i think its because your friend had the talent where if your being carried it slows down the carrier, it works witth npcs cause they dont have it. try it with another person without that talent though i want to see if it works.
you can do this pretty much anywhere if you use crescent cleaver/kyrscleaver critical onto any sloped surface, very useful in depth sand also in song seeker (i bellcheck myself with this)
