It had to happen: Scrum... Kanban... AND Scrumban... in the same video. Enjoy!

My development team sort of arrived at Scrumban organically. We were aware of Scrum process and aware of Kanban principles. It was kind of a natural evolution to Scrumban though we didn't call it that. We do things like continuous flow and don't release at the end of every sprint but we do things like high level planning and retrospectives. We also point every story and make sure that stories are broken down so they can be completed in a two week "sprint".
It's nice to see that someone has formalized this thought and thought about which elements of each system are important. Thanks Gary!

How do you differentiate between a framework and a methodology?

Roughly speaking, a framework tells you what to do... but not how to do it. A methodology is more prescriptive: it provides the how-to-do-it part.

Yep, good stuff. Read all those books and agree with almost all you say.
Only thing is, we don't have to leave Scrum behind to adopt Kanban - remember the significant change that happened to the Scrum Guide back in 2011? (Done no doubt for different reasons, but that change had the unintended side effect of liberating Scrum from the Batch Process method of Planning and limiting WIP.)

Agree 100% that you can (and should!) add good deal of kanban to Scrum without ever leaving it behind. But if you go all the way to Kanban (the framework), then one of the things that disappears is the Sprint. The Sprint is arguably the defining feature of Scrum: without it, I don't think we can claim to be "doing Scrum".

Not to sound silly, but Transparency, Inspection, and ... wait for it ... Adaptation are pillars of Scrum, so being able to adapt isn't solely focused on goals and/or stakeholder feedback.

Quite an informative session sir !!! Namaste and thank u from India . In one of the project, I hv used Kanban board to follow the visualize goals of the project and scrum meeting to know the team and any hiccups while chasing the goals ...Can I say that I have used Scrumban in my resume?

Great video, thanks Gary! The difference between a framework, a methodology, etc. is, I found, always confusing for people. Looking forward to seeing the next one! ;-)
