  • G7 정상회의 개막 21일 한일•한미일 정상회담 예정
G7 Summit kicked off in Hiroshima, Japan, the city devastated by a nuclear bomb one August morning in 1945 at the end of World War Two.
The war in Ukraine and China's aggression towards Taiwan will be key items on the agenda, with Fumio Kishida also pushing for a nuclear weapons pledge.
This year, holding the presidency, Japan invited eight countries, including South Korea, marking fourth time Seoul is taking part in the summit.
As planned, President Yoon is to meet with Biden and Kishida on the sidelines of the summit.
What are details of the G7 Summit and how are China and North Korea reacting to it?
For this, we have invited Hans Schattle, Professor of Yonsei University into the studio.
Professor Schattle, welcome to the show.
We also have Ramon Pacheco Pardo, Professor at King's College through Skype.
Good to see you, Professor Pacheco Pardo.
(SCHATTLE) Q1. What are the key items on the agenda for this year's G7 Summit? And what significance does this year's summit have?
(PACHECO PARDO) Q2. President Yoon Suk Yeol has been invited to the summit as well. He is already in Japan with a scheduled summit with many other nations including Australia and Vietnam. In what areas do you believe Seoul can highlight its presence at the summit, and what does it mean to have successive bilateral talks with other nations amid global challenges the world is facing?
(SCHATTLE) Q3. Recently, the Federation of Korean Industries released findings showing that the national competitiveness ranking of South Korea has emerged as the sixth-best in the world, demonstrating a comparable level to G7 nations. With discussions about the possibility of Seoul being included as a member, how would you assess the chances of this happening, and what contributions should South Korea make?
(PACHECO PARDO) Q4. Just two days before G7 Summit began, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inspected the regime's first military reconnaissance satellite and reportedly gave the green light for the next stage. It seems the launch could be imminent. If it is launched successfully, what would it mean?
(PACHECO PARDO) Q5. Some are saying North Korea's next provocative move might come around the time when G7 Summit is held, while some are predicting the North may restart provocations around a key anniversary in July. What's your view?
(SCHATTLE) Q6. Moving on to trilateral cooperation between Seoul, Tokyo, and Washington They are already working on sharing information about North Korea's missile threats in real-time. What tangible results or agreements could we expect regarding three-way cooperation from the trilateral summit scheduled for Sunday?
(PACHECO PARDO) Q7. G7 Summit is expected to be a stage to show unity against China and Russia. First of all, the G7 nations are aiming to send a signal to China by announcing a joint effort to counter Beijing's "economic coercion" and also emphasize peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. How do you believe discussions over China will develop?
(SCHATTLE) Q8. Leaders of Central Asia gathered in China on Thursday and Friday, sealing pledges of "enduring" friendship. This overlaps with a meeting of the G7. What does this China-Central Asia Summit suggest?
(PACHECO PARDO) Q9. Russia too is one of the key items on the agenda. Just before we began our segment, US and Britain announced fresh sanctions against Russia, targeting Russian diamonds and going after entities helping Moscow. With the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy set to attend the summit in person, how is discussion over Russia expected to develop?
(SCHATTLE) Q10. Amid the deepening split between Western nations against Russia and China, what diplomatic strategy would suit South Korea?
Unfortunately, this is all the time we have for today's edition.
Thank you Professor Schattle and Professor Pacheco Pardo for your insights.
    We appreciate it.

You say japan doesn't admit it's past , yet you allies allow them to do that and remain their WWII establishment after occupying them as allies unlike Germany
The more north korea or china taunts and threats with missles nukes on Japan , while using historical hatred as an excuse to do that , the more you ask Japan to remilitarize because of not wanting to be nuked again.
It makes Japan at the same question it's WWII establishment being kept alive by the allies and yet it needs military defense.
Arent we playing here a paradox on Japan ?
