I did that in 1983 with the Crackerjack Marching Unit. It was an honor.
I was there for AT “A” school and then AVSI training from June 1994 to April 1995. I never saw this ceremony, but the Crackerjacks’ barracks were right next to mine. Not only was this detail one of their responsibilities, but they were also a very highly skilled rifle drill team. We referred to them, rather irreverently, as the “Flipping Butterknives”.
I was in the same barracks in 1988. Our window on the 3rd floor was next to the sidewalk the mustered on prior to entering the barracks after practice. I remember them yelling. "Are! You! MOTIVATED!" Then, they would bark like dogs. Arooo Arooo!
.
So, of course, my roommates would yell out, "Are! You! CONSTIPATED!" Arrooo. Arrrooo! We thought we were soooo funny. We respected the heck out of what they were doing, we were just belligerent middle fingers. People who join the Nav tend to be, ya know!
I was at AT A school as well. For about 3 months in 1996 then for the move to Pensacola.
I went to "AT-A" school there for nine months in 1970-71. I don't believe I ever saw that. Sorry I missed it.
I was a part of that unit CJMU while assigned there for AV A School, 1986-87…did that detail many times in adverse weather
That building was the S-1 Admin Building, It is gone but the flag pole was moved to North Side in front of the Airport Admin office.
I remember this being shown as the sign off when I was a kid in Memphis TN
Yes. I was employed by WKNO TV Memphis and produced it for that purpose. This was before the station was on air 24/7.
I was the NAS Public Affairs Officer and ran the "Bluejacket" base newspaper from 1982-84. My office was in that very building!
