Troll- George and Olivia truly loved each other- George recorded two love song for Olivia on his final album - 'Never Get Over you' and 'Rocking Chair in Hawaii' and he wanted to spend a lot of time alone with her in 2000-2001 . Look at photos from the lstt two yeas of his life where he has his arms around Olivia and looks so happy with her. Exactly what part of getting up and fighting a maniac even though you have been very seriously stabbed when he stats attacking the woman you love and what part of fighting a man half your age and twice your weight when he is attacking the man you love do you not get? And who did George want by his side through his final illness?- Go read what Klaus Voormann and Ken Scott have written about how united George and Olivia were

Ugh that makes me so mad to hear this story. George didn’t deserve anything like that, neither did Olivia and their family. George was such a great person, you could just tell. Even though George isn’t here anymore I respect him, great man and beyond talented. He had such a great personality. I love him. This story hurts my heart, George didn’t deserve anything bad that came his way, he’s one celebrity I just love and respect, even though he’s gone now and he died a few years before I was born, I respect him and love him. George’s music helps me so much and it means the world to me that someone like him was on this earth. Such a legend. What is so incredible is unprovoked violence struck one very famous group of musicians (The Beatles) not once, but twice.
Not to justify such, but one may at least understand John Lennon having been a target of violence, as he did and said some controversial things (the "more famous than Jesus" quote, his obviously left-wing politics, etc.) that would have invited enemies. But George Harrison was the Beatle most identified with peace and spirituality.
I suppose an anti-Indian Muslim may have disliked Harrison for having identified with some Hindu teachings. But Harrison's efforts on behalf of Bangladeshi refugees should have earned him a place of respect, not contempt from anyone in that part of the world. Evidently the Harrisons' attacker was just mentally disturbed and nothing more to it than that in the way of an explanation.

    • @wishwizard100

nothing more to it than that? riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

    • @gymnastix
      @gymnastix 10 років тому +4

wishwizard100 Well, not unless reports I heard and read were inaccurate. Michael Abram, the guy who stabbed George Harrison (reports vary from between 10 and over 40 times) and attacked his wife Olivia, apparently, had a history of schizophrenia.
What I meant by my original comment is the motive for the attack of George Harrison was similar to the motives of Mark David Chapman for having killed Harrison's fellow Beatle, John Lennon, merely the delusions of an insane man, no other rational, underlying reasons for violence.
In Chapman's case, the explanation given the public for Lennon's murder was Chapman had some sort of twisted interpretation of the J.D. Salinger novel "Catcher On The Rye, as well a lingering anger about Lennon's "bigger than Jesus" statement, and a wish to impress actress Jodie Foster.
In the case of Abram, who was an untreated schizophrenic at the time he attacked Harrison, some reports alleged Abram believed Harrison and The Beatles to be witches, and he (Abram) heard secret messages in his head telling him Harrison must die.
But there was no semi-plausible, reason-based motive for the attack on Harrison, such as for political reasons, some personal disagreement, a personal jealousy, etc., that brought about interaction.
The Beatles were beyond mere celebrities, were icons of a generation whose lives are and were subject to more scrutiny than the average film actors or musicians. Of course part of this has been the manipulation of the media, as well The Beatles' publicists and record companies. But nonetheless, each Beatle has been a target for whatever dreams or delusions the public at-large cares to project on them, individually and collectively, from the moment The Beatles stepped off that airplane at John F. Kennedy Airport on February 7, 1964, and probably even a bit before. Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, and perhaps Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, as well Michael Jackson, are the only other musicians who have incurred that manner of status, at least since the latter half of the 20th Century. But really, Elvis and The Beatles are in a league of their own in this regard.
Anyway, Abram was released in July of 2002, after having finished his less than two-year term of court-ordered treatment in a "secure facility." But the conditions of Abram's release (by a U.K. review board comprised of a judge, psychiatrist and civilian) were very hush-hush. I found this in the London "Daily Mail"--"In this case, the tribunal has given a conditional discharge - the conditions, which remain confidential, are to ensure the safety and security of the public."
One must wonder what the British government was keeping secret about this guy that would be a danger to public safety and security?
Harrison's widow and son Dhani were, understandably, upset about Abram's release, not only for its occurrence but for not being informed before it happened. But the Harrisons have discovered what has troubled many in the United States for decades, after many states de-institutionalized dangerous mental patients; by the way, also the chief reason for the epidemic of homelessness since the early 1980s.
But do you know something, "wishwizard100," further about Michael Abram? Your sarcasm begs curiosity. So please, share with us all.

At Ringo and Barbara Bach's wedding in April 1981 (less than six months after John's murder) Olivia Harrison wore a pro- gun control badge in John's memory. John was murdered by a legally obtained gun from Hawaii and there was no way of denying his killer (who I refuse to name) from obtaining a gun under Hawaii law George and Olivia were able to overcome Michael Abrams through the strength of their relationship not by gun violence. If the UK had same gun laws as USA Michael Abrams would have probably been able to obtain a gun and both George and Olivia have died that night. Olivia knows the effect lack of gun control in the USA has had on John's loved ones.

Harrison was attacked in the UK by a nutter armed with a knife, probably because he wouldn't have been allowed to own a firearm even if he'd wanted to, due to his psychiatric illness; Lennon was attacked in New York by a nutter armed with a pistol loaded with hollow point bullets.
