I could see difference in the brightness for sure may consider that upgrade, I am running stock lightbulb with 2 light pod on the luggage bars pointing down in front of me and that makes a world of difference and it does not blind the oncoming traffic either.
I just bought a 2022 Himalayan in the US. For the last two years of been puttering around town on an lml star. Genuine Stella here in the states. After riding that thing at night, I'm living the dream with just the stock light at the moment. 😅 Good to know there is an inexpensive upgrade though.
5:08 Sure there's a noticiable difference. I am using Phillips Extreme Vision or Osram Nightbreaker lineup for years in my lasts cars. Thank you for making this video as weel. Nice update.
I am learning so much from your channel, really excellent content, upgrade looks good and ordered through your link, another job for the weekend, cheers Wee Jaunt

Yeh Iv been looking at Aux lights. The bulb upgrade is a good solution but a pain if it fuses when you are out. Aux lights can be s lifesaver to get you home eh.
Hey thanks for the video, its very helpful. I just got my Himalayan less than a month brand new, but I noticed that the light wasn't good for what you would expect in 2021. The high beam light was pointing to the top of the trees lol. I did I adjusted the level but then the low beam light feels too low so I am still in the process of finding the right spot. I also did bought a LED head light from amazon to install it but I am afraid that by doing so it may break the guaranty of the bike, so your video showed me a new alternative which I will try. Thanks once again for the video, I really enjoy the content you share with us. Saludos! From California
Thank you I really appreciate the feedback 👍 I guess if you had an issue with the bike you could you could swap the old headlight back in. Yep I had all this issues you describe with the beam. Whatever you decide to do I hope it works out for you. The silver is a little brighter so I guess the osram laser will be brighter still. Thanks for watching I really appreciate it 👍
Any bulb can go at any time, replacing them is nothing to do with the warranty Go into a garage and use their beam setter to adjust the height and 'aiming point' of the lights, To some extent it can depend on the load you might be carryoing which could possibly affect the setting of your suspwnsion and from that, move the light setting
How is your reflector assembly after the bulb upgrade? I've used similar high wattage bulb on my Enfield and my reflector assembly began to loose its reflecting coat due to the heat generated by the bulb. Since then, I am using a philips LED bulb with a new headlight sealed beam. I like the performance of the LED, but I always prefer the color temperature of the good old halogen bulbs.
So far iv had no issues with it. I upgraded the bulb almost a year ago now. I live in a folder climate in Scotland so I don't know if that makes a difference.
Very helpful video. I m still thinking about changig my headlight. Mostly I dont ride in the night (or the dark at all), but as a safety add-on it would maybe allow it (a little bit more). 👍
You can install a pair of auxiliary 'driving lights as well as the higher wattage H4 halogen in your headlight. I used to fo a lot of night driving and had 100watt halogen as well as a pair of Bosch driving lights.
Much of my motorcycling was in UK in the 1950s when I rode an Ariel 650cc after upgrading from a 250 to 350 and then the 650cc There were no motorways, the 'A' roads were busy so I rode mostly 'B' roads to avoid the traffic and managed a reasonably fast 'point to point' average. I lived in Nottingham and had friends in Dover, 200 miles south who I visited farly regularly. I would stop for a break at the famous coffeebar on the North Circular where I was always a bit of a wonder as none of them seemed to be interested in covering long distances. My average time for that trip was around 10 hours each way, lots of 30mph speed limits then! I left UK for New Zealand almost 60 years ago and rode mostly Hondas here, unfortunately health problems make bikes off limits for me now which is frustrating.
Appreciate the video. The side-by-side comparison definitely shows an improvement. Does the Osram bulb have a larger power draw? Would an LED be better for power draw on the system or is it just not an issue?
Thanks. No the bulb is the same rating 12v 60 55 do doesnt draw more power. Brighter light is achieved by using better materials. If you move up from 55w then it will draw more. Led should be less draw I think 👍
Off to Portugal in ten days. Need spare bulbs. Will get this headlight one from Amazon. What is the indicator bulb size? Trolled through the service book, Hitchcocks, Halfords to no avail. Will order from Amazon and have them sent to my brother on South Coast, to be sure of delivery. Please enlighten me. This trip is orders of magnitudes harder than just catching a plane to the Far East. Regulations gone mad. Should be back mid June. If you are ever Moray way, you are welcome to a comfortable airbed, dinner and breakfast. Tom
Hi, I decided to replace the bulb on my Himalayan after only a few days. The local bike accessory shop was doing a good price on the Osram's. After fitting, the results are a bit strange. The high beam with the new bulb seems to illuminate the road more than the way ahead and drivers are flashing me when the lights are dipped so I'm a bit puzzled. That said I never rode the bike at night with the original bulb so I have no reference point but the results are not what I'd hoped.
Hi Ryan. The headlight on the Himalayan is not great to say the least. I had the same issues with the original bulb before replacing it. I found the oem was lighting up the trees and on full beam pretty much useless lighting up the sky. Even on Dipped beam though I was being flashed by drivers as well. I found adjusting the beam down by adjusting the headlight certainly improved it a bit. I did a video on how to adjust the headlight. Hope that helps mate 👍
Have you tried comparing with and without the guard? I never thought about this until way back in the 90s when my insurance company wanted an unreasonable charge for having a bull bar on an old Land Rover so I took it off and was amazed at how much better the lights were without the few slats in front of them. I personally wouldn't go with an LED. Not sure about bikes but they are now an MOT failure on a car if fitted to replace non LED bulbs, because there is an issue with them. I looked at them for my Classic Car and the issue with LEDs is while they look brighter, use less juice, and last longer their design tends not to put the light in the right place for the way the reflector is designed so they do dazzle a lot more as what you get is a brighter but more scattered light, which those that don't go out of town and have to rely on good lights never really notice.
Thanks Sean. I haven't taken the guard off but I agree it must make a difference. I get a rather funky grid especially with full beam. I ride in heavy fog a few weeks ago and it was literally like being behind bars lol. Yep I rather avoid led if possible I light direction can be a real problem. Its an improvement so far so let's see how it goes 👍
@@WeeJaunt That may be why you see a lot of adventure bikes with the additional lights. LED's are generally fine in a housing made for them. I had a car set up for rallying in the 80s. Once you go to extra lights you have some nice choices. You can set the headlight deliberately a little too low for high beam. You can wire the additional lights in with a relay and switch in such a way that they will only come on with high beam, but if the switch is off they won't. Because they are a separate unit you can then point them where ever you want. The only thing I found was if you were bombing along with a full set of lights on and a car came round the corner in the distance and you did dip it was like driving into a black hole and sometimes you may have been going that quick with the good lights on that on dip you couldn't actually stop in the distance the lights lit up.
@@seankearney6915 nothing worse than bad lights at night on a bike. That or drivers flashing full beam on you especially in the wet. I don't think most drivers realise just how deadly it can be. Iv had to adjust headlight beam etc. I was quite annoyed tbh that the light was set so high from the off.
A good headlight is not just about the brightness, but about the light pattern. Part of that light pattern is the cutoff at the top of the pattern. That cutoff dictates how you adjust the light. You want the cutoff to be high enough to see where you are going without blinding oncoming drivers.
Thanks for sharing that, fitted the same on mine this evening, definitely an improvement with the clearer white light and for very little cost too, which is always a pleasant change hey! Took your hand guard advise too and pleased with them, so thanks again. Maybe a chain cleaning lubing video or chain options would be good? I got the Did x ring fitted from new and very happy with it. All the best 👍
Yep Aux lights were probably gonna be my next option. Figured I'd try a cheaper-easier solution first. Led lights are great plenty of options on them but they can be a problem here in the UK with the law.
@@WeeJaunt On cars that's the case but currently bikes are excluded as long as the beam pattern conforms. This may well change in the future. I'm not convinced a Led bulb fitted to an incandescent style headlamp would give the same spread and kick up to the left. I will be fitting the same sort of bulbs as you to our Himalayan's to get that whiter light.
Hey, maybe you should add a light switch becaus the nightbrakers are not as shock resistant and strong as a normal bulb. So the risk of shaking it to death when riding offroad is much higher. With a headlight switch you can turn the headlight of while offroading...
Thanks Enceetee. Yep the brighter the bulb the less it will last. That's another reason I chose the silver rather than the laser bulb. Iv never really tracked bulb shelf life. I recon I get anything from 1-3 years on a halogen bulb. It's often just your luck how long it lasts. Thanks again 👍
Haha brilliant. Any of them would be a upgrade no doubt. Laser is brighter than the Silver no doubt. Wishing I'd bought them both to do a comparison but not point throwing money on bulbs if I don't need to eh.
Short Side by Side Comparison at the end of the video. Osram Silver vs OEM bulb. Hopefully you can see at least a bit of a difference.
