    We had major problems with the pump trick at the start of pouring this concrete floor.
    Watch Part 1 to see what the problems were and how or if we got them fixed.
    In this video we're pumping a 16 yard concrete house floor. The new house is on the side of a hill so the truck access wasn't good.
    The pump truck was supposed to make this and easy pour, watch the video to see if it was in fact easy.

    The best part of your videos is the professionalism of you and your guys. No horsing around, no yelling and profanity, just a professional get it done approach to the task at hand. They respect you because you show everyone respect right down to the pump truck operator. You sir are a great example of what a leader is. Well done!

    I got footer guys that I will send my guys too with poly in a container and depending on bulk heads, they'll dump some in and take that 5 to a 9 inch slump. I've got guys who pour out of the truck that always ask for mid range on site. Good stuff and you can pour wet without all the water degrading the concrete when you would add 30 to 40 to get that slump you want and with mid range you throw 10 in and you've got the same result.

      Yes, awesome, thanks for the comment!

    • @Doughboy931
      @Doughboy931 2 роки тому

      On a side note though, you need a crew that can get on the slab and finish it before the mid range starts sloping off. When it does, you're going to dry up to the slump it was before adding mid range. Compared to water it'll dry up quicker because it's just the chemical making it take less water to get it wet.

    The slump is perfect, that a good New England 6. Mid range is great. We used it in Portland at the new edition of Maine medical. We used Auburn for the project, have you used them?

    Here in Montana with the weather cooling off,the batch plants not having their boilers on for hot water the concrete justs sits there especially in the shade lines. Anyone else having that problem?

    Mike got a question is there difference in how much cream is left on top between the area where you power screed and hand screed and does it affect the finish of the floor. Another great job.

    • @MikeDayConcrete

      Might be slightly more where we power screed. Don't see a difference when we power trowel.

      Pump op and mike were both freaking out a little at the end. That’s what it looks like when it happens. We know at the end of the day screaming and yelling don’t solve shit and the concrete is going to set up either way

    Check out Matt Risinger (Build Show) He’s got some really good info on building science-including under floor insulation. I just finished a basement for a customer and installed foam over the slab since there wasn’t foam under the slab. I’m in South Portland.

      Don't drink his Kool aid, he has encouraged and supported some very questionable building practices. Improved framing, conditioned attics, that coated osb, old pex when it poisonous. Newer isn't always better.

    Mike. You do realize that pumping is not an easy job, I seen three issues with that pump operator. First he didn't get the water ahead of the concrete. Second his agitator was going the wrong way and when he started to prime he lost his lube by not ensuring his pump was ready. That guy looked very green

    Nice work guys! I've been pump operator for 17 years and now own a pumping business. Everyone kept their cool and got it done. As a operator working with a concrete crew that knows what they are doing help tremendously. Only thing I'd done differently with the plugged pump, would have reverse it to release any pressure after the botched prime out. It help relieve the rock jam and not hurt anyone. Most time nothing happens but I've see air pocket blow out and it pretty crazy. Great crew that knows what they are doing.

    50 bucks a sheet for the Styrofoam to save 4 bucks a year....government overreach at its finest...lol...

  • @torchup
    @torchup 2 роки тому +2

    Respectfully, it is simply a no-brainer and proven over and over through years of testing that separation between a transferable cold ground, (especially in your Maine climate) and a 4inch concrete slab that a 2-inch layer of rigid foam insulation is forty times more efficient at trapping heat than just a concrete slab on ground grade surfaces alone. Although rigid foam can be expensive at the outset, the savings over the next few decades will far outweigh the costs.
    Your skepticism is bewildering, fine sir.😇

    Hi Mike, unlucky with this new driver, but everything ending good.
    Question; when it’s a slab for inside a building you don’t cut any joints ? Joints are only for outside ? Probably spend the bucks necessary for the lessons from you. Probably diy Alaskan slab soon. Thanks, Fred (from France)

    Long story short hot day on a bridge in summer its 10 am, late truck with hot load, so pump plugs up like a chain one by one down the line they plug up 5 of them total it's me one other Finisher and 3 Labourers we break houses and are hitting them with sledge hammer and lifting them up full of hardened concrete shaking the hose line when the engineer looks at me and says just hang it on a tree and bang on it 😑

    What would happen if pump fails? Fails to work, fails to come to job site ... flat tire etc. You got a cement truck on site and 1 more on the way. What can you do? I am thinking of doing my own foundation and this is the scenario that is graying my hair and I am thinking of switching to blocks to just avoid such a case. Has anything like this ever happened?

    It was slight incompetence of operator, certainly not a major problem. When you get concrete going off in lines, cold joints or blowen pipes then it becomes a major problem
