Whitney tells the story of her path to firearm safety. She, like many Americans, lives in a close-knit community but crime is on the rise. This influenced her decision to buy a gun for personal protection but she didn't know much about them so she visited a local gun store. As a first-time buyer, the owner of the gun shop taught her about the responsibility and commitment that comes with owning a gun. She learned as much as she could about safe gun handling and safe firearm storage options for her lifestyle. Whitney knows now that safety really does come first.

More Americans-especially women-are buying guns for many different reasons, ranging from personal protection to recreational shooting. While there are many different reasons why someone would choose to buy a gun, the common thread among them must be a commitment to store firearms responsibly when not in use so they can’t be picked up by a child, stolen or accessed by someone who may want to harm themselves.
