I had 10 of these assembled and primed but just didn't want to touch them because of how awkward they all looked. I followed your steps here and they are now all painted and ready for action and I'm very happy with how they turned out. Thank
That is fantastic. I'm really pleased to hear that! I was exactly the same. They sat there half assembled for ages because they just looked off. I'm really glad the video helped out!
Great video I have been doing some similar modifications on my light infantry dwarves to make them into thorin oakenshields company I made the hoods bigger on Most modded the weapons and used a frostgrave soldier back pack to make a fat belly for bombur
No wonder they can't hit the broad side of a barn! Though to be fair, I searched for images of those figures and found out it's screen accurate. Apparently many do hold them left handed!
Thanks for the video Chris. I've never thought to add simple details like this. You made it look so easy I'm tempted to have a go myself, but suspect it needs some practice!
@@AshandStoneNZ I might give it a try on some if I get another box. Your results are great, and redoing sleeves is about at my comfort level in sculpting.
Hi great video as always thanks to you Ive build a dwarf army didn't use there light infantry used em4 very cheap did a lot of conversions on them had some dwarf 2 handed weapons left over so put them on the Elvis
A twohanded weapon is a lot easier to use ambidextrously than a onehanded one. Swinging a polearm “left handed” is a big advantage against a typical right handed shield equiped warrior. The opponent will have to bring his shield awkwardly across his body to protect his right side, and his weapon arm, severely limiting his own offensive capability.
Oh there are definitely applications where you could switch hands. But that doesn't make it the normal or necessarily optimal way of using the weapon. These guys in particular are militia wielding tools rather than specialised weapons, so I expect them to use them much the same way they do on the job.
It is definitely an odd design choice to have *all* of them using their weapons/tools “left handed”. I look forward to see what you do with them. Your work on these border guards really improved them.
Cheers Lasse. Yeah, there were a few choices made in this kit that I would have done differently, but at least they are pretty straight forward to convert.
I wish I knew. They came in a cheap tool kit I got about 15 years ago. They are specifically "flush cutters" which are much sharper than standard hobby clippers, if that helps. Electronics stores often carry them.
Cheers Ethan. The "blade and spoon" tool came from this set: www.alumilite.com/accessories/4-piece-carver-set/ I'm not sure where the needle tool came from. I've had them for 15 years or so! You can get generic clay carving tools from most art stores.
This kit is so weird, it seems like no one cared about them, as this is the first video or even article I have ever seen about them, and it is not like they just came out or anything.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm not sure if it's because nobody uses Militia or Border Guard, or people just don't like the kit. It's definitely my least favourite of the Oathmark range.

you make this high skill set look easy
Lot's of practice!

That's awesome. I love the use of the backpack! That would be perfect for it!
Looking forward to the continuation of this series.
Thanks Grim. I hope it help out!
Very nice guide. Some simple fixes to make the models your own.
It doesn't take much! One of the big bonuses to plastic kits.
Years ago West End Games had Grenadier make figures for their Starwars game. The box of stormtroopers were ALL left handed!
No wonder they can't hit the broad side of a barn!

very nice , they look alot better
Cheers Bradley!

No worries Jason, I'm glad it has inspired you!
It's a fairly straight forward job, nice and simple, so it's a good place to get some practice in!
Great video, thanks
Cheers Robin, hope it helps!
I noticed some of the issues but didn't try to convert them. Your conversions are real improvements.
Cheers Ed! I just couldn't find the motivation to get them done straight off the frame.
@@AshandStoneNZ And I was too lazy to do the sculpting to fix the shoulder tabs or other awkwardness.
And fair enough! It is a lot of unnecessary effort!

Well, if you do, let me know how you get on!

Oh nice! I use a lot of the em4 bases because, as you say, they are dirt cheap, and the shipping to NZ is very reasonable! Good stuff!

Love that convertion... allthought Im a warhasmmewr dwarf lover. But what is eidgee? 8))

An eidgee? Wish I knew! 😆
What brand of fluch cutters are you using? Those things seem to be super sharp

@@AshandStoneNZ thanks friend, I have some of those gw ones but they're terrible, never buy them
Oh, yeah, I'm not surprised. I try to avoid GW hobby products. But then, I haven't had to find a replacement for mine yet!
Excellent sculpting tips. Do you have a link to the manufacturer of the tools you used?
Cheers Ethan.

Is that a Cuirass?
In the background? Not yet. I've finished the arm harness, but I'm still working on the cuirass.
