This is old I remember in an old popular electronics salt was used to power a radio(one with an amplifier not just a crystal set). You are just making a battery. I think you can take salt water and get similar results. I may try it next trip to the beach. 73

you could improve it with a dc-dc usb module, and magnesium rods are better, instead of aluminum

Это хорошая установка. Но лучше собрать достаточно ячеек, что бы работало все без преобразователя. Так эффективнее. С преобразователем часть энергии тратится на преобразование. Ещё, контакт изолированный клеем очень плохой, будет окисление. Лучше всего изолировать битумной мастикой или асфальтом.

I used a joule thief to increase voltage. You better try my other salt water lamp which is much better.
