Translation of the poem (Che Danestam):
    How could I know?
    This desire
    Would drive me so insane
Turn my heart into an inferno
Flood my eyes with a deluge
    --------------------------------------------
    How could I know?
    A torrent
    Would carry me so sudden
And Throw me like a ship
    Amidst an ocean of blood
And strike that ship with a wave
    That would break every plank
    And each plank would fall
    In divergent spins
    --------------------------------------------
A leviathan would then raise its head
    And drink all the water
    And such endless ocean
Would turn dry like a desert
    --------------------------------------------
When these changes came to pass
    Neither ocean remained nor desert
    And I know not why
For this uncertain is drowned in the absolute
    --------------------------------------------
    Questions are abound
    Yet I know none
For I drank in this sea, a morsel
    From the opiate of silence
    (RUMI)

this vocal style may sound strange for the westerners but since we have been familiar with it since our childhood we enjoy it very much and in fact we rate singers based on his skill in this vocal style, if you are wondering what the philosophy behind this vocal style is Homayoun once said in his interview that the founders of this style were trying to mimic the sound of nightingale.

There is no easy way to translate Persian poems, especially those like this one that talk about love, humanity, etc, which are full of Persian virtues and idioms and references and metaphors. I personally can only give word by word translation which totally kills the meaning and the novelty of the poems.

I've been following your Shajaryan stuff for some time now, the father and the son. I totally understand the lyrics cause I'm Iranian. I've seen people who react, wanna know the lyric, but this time you asked for only listening to the sound and vocal not the lyrics. Although the lyrics are very beautiful and poetic, this is the first time I wish I couldn't understand the lyric to feel what you just felt. Love brother. 🩵

BTW this piece is not named prelude, the real name is " che danestam" which translates to " I had no idea". Other people on UA-cam translate it to "what did I know" which is of course a very literal and word-by-word and wrong translation. I got the whole album made for this movie, the album is amazing.

The poem is related to the changes in the spiritual condition of Rumi (Iranian poet and mystic) after meeting Shams Tabrizi (read Rumi's biography is very interesting)
    Meaning of lyrics (source:lyricstranslate.com)
    How could I know that this longing would drive me so crazy;
That it would make my heart a prison, and my eyes a river?
How know tears like a flash flood would carry me away,
And hurl me like a boat into a vast sea of blood?
That waves would beat and split this boat board by board,
Until each board twists away from all the many tortures?
    That the sea-monster would raise its head- and swallow the sea;
That such an immense sea would go dry like a desert plain?
That the devouring sea-monster would then split this plain,
And suddenly pull me down into a pit, like Qarun, in wrath?
    When these transformations occurred, naught remained;
What do I know, when why and what swallow each other?
    O how many the “I don’t knows” there are- but I don’t know;
For I have swallowed the foam of opium, to forget that sea!

the lyrics are transcendental about a spiritual journey of a philosopher-lover.he is watching and narrating a battle between two realm of his soul, mind and heart(reason and love).you can see this contrast in music too,an upbeat theme with joyful passion and a melancholic vocals who is talking and questioning.he is definitely a great Artist.

    music translation :
    what have i known?
    that this love relation
    what have i known?
    that this love relation
    drives me this much insane
    what have i known?
    that this relation
    drives me this much insane
    makes my heart a hell
and my eyes like a river
    what have i known?
that a flood suddenly is about to grab me
suddenly is about to grab me
sinks me like a ship through a sea full of blood
in a sea full of blood
sends a wave to that ship
that tears it up into driftwoods
    that every plank collapses
    from all the rotations
    and a whale gets appeared
drinks whole water of that sea
like that infinite sea becomes dry
    becomes dry like a desert
    dry like a desert
    and when these alterations happened
neither the sea nor the desert remained
what do i know about reasons and what happened next??
that all the reasons are sunken without explanation
there are so many of "what have i known?" questions
there are so many of "what have i known?" questions but i don't know any of their answers
i have been just quiet(i was tolerant) and i have been drunk(still joyful) in this cruel sea of love
