This time of year is great for me. I frequent the bake sales at the Ukrainian Churches fundraisers. I spend hundreds of dollars on delicious food. Borsch, lentil soups, apple strudels, pergies, (p'yerohi) and so much more. They help me learn Ukrainian and welcome me into their lives. Nicest people I have ever met, and 100% of all funds go to medical aid and housing Ukrainian refugees in the area. When I watch this video I will have warm tea or soup.

I've tried them all when I visited Kiev and Kharkiv. Not a fan of Borsch but I loved all the other dishes! Can't wait to visit beautiful Ukraine again and explore the rich cuisine more in depth. Merry Christmas Anna and Slava Ukraini!

Ukrainian food is one of my favorite topics! Thank you for this video, Anna. Ever since my visit to Ukraine in 2019, I have really enjoyed trying many new dishes. Some aren't specifically Ukrainian but seem to be popular there. I have had varenyky, borsch, draniki (deruny), okroshka, Olivye salad, salo, shashlik, pelmeni, kapusnyak, kapusta, kutya, chenahy, chebureki, Poltava dumplings, dried fish, Ukrainian beer, chicken Kyiv, Paska bread, vinaigrette salad, plov, kvas, kefir, ryazhenka, kompot, chechil cheese, Odesskaya brinza cheese, buckwheat honey, and every kind of pickled cucumber, tomato, mushroom, pepper, or watermelon I can find. I may be missing a few items or not know the names of other items. I am such a huge fan of Ukrainian pickles (Polish, too) that I really don't even like most American pickles anymore.

My mum used to make what we called Opie s flap daps (Grandad s potato pancakes). They were served with stewed apples, using Bramley apples, which are sharper in taste than eating apples.

I started making Borscht using my grandma's recipe that she often made when I was a kid. They were from the Donetsk area before coming to Canada after Stalin started killing them all. It's really good. I like lots of dill and pepper and even hot sauce which goes great with the sour cream. Merry Christmas to you all!

That Stew Pot looks particularly mouth watering to an Englishman, we take our various Meat Pies very seriously. The Pancakes as a finisher, absolute Heaven. All gorgeous and warming Dishes. When the Orcs are down the Drain, and Ukraine is blended into the European Family, and hopefully soon the EU, I can see a very lucrative export Market for products like these. And that Hearth/ Fireplace behind you is exquisite. Beautiful in a Cottage.

Ahhh! Thank you, Anna. So, that's what they're called... деруни !! My Dad was always cooking those when I was very young. We used to wait patiently while he kept a whole batch of them piled up, and kept warm in the oven; after he'd fried them... (he added grated onion and plenty of salt and pepper to the recipe). He *always* made sure we grew potatoes at home in the vegetable garden.
It's lovely to discover the things in Ukraine, that connect the dots and make sense of pieces of my Dad's past... Щиро дякую, Анна!

Firstly, Anna's vest is _absolutely beautiful!_ - A work of art in dress. - The setting very-much evokes America's Thanksgiving Holiday in my mind.
That clay-potted stew, covered with bread topping, had me almost salivating! - _That_ I certainly would love to try.
I've seen a few videos of Ukrainian village-food from another You-Tuber (Taya Ukraine), and most of the dishes appear vary appetizing! (Except pickled water melon! ~ If I recall.)
Among other things, now I would love to visit Ukraine (which before the WAR, on countries to visit, it would have not even been on my long-list, of places to travel would-have wished.
Now surely, I would love opportunity to try some of its traditional dishes! But above all, the _Ukrainian-people to visit._

We have had Christmas in Australia, beautiful warm sunny day, hot enough to go swimming, that is what our family did. The potatoes dish you showed is exactly the same as what my wife makes on a regular basis.

That was lovely Anna...and Sacha! I enjoyed the small interlude from all the terror and sadness the war has brought. I do make borscht but not so well as Ukrainians, I think! I also like gherkins and sauerkraut...but that's about my full capacity! I will try harder to embrace the flavour of Ukraine in 2023. Still praying! Slava Ukraine.
