  • The SC28 (1992) Fireblade trail-blazed the way for how modern supersports should feel and behave, with the second generation SC33 model (1996-99) boasting more power and increased engine capacity - all in a package that weighed only 172kg (dry).
Visordown takes a ride down retro lane by putting a classic 1996 Honda CBR900RR Fireblade (SC33) through the rigours of 2019 life.

No lies detected. I might mess around and buy a second (lower mileage) one. The comments about balance are understated. This bike is so light beneath you. Head turner / convo starter comments are spot on. So many people appreciate this bike, and I understand why. I stumbled on upon it while looking for a race rep F3 after someone ran into me on my Ninja 250. I did some research and knew I had to get one. Nothing but smiles, and confidence. No mechanical issues after many tens of thousands of miles. And after 6k rpm - it's a different world. Don't pass it up if you get the chance to pull the trigger on one.

Bought a 2001 929 RR and love it to death. Gig the chance at a 96 Fireblade and had to have it as well. Lots of people ask why and I tell them it's the first real super bike, a real collector.

3 years old video but the bike age’s like fine wine. Have ridden couple of these back in early 2000 when I used to run a bike service and dyno shop. Bought a nice black and grey 1996 model last fall and it immediately brought me memories from 20 years ago. Thanks for sharing this video.

My first “proper” sport bike was a 1999 Honda 929. Great bike. Served me well and taught me a lot about riding.

are u sure it was a 99, or it was a 929? because the first 929 came out in 2000, and the 99 had 919 and still carburated.

what a wonderful respectful review. i am 56 and was a cycle mechanic as a young man and have had sport bikes my whole life. its impossible to convey the nostalgia for exactly what you are talking about. your comment 'older men who were once younger men' says it all. my 2016 MV Agusta F3 675 is remarkable to me but getting on a 1986 FZ750, my 2005 Triumph Daytona 650 or this 1996 fireblade feels like home. i hope you live to feel the nostalgia you seem aware of. cheers.

Great video and nice bike. I bought mine new in 1993 and I still have it. There are very few bikes that are complete game changers but the Blade is one.😊

I had a 1998 fireblade with a D&D carbon exhaust and it was by far the best bike I've ever had. Started with a Ninja ZX6R of the same year but by the end of that summer I wanted something faster....omg was I pleased with the Fireblade.

I have a 98' 919 and when I tell you it's amazing... that's an understatement. Got it in the shop for some new fairings, brake lights, indicators... and a couple others minors fixes. Was about to get rid of it, but I just can't, man.

Got a few late eighties - mid nineties sport bikes and this Honda and first Yamaha R1 are my favourites when talking about riding. End can has been painted, 92-93 SC28 end can is the only one in black, and wont fit that model, I did try...

I have the same model but in the red/white/purple etc. They are a fantastic bike their amazing to ride and the build quality is amazing. I've had mine a few years now. It took me along time to find one this clean. I bought it off a bloke in his 60s who love it but couldn't ride it anymore and would find himself taking his VFR out instead.
I've had quite a few bikes come and go but the blades still here and i don't think I'd ever sell it if i had a choice.
If you looking at buying one of these, do it you won't regret it and its not like your gonna lose money. Just do your home work as there is a lot of thrashed shi$ters out there.

My buddy had a bike like this. It was ported in jetted with 162 horsepower at 350 pounds wet. At 120 mph it had Ram air induction and goes from 0 to 60 like a does from 120 to 180. Nothing like doing a wheelie at 145 mph. Just about killed me but it was the best time I ever had... That bike was a monster...

J W I got a 1999 model as my first motorcycle. In my complete ignorance, I was telling my friend that it was a sensible choice because some people on a liter bike forum said it was their commuter. I said it was funny how these used to be terrifying superbikes before they were reduced to getting groceries, to which he incredulously replied, “...it still is.”
Yeah, these motorcycles are scary, and that story sounds amazing. I still think my motorcycle looks great next to modern machines.
