  • It is great to have Airy Disk come to the USA. They bring a lot of great scope options especially for jumbo sized refractors.

Did he say a 12 inch refractor.... Where can I find this beast and how many organs will I need to sell to get it?

Probably a lung on the black market will get you enough funds. And yes he did say 12in.

We are making 5 8“ scopes and are planning a 10“ for next year. The 12“ scopes we make are custom orders.

Was i nervous. Corrections: most ED glasses like FCD 1 , FCD 100 and H-FK61 are in some sense synthetic fluorite. And I didnt mean blanks for testing, i wanted to say concave master the gound lens is placed in. This shows fringes without having to move the lens to the testing lab.

Hi Ralf. Next year we can do better :) and more details too. You should bring an old master to the show as a item to discuss.

There was a strange cut where you were talking about that small refractor and then he says $15,000 😅Probably talking about a much larger scope at that point.

@4:50 he talks about the price of the little guy, which will be $490. Later, he starts to ask about something else, there is a cut and loss of recorded video, and the guy from Airy Disk says $15,000. So, I'm assuming that the question was about their largest model.

@@shubinternet That seems to be the price of their 204mm f/7 APO triplet. Nothing about the 12" on their website...

I have to say I disagree with how he said FCD-100 is not a fair comparison to FPL-53 that’s just untrue. They have extremely similar Abbe values and according to Vic from Stellarvue, across hundreds of telescopes, the ones with FCD-100 and FPL-53 were identical.

As someone just entering the astrophotography world I find it interesting that when a camera lens is released from any given manufacturer, it is put through countless rigorous lab tests by many reviewers dissecting all of its strengths and faults which are then published in many articles. Then on top of that you have countless UA-cam reviews based on subjective user results repeated ad nauseum.
Probably as a result of the small size of the astro community, lenses don't get any of that testing at all. There's no real objective testing done to compare how one lens from a brand compares to its competitors. Plus there's only a miniscule amount of user reviews and it usually consists just of repeating the spec sheet. It's all just blind faith and every manufacturer always markets their lenses as the best ever made. 😂. I'm sure someone will say telescopes are less likely to have defects than camera lenses but I refuse to believe every telescope from every brand is optically perfect.
The camera world has established players that have been in the market for decades if not half a century. (RIP Olympus) Each major brand has established and known optical formulas. Nikon lenses have a different rendering than Fuji or Cannon or Olympus. But in astro it's like the wild west. All these telescopes could be made in the same factory in China and just rebranded 😄.
    Just an interesting observation.
