About the coins: if you hold a coin, the other slot is guaranteed to give you something else. So if you won't have a double item coming up, don't burn the coin immediately!
Im kinda glad they added the coin. It makes the game more stable, like you are not only getting defensive items in 1st place, which is a good thing because then it makes it easier for other people to take 1st place. Just keep the coin when in 1st and you are getting another item 100%
Regarding powerups in general. The items it gives you is based on how far away you are from 1st place, not your position on the leaderboard but the actual distance between you and first. You can be in second and get a bullet bill if first is far enough away. This can make fighting in the mid pack crazy if first place is really good.
As I mentioned in your previous video, always hold 1 coin therefore no matter what you will get a banana or a shell of some kind. Also keeping the 1 coin in your item slot is good to keep just in case a boo takes your item so it’ll take your coin instead.
That first grumble race was super impressive, not an easy room with multiple 10k+ players, and you stayed in the lead for ages plus made a great comeback
When I play Mario Kart online, I discovered that acceleration is one of the best traits to have, because of how often you get stopped from enemy items. Fast recovery really can nullify a ton of it.
Wait, acceleraion actually does that? Every combo I choose it takes around the same amount of time. I play more heavy characters but acceleration feels very fast in general

All the previous videos were like a different game. This one, this is the Mario Kart everyone else is playing. In a split second you go from first to near last and good freakin' luck getting back. Surprisingly to me, this was just as fun to watch as when you dominated. I think that's mainly because you didn't stay in last, and because it wasn't me playing.
The amount of coins you get given when in first is unfair and, generally, not what you want... However the other side to this is that there would be no point otherwise. If you are in first and always got an item to block red shells then you would never be out of first place except for blue shells. It makes for great content when you get knocked down to 8th or below and you make the comebacks we saw in this Mario Kart Carnage we saw today. Best one so far. "This is not a drill!" The trick is to look at your coin as a usable item instead of a throw away. Hold on to your coin as long as you can. If you haven't gotten another item and you are about to be hit, use it right before you get hit, so you'll loose 3 coins, but immediately gain 2 back. This helps you accelerate back up to full speed quicker once you finish spinning out than if you use it after you finish spinning out or just don't use it. Additionally, if you have a coin already and are coming up to an item box line that only has singles, or you can not get a double, you are nearly always guarenteed a different item, so don't just use the coin to have no item.

I'd honestly add a Coin Bag in low spots that gets you to max coins, since being far back sucks because you get hit a lot and have no coins, and higher spots steal track coins.

Mario kart is relentless. I got so mad sometimes droping from first the fully 2 laps and then to last spot in seconds. Seeing happening to ryukar makes my heart at ease haha

I'm one of those that are loving these MK8 videos. Part of it for me is I can tell he's having a great time, which is awesome to watch, but it's also perversely fun to watch someone get Mario Kart'd. Hate when it happens to me though. Lol.

Ryu! Make sure whenever you have a coin and an empty item slot, that you keep the coin while driving through an itembox! This way you’re guaranteed an actual item, because the game won’t allow you to hold two coins at once.
I feel that the person in first should be getting items to dodge the blue shell as much as the people in the back get the blue shells. Like, in addition to coins and banana peels, the person in first should also be getting boost shrooms and super horns at the same rate as they get coins and banana peels.

IMPORTANT MK INFO FOR RYU: You complain a lot about getting too many COINS. To avoid this, hold on to the coin until the next itembox. The game will NEVER give you a second coin, if you're already holding one. That way you'll never end up getting several coins in a row, to secure your position on first place! I think a fair compromise with the coin would be to have it only spawn when you don't have 10 coins. That would keep it from being *completely* useless, provide some incentive to be as clean as possible (collect 10 coins, try to avoid getting hit, etc) and still be around to not give 1st place defensive items every time. If 1st place always had a banana peel, green shell or otherwise it'd be that much harder to overtake someone in 1st. That coin you got in 2nd place though is not cool.
When you are in first place you only get coins, bananas and green shells.... It is super rare to get anything else while in first place. The items are not as "random" as they should be!

Also I think you can't hold 2 coins at the same time so if you have a coin don't use it up when going through a single item box to risk getting a coin again. I do admit they are way to common though in first.

if coins had much more impact or actually rare to see to on the map then getting that much coins would be a blessing but there are so much of them that they become useless early on.
I'm definitely not a fan of the coins, they seem so useless in this game. What I've noticed is that if you save your coin until the next item box, it won't give you another one. So I usually use this trick if I can't get a double item, to make sure I'll get something to shield myself with. If I am able to get a double item, I'll ditch the coin right before hitting the box. Now I don't actually know if this is useful while playing online, since I've never done that myself. It's just an interesting thing I noticed a while ago 😁
