Like you I nearly went for the manfrotto but ended up with the vanguard. I couldn’t be happier with mine and also went for the aluminium. My wife bought the smaller carbon fibre and likewise she’s very happy. Really well made and reasonably priced compared to manfrotto 👍
But consider buying it with ALTA PH-32 head instead. It can tilt both axis individually, making zooming during video on-axis. It is yet possible to simulate the flexible ball head action with the flip of a knob. PS this is a heavy high quality tripod.
Nice review. I am currently looking at this tripod, but with a different head. (BH-100) Would liked to have seen good shots of legs fully extended with you standing beside it. (Center post NOT extended). That is the most stable for star and moon shots, and how I use mine most of the time. I rarely need to extend the post, any. I have a Vanguard tripod that I paid $130.00 U.S. about 25 years ago. Still going strong. Put a ball head on it about 12 years ago. I like all you can do with the legs and center post on the Alta Pro 2+. (Mine won't do any of that). Mine is Very stable, though. Longer 3 section legs, thicker legs, leg bracing; but those things also make it heavy. Sooooo, I been looking at a Sirui carbon fiber compact just for hiking. I just don't like giving up my stability. So, I think the weight won't matter much, no more often than I would go hiking with a tripod. Maybe. Why does it take years to pick out a new tripod????
I just got the same one but with the ph 32 . I can see your tripod has grey numbers on the head instead of yellow numbers. Do you have any idea why that is.
When you put the middle pole up to be sideways/horizontal, can you move the Poole to go into a circle...for panoramic views? As I noticed the older model, allowed for spinning the horizontal pole around in a circle... hope that makes sense
The answer is yes it does. As it still has that feature plus the bubble level...The only feature I wish they would have added like the older version. The ability to install the load bag between the legs.. As you could add up to 20lbs to keep the tripod stable...
Hey mate! I see this video is 2 years old. What's your review after 2 years now about this tripod. I'm planning to buy one and there are mixed reviews out there. Help me out.

I’ve been looking for one like that for ages
It's been almost a year now. Are you still happy with this tripod?

Me personally I prefer the latches vs the twist and lock. Does this model come in the latches version ?
Any major difference between altapro2 vs altopro2+??
My bad. You answered my question near the mid/end of the clip... but can this turn into a monopod? Or just a tripod? Thx
It does come out so you could but I wouldn't use it that way :)
