I think many observed his at times outspoken attitude as fun, he was very humouress and witty. There's a good book about him called something like, I know I'm rude but it's fun! Such a great Consort and a true asset to the BRF. Sadly missed
My Great Uncle who was rather high up in the police in the 50's and 60's in London used to go to that the club and drank with Prince Philip on several occasions. But I will say my Great Uncle I guess today you would call him a bent copper, so I guess that's why he was friendly with the Krays and got into these clubs.
When I use to visit my grandparents who lived close to Buckingham palace, my brother and I always went to see the soldiers outside the palace. We use to wait and watch hoping to see the royal family but never did 😢. Prince Philip use to and still does remind me of my dad. Straight forward talker but never unkind. Said things he shouldn't have at times but always there for his family
