As you go smaller fabric more time will be needed to complete the project. I am for a strip quilt project because I have such a quilt on "round to it list".
"I know you have them, too. You cannot hide them from me!" LOL -- Would love to see a low volume crumb or string quilt with pops of color. Also, low volume fabrics are something I don't seem to have much of in my stash. Any tips on what to consider when adding low volume to your stash? Do you try to just stick with W.O.W. or ivory or light prints or . . .?
I can't wait to do another string quilt!! and I really need to tackle those low volumes again! As for shopping, I wish I had great advice--I have a lot of low volumes I don't even know how to use since I just buy things I like without thinking! I do try to stick to white whites or gray whites instead of creams but theres always a few that sneak it anyway. I do tend to use a lot of text prints, so I'm always on the lookout for those!
oh my, is that a stash of yarn on your shelves ?? talk about it soon. would love to see more of that. it seems like crafters have multiple things we like to do. While i too have a yarn stash, i have begun quilting now that i am retired and am addicted to buying fabric and dreaming of finished projects. thanks for the great ideas and great directions for project.
Yes! I used to be primarily a knitter before I started quilting. I do some spinning as well :). I agree, most crafters seems to do many things-especially with quilting since it isn’t the most portable hobby ever :)
Low volume is style of fabric. It’s usually a white or cream fabric with a small print on it. Here are some google image results that are probably better than my poor explanation! www.google.com/search?q=low+volume+quilt&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS787US787&hl=en-US&prmd=sivn&sxsrf=ALeKk01xvOEpNVytTFbx-QSGE7X1Zfpsgg:1595009624258&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjOvMTw8dTqAhUQP60KHYgqBu8Q_AUoAnoECA0QAg&biw=414&bih=622
I've only worked with scraps (haven't made a quilt yet, just done lots of pieced projects) and I'd love to see what you do with crumbs, though I think they can be mixed with strings and other pieces. I love saturated colors, and I do not love rainbows. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos -- this was my first.
Welcome!! I have done a few more scrap videos since this one--there is a whole playlist of my scrappy quilt projects here and I have lots more planned!: ua-cam.com/play/PLEivWFjX-fGrsQw5Ka1jQluyZceUmjZdK.html
Im watching this video 3 years after posting, but I’d love to see you make a black and white (black/grey and low volume) quilt project. Your color choices are super vibrant and happy, but perhaps something that you don’t normally gravitate towards/challenging?
You could use rainbow brights with the low volume ones, make scrappy blocks of each genre. Crumb, string and squares, you may be inspired to make up a new pattern to combine them all. You could use mono coloured bits or rainbow strings to make fabric storage baskets if you'd like to store similar colour pieces in them. You could set your layer cake squares on their side as well, making colour selection a bit easier, if you have a slightly taller basket to hold them upright. Lunch bags, pencil cases, cute hand or tote bags, Popcorn or potato microwave bags can be great, but you may get lots of people wanting one. Bowl cosies are good to use up bits, and do work for ice-cream as well as hot stuff, no metal or metallic in batting etc if going in the microwave. Could you use bright strings to make multi-colour strips for sashing? I like the idea of using scraps to make sample blocks, so I can decide if I like how they look and doing them or not. You'll have so much fun, all the best.
I am not good at the really free form crumb quilting - right now I start with a long strip and sew other scraps to it and kind of go from there with a log cabin type of quarter turn. I am never particularly pleased with the results. My fabrics are a little older and have a ton of men's shirting scraps so they are not bright and colorful. I am thinking of color picking a little before I start sewing next time. Not everything has to be bright but maybe if I like the fabrics together to begin with I will be more pleased with the results. I would be very pleased to see a crumb quilting video. Thank you.
Michaels has a cart similar to the Ikea cart, dimensions are very close. I have the largest IKEA Kallax in a large closet. The cubes are larger than other storage cubes which is nice.
Any type or color would be great but I'd love some ideas for what to do with the layer cake squares. I'm trying to cut up my excess yardage into usable sizes and need to branch out beyond making jelly rolls.
I would love to see you to make a strings quilt from low volume strings. It could be any color, but a single color and volume. Not just all pinks but all hot pinks. A low volume with all whites with light minimal prints. I’ve wanted to do a quilt like this myself, but can’t get excited over a pattern. It would be awesome if you could give me some ideas
I think low volume plus a rainbow would be wonderful. Maybe diagonal string blocks with a color on one side and low volume on the other. So many lay-out possibilities. (New subscriber here!)
Welcome! That would be a lot of fun! I agree on the layouts--those little diagonal string blocks are so fun and quick to make and you can do so much with them.
Hi! I’ve only been quilting since quarantine so I don’t have a lot of “scraps”. I have enough to where I need to start creating an organized system. I love your videos and these organization videos are just great. I do have a question… is the smallest piece you cut a 5x5 share, or so you also cut up smaller than that? Thanks again. I’m a big fan of your work. ❤️
Just seen your video and was wondering what.you class fit as "low volume" scraps...mine is in zip lock bags and empty clean coffee cans I have labeled.oh and I subscribed and I enjoyed this video..have a great evening .
I thought my one scrap bin was too many scraps. I try to keep the amount I have on hand contained to this one large bin by making 4-5 scrap quilts every year.
Be sure to tell me what kind of scrap quilt pattern you'd like to see! I'm excited to dig into the piles of tiny pieces!
Tiny Orchard Quilts I would like to see a string scrap quilt thank you God bless you and your family
I dare you! Gradient Rainbow-color 'franken' Crazy Quilt using blocks with all 4 sizes (cakes, charms, strips, crumbs)! Love your rainbows.
Log cabin, please.
I honestly love low volume fabrics but didn't even realize they were low volume....ha! A scrappy low volume quilt would be an awesome project to see!!!!
How about a Temperature Quilt?
Missing you! Spring will be here before you know it…everything is so much better in Spring!!!
Great advice for easy storage. Glad you touched on having scraps ready to use. I’m so much more productive using this advice. Thank you!
I just discovered your channel and I love your funny and bubbly personality! You are fun and easy to watch, you’re totally relatable and I love your tutorials - they are very well explained. Crumb quilts, i love the purple colors.

I love your channel!
Yay!! I hope there are many scrap quilts in your future!!
Definitely a crumb quilt. Rainbow in color. Hello from NJ.
Crumb quilt I have never seen. That's my vote 😉
A colorful string quilt would be fun! I’m super interested in how you’d use your crumbs for a project as well!
Second time watching this. Still great and always a good reminder.
I’d love to see anything you make with scraps but a layer cake one would be good. Love watching you, thanks for your videos.
Layer cakes are such useful precut sizes! I'll definitely add that to my list of quilts to make :)
Thanks for this video! Love it. I’ve spent the first days of this new year sorting scraps using your advice. Thank you!
Welcome! How nice to have a mentor like that to help you get back into quilting :)
Would love a layer-cake friendly quilt! And impressive organization!! 🧵❤️
Love your videos! So inspirational. I have NOT been saving my scraps, but I’m going to start now!
I love purple green yellow and black and white. Using crumbs or strips.
Really loved your video about how to organize scraps it was very helpful Thank you so much. ❤

Very helpful and interesting! Thank you.
Amazing ideas 🙏
Crumb quilt please. The ones I’ve done are totally chaotic so some kind of color scheme would be nice!
Really enjoy watching your videos. I recently made a crumb quilt. It was so much fun. I would like to see you make a string quilt.
The Ikea bags are awesome! Thank you for sharing your ideas. I’m doing mine now using your ideas. 😁
Great tutorial!
I’m so glad I found your channel!
Me too!! I hope you enjoy it :)
Fantastic!!
QASG string quilt, solid, bright rainbow quilt. Thanks fo your tutorial!
Crumb quilt. Any and all colors!

I did it!!!!! I'm so happy to have my scraps organized. And I was brutal with fat quarters. Lol

Welcome! And yay for a new channel! Its been a really fun journey so far!
Tiny Orchard Quilts Thank you 🙏 I’m trying I enjoy doing the channel
I would like yo see a low volume colored quilt. You may choose to add some color as well. But I would be curious to how you use the scraps.
How do you store your big rolls of batting, and your batting scraps?
Love your videos. What do. you mean by low-volume?
I would love to see pictures of the scrap quilts you already finished. I would love to make one but there are too many projects to choose from, I cannot decide.

Are they true crumbs if they’re planned by color? I love the mad crazy colors you get when it’s totally random.
I would love to see a low volume crumb quilt ♥️ by the way I love your hair like this
"I know you have them, too. You cannot hide them from me!" LOL -- Would love to see a low volume crumb or string quilt with pops of color. Please do a scrappy crumb quilt. I am also interested in how to do a total low volume quilt. Thanks for your great videos!
Im watching this video 3 years after posting, but I’d love to see you make a black and white (black/grey and low volume) quilt project. Your color choices are super vibrant and happy, but perhaps something that you don’t normally gravitate towards/challenging?
How about a string quilt with a same- color crumb-quilt pillow?
I’d love to see baby quilts using any size of your scraps.
I would like to see a project with your 5” scraps. 😊
What is the smallest piece you keep?
I loved your blueberry crumble quilt. I’d like to see you make a crumb quilt in purple or mustard yellow/gold.
I keep anything over about an inch. :) mustard is definitely a favorite of mine!!
I would like to see what you could make with the charms.
I’d like you to make a small Crumb quilt tutorial. ❤️
You could use rainbow brights with the low volume ones, make scrappy blocks of each genre. Crumb, string and squares, you may be inspired to make up a new pattern to combine them all. New to your channel...awesome ideas
I want to make a scrappy string hot pad or pot holder that includes selvage edges.
Hey beautiful. I would like to see what you make from crumbs. I have a bunch left over from making masks and need ideas. Thanks for sharing! ❤️
Can you please show what these scrap quilts are. Crumb, etc
I am not good at the really free form crumb quilting - right now I start with a long strip and sew other scraps to it and kind of go from there with a log cabin type of quarter turn. Improv scrappy quilts are my favorite. Less cutting and planning with more ah ha! moments as the random magic shows itself.
Hello, I love your videos. Please make a crumb quilt, I'm not sure how to make one.
Any type or color would be great but I'd love some ideas for what to do with the layer cake squares. I'm trying to cut up my excess yardage into usable sizes and need to branch out beyond making jelly rolls.
Layer cake squares are some of my favorite precuts! Ill definitely work on something for you!
I like how you organize. Please show an example of what you have made with scraps in the past so we can be more willing to follow your example.
I would love to see a aqua crumb please
As a new quilter, what is low volume scraps? They appear to me to be very high volume! 😂
Thanks for the definition! Enjoy your videos!
Can you please send the link to scrap management.
I’d love to try a scrappy Boston Commons quilt
I need to go look that up!!
I suggest using your pink 10” shares to make a large quilt - very scrappy
What is a pattern for crumbs?
Crumb quilt!!!
i would love to see your crumb quilt.
I have a lot of 4 inches, charm pack and layer cakes, all different colour but don’t know what to do with them!! If you have an idea, I will be happy.
Megan you are so adorable and I really miss hearing from you. I hope all is well with you and your family.
Hi! I’ve only been quilting since quarantine so I don’t have a lot of “scraps”. I have enough to where I need to start creating an organized system. Would like a layer cake scrappy.
Just seen your video and was wondering what.you class fit as "low volume" scraps...mine is in zip lock bags and empty clean coffee cans I have labeled.oh and I subscribed and I enjoyed this video..have a great evening .
I'm glad you liked it! Honestly, I keep anything that has a white background in the low volume bag. I separate out solids but thats about it!
What is a low volume?
I thought my one scrap bin was too many scraps. I try to keep the amount I have on hand contained to this one large bin by making 4-5 scrap quilts every year.
