  • Peter Waldron ( AKA Professor Waldof ) designed this multi cell, winged, hexagon box in 1977 and handmade them in England for almost 20 years. Its efficient, stable flight and geometric design made it a favourite of many kite fliers.
It was still for sale from Into the Wind shop in 1994 for $129.US.
To celebrate 30 years of this kite design Peter Waldron in 2007 made a limited number of just 50 original designed Waldof Box kites. These were sold by Gomberg Kites for $200 each.
If you ever find a second hand one be quick to buy it.

Hello Conrad. Nice to hear from you. If you have one of Professor Waldofs original kites you are very lucky. They are getting rare to find.
I hope you have an opportunity to fly it one day. Would love to see a photo of it flying.
      Cheers

Thank you for your very kind comments, Carl. Just to let you know that the 'Prof's Box kite recently had it's 40th birthday and the Prof, having had a 'little break' from Kites', has been re- inspired to start designing again! Indeed he hopes to have some prototypes ready early 2018, when he will present a newly designed TETRA and some other 'mathematically elegant' sky sculptures, to be launched at the Qatter/Doah kite festival...
(I suppose I should explain that my familiarity with the Prof's work derives from being happily married to' his' alter ego, Peter Waldron, for some 30 something years!
    Very best wishes.

Hello Ann Marie. What a delight to hear from you. Thank you for taking the time to comment. My pair of Waldof Box kites were made by my father and have now passed to me to enjoy. Thank you to Peter for giving us such a wonderful kite design to enjoy. The few kite fliers left down this end of the world often lament the seemingly loss of new creative kites. So exciting to hear we may see some new designs from the "Professor."
All the best for the Qatter/Doah festival. Can I ask if possible would Peter share some photos in the future.
I will keep a look out in case his kites appear on You Tube later from the festival.
      Regards Carl

Bravo, Professor! fyi, "its 40th birthday" not "it is 40th birthday."

      Hi Ann Marie
I still have some photos of Peter and the Waldof crew at the Old Warden and Scheveningen kite festivals from 1978. I was there with my old college buddy Rosie, whose brother was Peter's business partner. Pleased to say i still fly my now 40 year old Prof Waldof whenever I get the chance !!

Breaking your dad's kites - naughty boy, Carl! That looked great, anyway, and it's certainly a lovely kite.

Yes I broke it but an easy repair being dowel. I had forgotten how enjoyable the box style kites are to fly. I must get them out more often.
I have a few others to film soon.

I have the larger commercial version of this kite from back in the late 80's / early 90's!

Thank you for your comment. Hope your version is still getting the occasional fly. The original ones are becoming a little rare now and not too many people making them. Happy Flying.

I also have the lesser known Prof. Waldof's Star Kite that I found at an estate garage sale. It has no bridle or attachment point & I'm not sure if I should try to fly it somehow or use it as a pattern to make a modern version!?!

@@danokitemanotoo1791 That is interesting you have the Star Kite. I have old copies of the "Into The Wind" Catalog and it shows a Waldof Superstar kite. You can see the bridle on it. I wonder if it is what you have? It would be very rare now but if still in reasonable condition it would be fun to try and fly it again.

@@danokitemanotoo1791 I have a Star Kite as well. The tether points are the top and bottom and the bridal point is wherever you get a good AOA.

Hi Mark. Like so many of the great kite designs the "Waldof Box is no longer commercially made. My one was homemade by my father. There is a small chance one maybe found second hand.

Nicely done, Carl. The kite looks like the inspiration for many variations of the design. Please let me know whether you got my gmail message about the " bumper"

Hi Glenn. I enjoyed flying this kite. I think we often don't fly the box kites because of the assembling effort but its worth it for the visual effect they have.
You are right the Waldof box inspired other designs called the Waldof Conic & Superstar. Sadly all gone now I believe.

Mas se você começar a fabricar esses kits, e colocar na Internet pra vender, você vende pro mundo inteiro.
      Eles são muito bonitos.
      Adorei
      Parabéns pela obra de arte.
