I ended up getting the Taylormade sim max 10.5° with ventus blue shaft. I absolutely love it. I’ve been watching yours in awe all year. I wish I could have afforded to get fit for a Taylormade sim 2 but I think they are pretty similar. Just glad I could be fit!
Could you please get Spriggsy to test the “max” versions of the Ping, Cobra, Callaway, and Taylor Made for us higher handicappers? Great lineup this season and they even all look good
I own both the Epic Speed (purchased first) & the Epic Max (hoping for more draw shotshape). Used same shaft for both (Ozik MSF 75M4 stiff [for lower ball flight]) After plenty of range time, going through all the hozzle adjustments & weight tinkering (with the Max), I am going back to the Speed as my gamer. More consistent, & a few yards longer. Your results may vary!
After taking a few years off and my 30ish year old Wilson clubs it is time to upgrade. Thanks for the videos. I am going to have to hit a bit to decide. But your videos are very informative. Thank you.
James I’d like you to do a video where you hit at least 100 shots with all the top new drivers and compare data. Ball speed, back spin, carry etc. Comparing odd shots doesn’t really tell us much. You dont have to show all the shots, but more data is the only way to know which is best. Anyone agreed?
No ...not really. I agree that switching from club to club (like in this video) is not the best way to compare ...a more repetitive series of shots (with each ..consecutively) gives you a better chance to "warm-up" to a particular club. But a HUNDRED SHOTS/SWINGS!? Not necessary. If you do not know how a club is going to perform after 4 or 5 shots that you feel were as "off the sweet spot" as you normally hit it ...then your merely getting an average of a bunch of shots from all over the clubface! If you are not hitting it at SOMEWHAT around the center, then ANY driver is going to perform pretty much like the rest. I would suggest the "Max" version of any of the top brands if you feel you need 100 shots to find what the "average" of your mis-hits are going to be. (And some range time to correct this huge mis-hit issue)
Mizuno! I know its embargoed, so I assume we'll see a video Monday. But it always seems to keep up with the big boys, but $100 cheaper. Or £100. Is that the correct symbol?
This new Callaway is much better looking than the Maverik. It is something I would actually consider putting in the bag! The SIM2 is handsome! Did they slim down the white top line for this year? Seems like it! Not sure I understand why they would get rid of the sliding weight. That’s a very useful fitting tool. In any case, they both look good and perform well! Looks like It’s going to be a great year for drivers! Thanks for the comparison!

I tried the G425 LST this week. Very forgiving and a good driver but getting used to that TSI3 sound the Ping just sounded like nails on a chalkboard. Looking hard at the fairway though...
I'm very surprised to see the Ping G425 left out of this comparison. You're earlier reviews gave me the impression that it was going to be one of the top drivers. I know I've certainly added it to my wishlist.
Tried them both. Ended up getting fitted into the ping g425 lst , which I wasn’t as huge fan of until I hit multiple shots on the screws right down the middle. The others were great as well but performance won out with the ping. It was so easy to find the center of the face with that one I had no choice but over look the tabulators. Coming from a Taylormade driver for many years I was absolutely shocked that the ping was the best performing. Time will tell, but with a full bag replacement, which was long over due, 2021 looks promising for the golf game
Really like the TSi 3, Cobra Rad and Ping 425. Just found out that a Club Champion is open in my area. Looking forward to see what a fitting will show works for me
I tried both in the low spin models yesterday, personally I can’t get any consistency or feel the club head on the sim2, but when I picked up the Epic max LS I immediately piped 10 shots in a row and it felt really familiar. Coming from an 11.5* ts2, never been a Callaway guy and I really wanted the sim but now it’s epic LS vs 425 LS when the local golf shop gets the ping demos in

Be good to do a dry ball test but use the branded premium balls with the corresponding brand of driver - e.g. Callaway Chrome with the Epic and a TP5 / pix with the Sim2. Very interesting! 🤓🤔😁

I notice the Callaway goes to left where Taylor goes right. So if I were slicing which I do, I would go with Callaway. Can you have a go with draw drivers to see which performs best.
I’m still hitting the Cobra F9...when struck well...par 4s are drivable....still working to keep it straight or draw consistently. If time for an upgrade for someone (not me)...the sim looks amazing! A bit biased cause I play p790 irons.
I’m torn as i have the Mavrik at the mo . I’m not a big fan of the sim 2 but I’m keen on the Epic Speed and also the Ping G425 . So I’m basically struck if I’m going to upgrade .
I always game a TM driver because you know that’s it’s going to look good sound good and most importantly perform well. I’m gaming an m4 at the moment would love a sim2 but I don’t feel like I need to upgrade yet
Just got fitted for a new driver today.... Between these 2... when I got the sim absolutely square... complete BOMB... but the Callaway was A LOT more consistent with distance and forgiveness AND solid average club head speed of 112-115.. taylormade was 108-113 variation... After a 2 hour fitting... I walked out with a Callaway Epic Speed, X-Stiff MMT 70g...
I will be trying the Callaway Epic this year! I just went for a fitting last night of the new Callaway Apex. I was very surprised being a 15 hc that I hit the Apex Pro amazing. I have a week before I can place the order to think about a split set or if I want to go with the Apex Pro. James, what do you think?
IF I bought any of the drivers I have seen you testing, then it would either be the Ping G425 LST or the Callaway Max. I do not like the blue for the SIM 2 drivers this year.
James, a lot of us prefer to use the 3 wood at times over the driver. Or we start the round with the 3 wood and then progress to the driver. Could you compare the new driver to the comparable 3 wood. It would be interesting to me to see the difference you get on distance and dispersion as well. Off the tee and maybe even driver off the deck. Cheers mate.
I play the Epic Speed driver complemented by a complete set of Epic Max fareway woods (3+ [13.5*], 3 [15*], 5 [18*] & 7 [21*]) No ..I don't have them ALL in my bag at all times. Course conditions & weather determine whether I'm playing woods (& which ones) &/or hybrids (Callaway Apex 21's [NOT the "Pro" models). I bag the Epic Max 3+ [13.5*] when par 5's are longer ...or ...when I know I need a draw T-shot. (Stuggle to draw the driver). I can tell you, not giving up much (15 - 20 yards) when I turn that Epic Max 13.5* over! BTW- I have the 13.5* set-up = heavy weight behind the face for lower launch, spin & added control), the others with heavy weight in the back for higher launch & spin. With the Epic Speed driver, Max fareway woods & Apex 21 hybrids, I have Supreme confidence in my "long game" from 170 (6 hybrid) out to 225 (3 wood). The low, running draw with the 3+ fareway wood gives me extra reaching distance. (No ..I'm not a "long" hitter.)
I currently game the M6 but it would be a toss up for me if looking for a new driver, I think I would get fitted to see what suits me best, great content mate
James, whilst I found the concept of testing both drivers outside, interesting. I didnt really see the point of seeing second shots or putting. As the course was empty, why didnt you hit say 3 each off each tee? That would have given a bigger scope for your greater feel, sound comments etc.
I do enjoy an out on the course head to head. I’m pleased I’m not upgrading my driver this year because they all look amazing and I think my head would explode 😂😂 I would favour the taylormade driver just because I like their products but I always go with what works for me when I get fitted

After golfing for the most part of 35 years and using both Callaway and TM drivers throughout I can honestly say for me that Callaway seems to have just a little more forgiveness on off center strikes than the TM. I haven't tried the SIM series but from what I have seen online I wouldn't mind giving TM another try.
I love to watch guys hit it long. Let's face it. We'd all like a little more distance. I'm comfortable with my 250-265 total off the tee. I really don't see myself getting enough added distance to make me spend over $500 on one club. However, if I had money to burn, I'd certainly go for it.
I won't be buying any new drivers for a few years so 2024. I have the Callaway mavrik in the bag and love it. Don't think these two would outperform my driver.
3 holes gives an (interesting) impression but picking a winner isn’t really appropriate imo. For me the distance needs to be competitive (not necessarily the longest) but most important is forgiveness/lateral dispersion. Looks/sound/feel can then override the most logical choice e.g. I don’t like the look of the B21, I don’t like the look of turbulators on Ping and the sound of last year’s Sim was very “dead” to my ears. I didn’t change last year, I play a Titleist 915 D3 HCP 15, but I will be looking to replace this year. Please don’t lose track of the already released clubs in your head to head testing e.g. TSi.
Definitely couldn’t imagine buying such a similar club just a year later for that kind of money if I was to get a driver it’s in the bag for like 3-4 years
Careful mate, keep messing around like that and you'll end up with a full Callaway bag this year lol. But if it doesn't make it into the bag, let me know if that OG#7 stroke lab needs a new home lmao
1- The short man can beat the long man if he plays his approaches well and puts well. 2- Why on earth you don't have more subs? 3- I would have to test each driver in a stock config first.
I am the same way I hit my current driver on average 200yards but I play golf one handed and can shoot in the low 80s because I hit 12-14 fairways per round
Always had a TM driver but won full bag of Callaway to be fitted as soon as possible! Can’t wait to try something new.

I am sticking with my Ping G 410 Driver. What has helped me gain distance is daily flexibility and strengthening exercises.
About to get my G410 delivered this week. I can’t wait to test it out.

James, if you were choosing between these 2, I'd go with the Sim 2 for sure because you tend to hit a fade with it (desired shot shape).

You are correct, always test on course. Simulator usually much better results.
The taylormade held a good fade the callaway went little left. I would go taylormade on this battle,but would probably stick with the Ping 🏌️♂️

How about Ping G425 max v Cobra rad
I won't be buying any new drivers for a few years so 2024. I have the Callaway mavrik in the bag and love it. Don't think these two would outperform my driver.
Waiting on the new Mizuno. Just bought the ST200 a few months ago. I'm prepared to be ticked off that the new one is even better..lol.

Can you put G425 MAX DRIVER up against TSI3 DRIVER
3 holes gives an (interesting) impression but picking a winner isn’t really appropriate imo. For me the distance needs to be competitive (not necessarily the longest) but most important is forgiveness/lateral dispersion. Looks/sound/feel can then override the most logical choice e.g. I don’t like the look of the B21, I don’t like the look of turbulators on Ping and the sound of last year’s Sim was very “dead” to my ears. I didn’t change last year, I play a Titleist 915 D3 HCP 15, but I will be looking to replace this year. Please don’t lose track of the already released clubs in your head to head testing e.g. TSi.
Sim for me, unless I win the raffle for the ts2 at my home course. At present I game the m5 and love it to bits.
I personally think the new Titleist tsi driver out preforms both of those

1- The short man can beat the long man if he plays his approaches well and puts well.
2- Why on earth you don't have more subs?
3- I would have to test each driver in a stock config first.
Price for both clubs is strong 💪 , do a comparison with with max spend £300 or less for a new driver

I am the same way I hit my current driver on average 200yards but I play golf one handed and can shoot in the low 80s because I hit 12-14 fairways per round
To be honest every shot is dependent on swing and strike and consistency and one one will generally suit someone more than another
