I just love to watch your videos. I find that I am looking at quilts with a new eye and breaking down the blocks which I have never been able to do before. I finally had to start keeping a book with all of my pre-cuts listed with notes beside them of which quilt I watching when I ordered them so I can remember what I was going to do with them. If my husband actually saw by stash I would be hard pressed to explain it. :)

I love it! This looks like something even I can do. I've been using up scraps and saving bits. This is something that could be done on any scale to surround those saved triangles. I've got hst's sewn and saved, plus tiny 1 inch triangles saved from making binding. This is exciting, thank you.

like this one. It looks more complicated than it is. Must remember to start with triangle and build with logs to create block. Great way to get a colourful cloth! Thanks Jenny... you always simplify things. Other tuturials would have suggested foundation papers. Obviously this is not necessary seeing you do it

Looks so cute. I love that line! I have bought a couple pre-cuts in soul mate, i am wishing I bought more of that line. That color palette just speaks to my soul, haha "soul mate".(that was an unintentional pun) As well, as the prints. If I ever see that line again in the future, I will not hesitate to buy it. With Saturday September 16 being National Jelly Roll Day this would be a perfect quilt to make with the jelly roll purchased for a special pattern when I found it or buying the Soul Mate Roll by Amy Butler.
I'll say it again... Jenny... you "validate" my quilting style!!!! I'm always afraid to show or tell people how i sew because i break the rules and am happy with "good enough".... as you say... "finished is better than perfect".... I think i make about a lap quilt per week,, the the stash is getting used up!!! I'm 70.... this year... don't want to leave it all for my kids to have to find people to give it too...LOL

I'm in the process of stowing the blocks together and wish there was an easy way of getting a half triangles squares to match up. I wish there would have been a short tutorial on that because none of mine seem to be matching up and torn so many apart but at this point, I really don't care anymore.😢
Jenny I love your videos and I have learned so much. However, you say to set the seams and you maybe set on out of 20 and then you keep saying it and not doing it. Absolutely cracks me up!!! Have a great day.
What happens if I flip the HST and sew to the white so the color is primary instead of the white? I would like to have the color in the center square (turned the second way shown in the tutorial ). That wouldn't make a difference would it??

Hi Rachel! Unfortunately we haven't done a pattern or figured the measurements for making it larger, but it is possible to do so by adding more rows of blocks.
What a pretty quilt, Jenny! I've never tried to make a log cabin quilt but I like the twist on it with the half square triangle block and this fabric line really makes it modern. I like the aqua you used in the half square but I think I'm going to try it in red. If I buy the red in yardage will I have to pre-wash it first?
Great question! Most higher quality fabrics no longer need to be pre-washed but if you question it, it wouldn't hurt to pre-wash. Precuts, though, I do not recommend pre-washing.
The fabric I purchased is Kona Cotton - Lipstick Yardage. I've read that pre-washing Kona usually isn't necessary but with it being red I wanted to be sure.
Joyce you can also use "Color Catchers" by Shout (you know that brand of laundry stain remover, where you 'Shout it out'? They also make these washer sheets that look like dryer sheets, except you throw them in the wash). When you are ready to wash your quilt, add a color catcher to the washing machine, and you'll be surprised at how good it is at absorbing any dyes that may run out of the fabric pieces. Instead of running onto the lighter colored fabrics in your quilt, the dye is attracted to and absorbed by the color catcher. You'll know it worked when the color catcher which started out white becomes grey... and your quilt fabrics all retain their own colors. Good luck with your 'Summer Camp' quilt! ~Diana from Toronto
