    Hey Steve! Keith here in Southern California. I really liked this segment. It’s so fun seeing people proud of their gear. I feel the same about mine. A lot of people out there cannot understand the enjoyment music can bring played on two channel stereo system (or on a good mono system). We can! Anyways, I really like your videos. It’s all about having fun. Your videos are fun (and educational). I’d like to submit a pic of my gear in the next couple months or when you do this segment again. Until then, keep the videos coming. They’re great.

      In my bedroom I have a Schiit Vali 2/Modi Multibit for my headphones. In the living room I have a Modi 3 and Saga preamp feeding my tube amp and speakers. On my main system I have a Gungnir Multibit and a Jotunheim with a phono card that I am using as a preamp. Their Schiit is simple, affordable and very high quality.

      I lost hearing due to big guns in the service. If you need hearing aids, work with a good audiologist to rind a hearing aid that works for you. Some hearing aids have a "Music" setting. Not perfect but pretty darn good. With digital technology, they can tune your listening curve to make music pleasant. For instance if you have a sensitivity to high end brightness or harshness, they can lower those frequencies. The second thing at least for me was to make the system mellow. No metal dome tweeters, neutral electronic and speakers that some other people might find not bright enough. For example, ELAC DRB 62 debut reference or Dynaudio Evoke line of speakers. Even cables can make a difference, I avoid silver plated copper. In my experience add brightness. People are different, you just need to work with it. One last thing. If you have allergies that can effect your hearing, clog your hearing canal. Medicine can keep that clear. Dr. Audio.

    Still more bookshelf speakers on stands taking up just as much room as a floor-stander would!! 4 years now as a newbie audiophile, still don't get it, still never had a satisfactory explanation why you would choose that route! ?????

    • @woohunter1
      @woohunter1 3 роки тому

      IKR? By the time you spend the money on good bookshelf speakers and good stands, could have had the floorstanders, that’s what I did. There’s a misconception that floorstanders can be to much speaker for the room, don’t understand that one either.

    • @jogmas12
      @jogmas12 3 роки тому +1

      Floor standers can be expensive, at least the bookshelf’s are in a optimal position for best audio delivery instead of being on a bookshelf or hung on a wall, two installations which I deeply detest.

      Imaging and soundstaging...
      My preference is towards large, powerfully dynamic speakers.
      However, small, capable, well executed two ways, that are properly set up can perform a disappearing act that's often a challenge for larger baffle fronts.
      Smaller standmounts are easier to physically locate/set up just perfectly.

    • @jim586
      @jim586 3 роки тому

      There’s two very good replies to your question here.
      Imagining, soundstage and the speakers ability to disappear.
      When you hear that done well it’s difficult to listen to mainstream floorstanders.
      The other factor is if you live in the UK or Europe living rooms are much smaller so people’s expectations are somewhat different. Delicacy and articulacy win over PA sound pressure levels and huge bass.
      I’ve tried a few times over the last 30 years to find a big lump of a floorstander as they do sometimes look impressive. They just never cut it sound wise.
      Cheers
      Ps. There’s another reason people prefer standpoints over floorstanders. Speed.

    • @TheChrisleekay
      @TheChrisleekay 3 роки тому

      @@jim586 I'm not in anyway anti-bookshelf in fact I have bookshelf speakers in three other rooms in my house! Imaginging err.. maybe I guess but better soundstage from a bookshelf I find a bit bemusing! For my main system I would never consider a bookshelf speaker . Maybe it's slightly dependent on the kind of music you generally listen to! And hey we certainly don't all see the world in the same way so why would we all hear it the same! 😉

    Very pretty eye candy. But only one photo showed Wall Treatments and Bass Traps. And in that system, the foam "egg crate" style is used. This material does almost nothing as demonstrated through measurements reported in several places. I consider reducing resonant behavior and secondary reflections just as important as choice of an amp. For about $5K, one can do a very good job at reducing frequency response and time errors, especially in the bass and mid-bass (70Hz to 700Hz). That's less than one spends on an "audiophile" power amp. The addition of scatterers on the wall behind the listening position will reduce reflections and most importantly, improve imaging. I was very pleasantly surprised after I had installed my wall absorbers and scatterers and corner traps.

    Working on doing something like this for you. Well not like THIS maybe! I'm setting up a new place and the last few weeks have been agonising what equipment to get. Second home, smaller rooms don't want to go nuts. Ran into a few brick walls. Equipment I want isn't sold here. Trials are out of the question. Equipment I do find I've never heard of. But then I found a Harman Kardon 930 Twin Power on Ebay. Have put in a bid - buying on ebay is kinda Russian Roulette as no idea if you'll get a racehorse or a dead dog. But I think going retro is the best idea for me. Now to find speakers (eyeing some Celestion Ditton 240s). Just frustrating trying to do this without seeing or hearing. You have any knowledge about 1970s H/K sound? And Celestion?

    With work meetings all being on video conference these days, I'm always checking out the background to see if I can spy any audio gear. These videos scratch my kit voyeuristic itch a treat. Thanks Steve and all contributors.

    All the vintage equipment reminds me of Barzilay wall systems that used to advertise in Audio and High Fidelity magazines. A friend just took one down in mint condition and could not find someone to buy it. I really wanted it but didn't have a place in the house for it.
