It's the perspective of a woman having just died floating away from her home, over wind turbines in fields, which look strange when seen from above. The references to being a witch are like a abstract way of explaining this new found ability, and why being seen surprises her, because she's not invisible, she's dead, which is also why she's naked. The second verse after the chorus is even more explicit, mentioning maggots and worms immediately, the ploughing of fields and flowers could be an oblique reference to the funeral and decay process. In the next part perhaps the narrator is even ruminating on her cause of death albeit in an abstract offhand way and combining it into the pre-existing metaphor of being in the sky (a witch on a broom) and having the blood turn into rain and falling through the sky to mix with tears on the ground. This is why the chorus deconstructs the phrase "pearl before swine" in that particular way - the pearls are a metaphor for tears and the narrator is saying don't waste your tears on me, she accepts what she is in the grander scheme of things. She's already floating away. The last verse isn't the narrator. It's someone else talking about the narrator that just left. The song is about loss.
My first exposure to this band was seeing them perform these songs live in concert. I didn't know any of their past music at the time. This song in particular is something to behold in a live setting.
@@vixen8093 Ants from Up There is probably my favorite album of all time. It single handedly reinspired me and got me writing and making music again. I love this band. I hope Issac is doing okay though.
Had the pleasure of seeing BC,NR live in Toronto the other day; absolutely beautiful. The venue was packed, and a couple times the show had to be interrupted because people overheated. The band immediately stopped as soon as they realised both times and after the second tossed out some water bottles to the crowd. They then got right back to performing and kept it lighthearted, such a masterful way to handle a live show. So wonderful they are getting more exposure. I want to bear Lewis' children.
Ok I might be talking some bs but is that the ants from up the intro at 7:36 it sounds really similar maybe the band is reminiscing on their time with Isaac idk
Naked invisible witch found by a wizard. They had sex, he left a bubble inside her. She considered making something of the casual encounter, but thought better of it. Discarded the spawn, thinks herself unworthy, a pig, don't waste your pearls... Yet somehow the spawn survives and flies to become a new magical being. This is how I imagine it but is open to other interpretation of course. It's a beautiful song with beautiful lyrics. Thank you BCNR ❤
“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces."
genuinely the band's best song post-Isaac I don't know how they're gonna top this one but knowing them they will
As long as they keep finding new influences, and they keep challenging themselves then yeah they’ll top this for sure

Was this song inspired at all by The Master and Margarita? Witches, nakedness, pigs, brooms made me think of it.
