    I went with the Abus Hyban 2.0 (back in Apr. '21), but everytime I checked the Rad site they were out of stock. Found it on Amazon for roughly $56 (still at that price basically), compared to the $79 Rad wanted, which didn't include their basic shipping fee of $10, iirc. The Abus helmet is comfortable, and I also bought a thin "skull cap" to wear under it to help prevent helmet hair from the internal padding. I don't ride at night, so have never used the light on the back of it.
    I looked at the MIPS features of helmets, and it does slightly increase the cost/pricing of the helmets that have that feature.

      All of the accessories on the RAD site is likely at full retail price (no discounts). I bought it because I had nothing else to get with the gift certificates that was given to me. It's not likely I will buy another bicycle with the money as it would never add to up the cost of a second bike. So, it is "buy the accessories, or get nothing"! And, so many items are out of stock! I would have applied the money to more tires as I am likely to wear out another set of tires this coming season, but those are out of stock too! This whole supply chain shortages is killing all of us!

    Ever since getting E-bike summer 2021, have been searching for better helmet than what originally purchased. Came across Xnito & Bern. Different models provide NTA 8776/MIPS-rated protection. Only Serious hurdle is $$$$

    The first vented helmet is one I would use for my road and mountain bike. But the Bern helmet looks like it is better used with the Rad Power Bikes. Also, the Bern helmets not only offer good safety, it blends better with the ebikes haha.

    • @RussIsRight

      Agreed. I think the Bern helmet is better for the speeds I ride with the ebike. One fall at 20+ mph and you'll likely want that better helmet!

    Russ,
    I have been reading about NTA 8776 certified helmets for Class 3 e bikes. These are better in higher speed crashes. Check out Xnito Old School and the Lazer Urbanize helmets. Most now have NTA and MIPS certs.

    Russ - Love your videos. I noticed that your link takes you to the 2020 generation of the helmet, which only has 17 reviews on Amazon and rates kind of poorly. The 2019 generation helmet has over 200 reviews and rates much higher. Don’t know what to make of that. Also, to complicate matters, Bern has several other models that seem to have various design tweaks, which may be better options (depending on intended use, head shape, etc.). Finally, and not to be a contrarian, but all of these helmets are “brain buckets”. That may sound safe, but in motorcycle/motor scooter land, where I played until recently, that is a minimal level of protection. If you are going 20-30 mph on your e-bike and have a crash, your modeling days may be over. I had a 25 mph spill on my motor scooter some years back and my 3/4 helmet with full face shield saved me from what would have been a pretty serious head trauma and facial reconstruction outcome (I have the scratched up face shield to remind myself of that and I never pushed the envelope again). I think you need to remind viewers as often as you can that e-bike riding offers significantly more injury risk than the world of casual bicycle riding (which, I suspect, is where most e-bike riders come from). All that said, thanks again for keeping us ever vigilant as we enjoy this wonderful new riding experience.

    Thanks for the review Russ, i also need a new helmet. I am curious as to what was your head measurement was to lead you to order a size medium. My measurement was 59 and that
    would sit right between the Large and Medium.

    • @RussIsRight
      @RussIsRight  2 роки тому +1

      I measured 58 cm. I will say, it's a very snug fit, but I think that is good. The only real issue I see is that if I wanted to order a helmet liner for colder riding, I doubt it would fit under the helmet since it is a snug fit even without it. Visit Bern's website and you'll see they do sell a liner that you can get for colder weather riding. I don't know how even a fairly thin one would fit under the helmet with a head size of 58. If you think one day that you might get a liner, you might want to consider the large. Of course that would also mean that the helmet would not be as snug without a liner. Here's a direct link to their "beanie": www.bernhelmets.com/collections/all-season/products/cold-weather-bike-liner

    I like the BERN helmets. I had one that I paid $120 for and it was my favorite helmet. What I like about BERN is their helmets are not "bulbous" looking. They are sleek. I don't like the look of helmets like Russ's first one. One thing that I've only seen on BERN helmets is the front of the helmet sticks out giving protection to your face. I had a fall a couple of years ago that sent me sliding face first (on concrete) on what would have been my face if not for the BERN helmet! When I gathered myself and looked at the helmet, it was scratched up on the front and a bit over the top! That would have been my nose and probably my chin too. That sold me on BERN. And, imo, they just look cool. My e-bike guy told me I should get a new helmet because the BERN was compromised. I was sorry I listened to him because I still don't have another BERN yet! But I will in the new year. I am wearing a helmet now, but it's not a BERN.

    Hi Russ, what kind of mic do you use when biking?

    • @RussIsRight
      @RussIsRight  2 роки тому +1

      I have a Shure lavalier mic. It requires 48 volts of phantom power and has its own transformer. It plugs into an external digital recorder and the audio track has to be synchronized to the GoPro's video via computer software.

      By the way, I now mount a 360 camera to my Xnito helmet. The 3M branded double stick tape used to mount GoPro type camera mounts is extremely sticky. I don’t worry one bit that it will dismount off the helmet. It is very very strong. I doubt I can remove it in fact!
