I suffered a bit with the potatoes jaja. What I normally do when I want to mash them is to boil them. They boil pretty easily and then they are soft as butter. As a Westerner, it did surprise me that there wasn't a fork in your house, but it is true that if I wasn't in my household we wouldn't have chopsticks probably. Also, another recommendation that you can ignore if you want is to put a bowl, then plastic wrap, and then the potatoes to make the balls easily because otherwise, they can be sticky jaja Oh and I really love the blue and white bowl you put the mochis in, it is so lovely!! Thank you for the video.
In my country everyone can easily cook mashed potatoes as it is one the most popular side dishes, that go with meat, sausage, poultry or fish. For that you need to boil the potatoes in water with some salt till they are very very soft, pick them out of water, then easily mash it with potato masher! You can then use mashed popatoes for making pancakes or mochi in different ways, but for the traditional mashed potatoes side dish I add butter and hot milk and then use mixer to make it completely smooth and creamy texure. It is very tasty and tender. If one allergic to regular milk, can use soy milk istead. Also some cheese or chopped greens can be mixed in for more flawor. It is not convinient to eat with chopstics though, have to use spoon or fork -)
Thank you for sharing your mashed potatoes recipe! It sounds absolutely delicious and I love the idea of adding cheese or greens for extra flavor. I’ll have to give it a try, though I might need to borrow a fork for that! :)
If you boil your potatoes on the stove in water you can check them with a fork to see how soft they are. You want them to be very soft so that they're easy to mash when they're finished cooking. What you ended up making is what we call in America potato pancakes. I would not have used the potato starch because the potatoes already have plenty in them. I also would have mixed all of the ingredients, included a beaten egg and seasoned to taste. I know you called them potato cheese mochi but to me they are still potato pancakes lol.
Microwave wont do it for raw potatoes. You really need to boil them for at least 20 minutes on the stove. Check with a fork for softness. The longer they boil, the softer they get, the easier they are to mash...never boiled potatoes before?

Thank you for the great tips and for sharing your experience! I’ll definitely try boiling the potatoes next time. Glad you liked the bowl too!
Man, this is the most relaxing youtube videos I have ever seen. Every upload is like a movie. ❤
Thank you so much! I’m really glad you find my videos relaxing. That means a lot to me.
Takumi san next time you must boiled the potatos. You cant mash them when they are not boiled. Try to do it next time. Love from Brazil!
Looks delicious 🇺🇸
That potato mashing made me laugh so hard 😅 safe to say this isn't a cooking channel ❤
Glad it made you laugh! 😅 Yeah, definitely not a cooking channel, but I’m having fun trying!
Many greetings from Germany ❤
Thank you for watching and supporting the channel.
Video anda lucu dan menarik. Saya sangat terhibur.
Aloha Takumi! 🌺🤙
Aloha Aakura!!
Jaja. Está duras, aún, le faltan cocción. No es mejor ponerles agua y hervir?
¡Gracias por el consejo!

Another great vlog! :) all the best!
Thank you Marc!!
