But as I said before, its the potential that makes this camera great, and the optics themselves do shine in superior auto, maybe not as good as the iPhone's but still great, but once you bring in all the other stuff like shooting modes and manual controls(which do matter your just being stupid, so you want it to be less convenient and carry 2 things?) we have a winner.

And quite surprisingly Sony allows the user to uninstall most of the Bloat, leaving only a few key apps left over. Not sure why most reviews refer to Sony's UI as heavy or bloated. It is the closest experience to Vanilla Android.

If the lock screen bothers you, get Dashclock. You can add it as a widget to your lock screen and make it the main one. All the info you want displayed.

I'd been with HTC for 4 years with the Desire and the One X+ and was heavily considering an OS change to an iPhone 5S and then somebody told me about this phone. I then realised that going to the dark side would be silly. I'm definitely picking one of these up but I'm gonna wait for the Z4 to come out, see how the prices go down for the Z3.
For me the Galaxy K Zoom has the best camera experience on an Android phone atm. In addition to also having a 20 Mpx 1/2.3 sensor, it has OIS, more manual control(shutter speed, aperture), 10x optical zoom and a proper Xenon flash...And the replaceable battery isn't a bad thing either :) Only thing it doesn't have is 4K video, but I wouldn't use it anyway even if had it. I know many won't agree with me, but as an amateur photographer these are some big advantages for me over the Z3 :)
Well, The K is more of a niche product. It's not a phone with a camera lens stuck to it, it's a camera with calling capabilities and Android installed on it.

just bought it upgrading from a z1. In terms of specs, there is not a whole lot of difference, but, it is much easier to hold, and less likely to fall down. Lighter in your pocket too. but; it does not have the same quality feel of the Z1, with its thick metal and glass
hi anton... i've been testing out the z3's 20.7mp camera option... i found a noticeable lag after each photo... this lag is non existent in the 8mp camera setting, if im not mistaken... did you find the same problem during your review? and it really puzzles me that sony did not make the 20.7mp camera option a full fledged camera function... this is really annoying... and i would be happy to see a review between the Z3 and the LG G3... cheers
TheSkridownTutorials while comparison, you can't stick with one OS and common everyone is not a pro to use manual mode. Most of the people use automatic. And by most I mean 92% of smartphone users.

This actually looks like a good alternative to the Galaxy S5. I know this will sound really dumb but for a long time I kept getting the Sony Xperia line and the Nokia Lumia line mixed up and thought they were both Microsoft devices so never looked into them until just now XD
Is this Xperia going to suffer from a *self-cracking screen like the Z1 & Z2?* The issue was so bad it actually featured twice on UK consumer awareness programs like Watchdog because Sony refused to replace them. I would have hoped this issue would have been dealt with, but then you'd have said the same from the Z1 to the Z2.
Don't know what you're talking about with the z2? Thing is incredibly tough for a glass phone. I believe it was one of the only phones to survive a drop test out of the flagships last year. I own the z2 and have dropped it plenty of times on concrete with no cases. Lots of minor dents and nicks around the corners but the glass paneling is crack and scratch free on both sides.
I have a friend. With butter fingers. And a Z2. If that phone can survive on his hands without a case for more than three months, which it did, I absolutely salute Sony.
Every time I hear a self cracking story its always the same BS excuse..."I dropped it 30 cm onto carpet and it shattered!" It's such a crock of shit. Clumsy people break their stuff and then try to blame others.
It's so sad how Sony is losing money in its phone division... Sony makes pretty good phones, and I actually like the Z3 a lot. I'd take this over any IPhone 6+. I think that Sony is as good as some other smartphone giants, such as HTC, Samsung, LG, and Apple.

To be honest, a huge design overhaul for flagship phones are rarely seen nowadays. And most brands just add a few tweaks, maybe change the material for the back or the screen. So I don't get why reviews always make it sound like Sony is the only one doing it.
I have ALWAYS wanted a Sony phone, but every time I want to buy one and I get scared beforehand. When I check XDA for users feedback and see things like self crackling issue (how on earth is that even possible?), camera hazing issue, worse camera quality if bootloader is unlocked, these all sound crazy to me. Also if I have seen the reviews right then their display is average at best! According to GSMArena reviews call quality is never excellent with Sony phones (except ZL), the stereo speakers are not loud enough to match hTC's BoomSound (I don't care about this though, just saying, its a flagship phone after all) and last but not the least the camera software post processing isn't great either. The only thing I like is their UI, it doesn't seem as heavy as TouchWiz (nothing can beat TW heaviness actually), but even there people have complained that it slows down after a while and by recording 4K videos the camera exits automatically, and by playing games the phone gets heated up heavily! I don't know what's the problem with Sony. They are the king of displays, make brilliant televisions, and on phone displays it is like that! OK! They are fantastic in camera lineup too, nothing can beat NEX series, and look here, Sony phones camera should thump over those Samsungs and others, but not! Why are they this arrogant? Back in 2004 and up to until 2008-2009 the only phones I considered was Sony Ericsson ones (God knows how many I had!) and now look! Damn you, Sony.
I've seen an Xperia Z and played around on an Xperia Z1 and both are great, great smartphones. There are just as many complaints or minor issues when comparing a Sony device with any of the other flagship manufactures (Samsung, HTC, etc). I just bought my first Sony phone four or five months ago, which was the Sony Xperia Z2. Most of the issues you listed like over heating problems have been fixed with a simple OTA software update. I have owned many Samsung devices in the past, with the most recent being the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I have not once regret making the switch from Samsung to Sony. I now recommend Sony Xperia devices to just about anyone inquiring about new Android smartphones. I just recently got my girlfriend to make the switch to a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact from her crappy Samsung S5. Just the smaller size of the device alone was a win for her. She was never once happy using her S5 because all it did was continue having issues. Issues such as the USB port burning out, the phone randomly freezing while going haywire/crazy, and the charge port plug that keeps it Waterproof cracked right in half. She exchanged her S5 through the warranty service roughly 4 times now. It currently sits here on her desk, waiting to be sent back to Samsung to be fixed once again.

Also I have seen on XDA that people are reporting awful voice call quality on their Z2s. Who likes to stay on Samsung anyway? You.forget to mention dead pixel issue. I got my z3 1week from now and the screen looks like it has nebula on it because of the dead pixel. I dont know if i can still replace it...
I often wonder why so many complain about battery life on phones. Yet Sony has a phone that can last a few days on a single charge. Why is it not as popular as Samsung? I really hope the Z5 comes to Canada. I want to upgrade from my Nexus 5 to the Z5.

how about the overheating issue on Z3 ??? the only problem Z2 got is the camera repeatedly close when the temperature is considered too high especially when you recording or take some photo outside, and not last when you recording in 4K mode the temperature increase more faster
traded z2 in for this...only had to pay extra 40 bucks which imo is a good deal. dont see many difference between the 2 save for the slimer design and better brightness. everything else is the same. i miss the sony Toggle widget :( dunno y they didnt add those to z3 when they are there on z2.
Good review but I noticed comments about the sonys camera being close to the note 4.....not a slight chance I have the note 4 and seen the comparison the note 4 blows it completely out of the water. I am switching to the z3 because I switch phones alot I get bored but the note 4 is a beast in all aspects but living in Florida I want water proof and a different ui experience
I have the z3 compact , you cannot get a decent shot in indoor low light situation , such as at a bar or resturant ,while all my friends cameras were fine .
Just sent my T-Mobile z3 to Sony to repair cracked front glass (self). Phoneless for 2 weeks now, should've gotten iPhone 6 or note 4. Is a nice phone but once it cracks the whole touchscreen is unusable.
I want to get this now. It's just as good as the S6 (minus the quad hd - overkill anyway). It's also reasonably priced. Way to go in my opinion if you are looking to upgrade. Iphone 6 and Galaxy S6 are too expensive.

Note really worth the upgrade. Especially taking in the bad trade in value of the Xperia Z2. Better off the wait for the Xperia Z4 I'm surprised Sony gave the ol' battery suffers excuse for not going with a better 2K screen and a better processor (aka 805) . This will surely hinder their sales again especially in North America

yes 4G is 4G it should work (if you need a phone now get this one, if you could wait for begin 2015 buy a Sony Xperia Z3X (beast of a phone 5,5'' best specs ever 24,7megapixel cam.)

Tbh I hate the glass finish on xperia :/ I'd rather prefer Xperia M2 Aqua with a matte finish on the back, but don't get me wrong tho this phone is a beast
T mobile has the least bloat by far....in fact i believe there was a study that showed that tmobile phones hold better battery time than the other carriers
Considering price.....the note 4 being 150$ more than the z3......i think the z3 is better option. If money doesn't matter much to you then i would pick up the note 4 as the redesign is fantastic and the screen is even better this time around..Also if you do care about the price i think the onepluz and upcoming nexus are good phones to look into as well
hey i got the z3 model d6653, i do not get many hours on stamina mode,does it have something to do with the lolipop update? on 65% on stamina mode i get about 12hours, normally is should be a day plus a few hours, i hope its not my phone thats going bad, just asking if any of you have any feedbacks or know something or something abiut my settings, i dont know.. thanks

Just sent my T-Mobile z3 back for repairs, front glass self cracked rendering the touchscreen useless after 36 hours of use. Should've gotten iPhone 6 or note 4. Nice phone when it doesn't crack, if it does then good luck to you since I've been phone less for 3 weeks now, with no guarantees of repair or refund just inspection as of now.

RikkiDalm No HTC has a much lighter and snappier skin. Used both the z3 and m8. Htc just has a best skin.

You.forget to mention dead pixel issue. I got my z3 1week from now and the screen looks like it has nebula on it because of the dead pixel. I dont know if i can still replace it...
I often wonder why so many complain about battery life on phones. Yet Sony has a phone that can last a few days on a single charge. Why is it not as popular as Samsung? I really hope the Z5 comes to Canada. I want to upgrade from my Nexus 5 to the Z5.

how about the overheating issue on Z3 ??? the only problem Z2 got is the camera repeatedly close when the temperature is considered too high especially when you recording or take some photo outside, and not last when you recording in 4K mode the temperature increase more faster
traded z2 in for this...only had to pay extra 40 bucks which imo is a good deal.
dont see many difference between the 2 save for the slimer design and better brightness.
everything else is the same.
i miss the sony Toggle widget :( dunno y they didnt add those to z3 when they are there on z2.

Good review but I noticed comments about the sonys camera being close to the note 4.....not a slight chance I have the note 4 and seen the comparison the note 4 blows it completely out of the water. I am switching to the z3 because I switch phones alot I get bored but the note 4 is a beast in all aspects but living in Florida I want water proof and a different ui experience

I have the z3 compact , you cannot get a decent shot in indoor low light situation , such as at a bar or resturant ,while all my friends cameras were fine .

Just sent my T-Mobile z3 to Sony to repair cracked front glass (self). Phoneless for 2 weeks now, should've gotten iPhone 6 or note 4. Is a nice phone but once it cracks the whole touchscreen is unusable.
I want to get this now.
It's just as good as the S6 (minus the quad hd - overkill anyway).
It's also reasonably priced. Way to go in my opinion if you are looking to upgrade.
Iphone 6 and Galaxy S6 are too expensive.

T mobile has the least bloat by far....in fact i believe there was a study that showed that tmobile phones hold better battery time than the other carriers
Yep, it's true. Now I'm perplexed on whether to procure the Note 4 or the Z3. Man this is tough.
Considering price.....the note 4 being 150$ more than the z3......i think the z3 is better option. If money doesn't matter much to you then i would pick up the note 4 as the redesign is fantastic and the screen is even better this time around..Also if you do care about the price i think the onepluz and upcoming nexus are good phones to look into as well
hey i got the z3 model d6653, i do not get many hours on stamina mode,does it have something to do with the lolipop update? on 65% on stamina mode i get about 12hours, normally is should be a day plus a few hours, i hope its not my phone thats going bad, just asking if any of you have any feedbacks or know something or something abiut my settings, i dont know.. thanks

Just sent my T-Mobile z3 back for repairs, front glass self cracked rendering the touchscreen useless after 36 hours of use. Should've gotten iPhone 6 or note 4. Nice phone when it doesn't crack, if it does then good luck to you since I've been phone less for 3 weeks now, with no guarantees of repair or refund just inspection as of now.
