Just lost my father a few hours ago. This is the first song I wanted to hear. He used to play this song all the time when I was young and I with him all the time. As I got older, careers, life, and family of my own I barely got to see him. I have so much regret and hurt for not making more time to see him. The pain is heavy right now. Love you Dad!
When my dad finally passes this is the first song I'm going to hear I'm even going to try to convince the family to play it while we take his coffin out into the hearse
I never had a father when I was born...he and my mother gave me up when I was about 2 months old to drugs and sex and other things and my whole life I never had those figures in my life and now that I’m 18 almost 19...it has never hit me harder and this song hits me so so deep cause I never got to have a father to teach me how to play catch or throw a football or any of that. I just wish I could look in his eyes and know that he loves me but he wants nothing to do with me and now I’m going off to college and he never told me one time my entire life he was proud of me nor my mother. I’m so grateful my grandmother raised me to the man I am today.
Bad things will happen to good people, and we can't choose wether they happen to us or not... But be proud of who you are and what you've accomplished. You have people who love you and are proud of you too, and I'm sure you'll be a great father to your kids, if you ever have them.
I miss my parents. Lost my dad when I wad 11 and my mom at 38. I want to live life today that would make them proud of me. And to know they would still love me. I love the verse "Bit by bit ... I realized. I realized: I looked into my father's eyes."
Yesterday august 11, my father would be 100 years old. I was driving and then I listened to this beautiful song on the radio, and I prayed for him, and I said "father I love you". And I am crying right now. God bless him.
I think the last time I heard this song was when I was 6 or 7. I was crying (over the loss of my grandfather) and my daddy stopped at a gas station to hold me in his arms when this song was playing. 12-13 years later, I'm listening to this song and reminded of my dad, whose been dead for almost 6 years now and I cry thinking of how tenderly he held me. We may not have had the best relationship, but this song reminds me of how much I actually miss him.
Sorry for your loss man, I just lost my pops on jan 6 24, he just turned 60 on New years eve, it will be 38 years until I'm 60, then the years after I have no choice but to spend without him 😢
No intention to belittle you guys at all, and it really sucks when your dad goes. We all do of course. He ain't in heaven btw, or hell for that matter. The dude will be everywhere all the time, and you can bet your bottom dollar he will not forget who you are.
Never a time when I hear this song, when my eyes don't get watery thinking of my old man, miss him greatly and literally taught me everything there is to know on how to be a Man, from working hard for what you got, to love and protect your wife and kids. Only lesson he didn't teach me is living without him, and his guidance. He prepared me to find the light at the end of the tunnel, but not live with out him, he was my Hero, my best friend, and my confidant and voice of reasoning. I hope one day my kids remember me just like the way I remember my old man. Those of you that still have your dad, cherish him and let him know how much they mean to you, everyday......
"..."My Father's Eyes" was inspired by the fact that Clapton never met his father, Edward Fryer, who died in 1985. Describing how he wishes he knew his father, the song also refers to Clapton's son Conor, who died in 1991 at age four after falling from an apartment window."

Charlie Hecht the greatest loss in life is when someone loses a parent especially when they are close. I love my dad who passed away this year. I miss you dad and pray that I see you one day.
This song hits home to my heart. My father died last Monday. I wish I could look at him one more time. Even talk to him. I'm his Jr. He even nicknamed my son 3D because he is the third generation. Dad I will always love you as I'm crying my heart out on the inside.
Lost my dad in 99.he was 52 years young.this song always makes me cry.not a day goes by i don't miss him.last month I lost my mom.so always appriciate your parents cuz one day they will be gone
you're not the only one who lost a father. I lost my father, too, last March 2017. He was my first music teacher as well. He died not because of disease or complications but from a broken heart after my mother passed away last November 2015 due to cancer. I thought I would give up playing music because I felt part of me died with him yet still, here I am... still playing music like he always plays. After he died, I asked him, "Dad, how can I carry your legacy? How can I carry you? I feel I can't go on without you." Yet, I am still here. Still playing and playing the music he played when he was still alive. I realize: I am indeed continuing his legacy but carry few things at a time. Hope this helps you a lot. You, me, and everybody else lost their fathers but life goes on. I am sure your dad is watching you and you have to keep moving. But his legacy on you, will always be there. Carry few things at a time and sooner or later, it's comforting before you know it. God bless.
Everytime I hear that song, I feel bad for all the things I've done wrong to my dad and at the same time I am so glad that he is still with me and I can show him what he means to me.
Paused at 0:15 already crying so much I want to tell him. So many emotions I wanna scream at him I wanna laugh I wanna cry with him, oh dad why did you have to leave so soon, you’re gonna finally gonna grandpa like you wanted for a while, and you’re not here physically to witness this new chapter in life I try to find you at the bottom of the bottles hoping to see you cause you loved to drink dad, why didn’t you tell us you were dying dad why did you keep it a secret from us, I beat my self up cuz there’s so many things I wish I could change growing up you left a gaping hole where my heart used to be, but i forgive you dad, please visit mom she hasn’t been the same since.
I love you always Dad, thank you for your great love for me. I will not worry about it, I will see you again in Heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ, where we can spend eternity together forever. Your youngest son Stan.
Eric never looked into his father's eyes. When he was 12yrs. old Eric found out that he was a bastard. His older sister was actually his mother. His father was a Canadian soldier who was stationed in England. Eric located his father's whereabouts in Canada, three months after his father had passed away. If you read the lyrics, you'll see that Eric was actually imagining what he would have done if he had actually met his father. Then the song takes on a very sad and haunting "what if".
This song is about Eric Clapton becoming a father and realising that the closest he ever got to looking into his father's eyes was looking into his child's eyes. I did read that somewhere....
I lost my father in 2011... Allah Knows the pain I went through... regretting every moment I could have spent with him that I blew away... shame we can't go back in time and regain so many lost opportunities... I miss you Baba... insha Allah in heaven I will see you
The story told by this song is so tragic: 1. Eric never knew his dad, but kept hoping he would one day meet him. 2. Eric gets a kid of his own, and doesn't know how to be a dad because he was never taught to. 3. Eric loses his son.
Pain is bad isn't it? There is a "but" to think about...Without Eric Clapton's pain we wouldn't have had such a tune. This tune, as I read in the comments have helped many in making their pains a little lighter or at least a little warmer, sure more "understandable"....
I also played this song at my Dad's funeral , I miss my Dad , I love this song , thanks Eric Clapton , a beautiful song to remember our fathers , God Bless .
I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my mom at 18. I never thought I would get over it, and I allowed grief to overtake me. The sadness nearly destroyed me. You will always miss him, but please enjoy the life he gave you. You'll see him again on the other side.

I missed out on the first 3 yrs of my daughter. Not bc I didn't want to but bc I didn't even know she existed. Ever since I found out that I had a daughter, nothing stopped me. Now I'm a big part of her life. She's 5 now and we're closer than ever. "I need my father's eyes" . Love you Vivian
I remember hearing this on Nash Bridges, when his father collapses from a heart attack. This song plays while he's standing over his resting father in the hospital. That memory always makes me tear up. Such a beautiful song.
From when I was born, my father was telling me that I was a mistake, and that I was not wanted. My earliest memories were of him having no patience with me, anger, and being beaten. And yet, in his last days, I was the one there who realized that his time was up. Shunned by my siblings, I could not be there for his last moments, because I had seen months of him breaking down to nothing. I actually came to this song for my daughter. Because I know that everything I never had as a kid, I give to her. I will get this song for her, and hope that in years to come, she will relate it to me.
I love this song, it makes me think of my father and how things would have been if he had not decided to walk out of my life when I was just a toddler...I guess I will never know what is like to at least look in his eyes.
You haven't lost your father he's always will love you, just as I love my father's eyes, father bless his soul please I beg of you and forgive him his transgression.
Драга, мила Анастасиа - и ја тугујем за мојим татом , увек када чујем ову песму- а прошло је толико година--Вечнаја Памјат!......Саучествујем у твојој тузи, овде, из Сербије...
I missed my father so much,,he was very tough old school man,,but he made man of me. Thank you dad for all great values you thought me,,,Love you and miss you.❤😥
Absolutely agree! We may lose our earthly father, but we have a Father in heaven who loves us continually and waiting for each of us to look into His Amazing eyes full of love & compassion. Be blessed
This is the vibe my wife and I get from it as well. All who accept Jesus as the one true God and have a relationship with him know the feeling. My love for God and his love for me is felt when I hear this song.
I cry, then i listen this song, always. I want to see my father's eyes. But he is dead. Плачу,каждый раз,когда слышу эту песню. Хочу видеть глаза своего бати. Но он уже в лучшем мире и это невозможно. Прошло много лет, а я чувствую, что не всё сказал. My father's eyes!
Dustin Hardin Sorry to hear. I'm going to be 28 in too months and thankfully my dad is not yet 53 so I can only imagine losing him at that young age. My condolences
I'm so sorry for your loss, but as long as you stay happy and remember the happy days, the pain will get easier. I'm 20 now, but my father died when I was 9, and I thought I would never be okay again. Life gets better, just keep him in your heart and he will be an angel that guides your life on a good path (:
My father is a living legend, a true hero! Decorated military man, navy captain, company CEO, self made man, enthusiastic about fishing, loving husband and greatest father. Everything I've done right in my life so far, he has influenced in a way for the better. Thank you for everything dad! May you one day proudly exclaim "That's my son" to what I have achieved. May we have a million more toasts to good things.
I heard this song on the radio the day my dad died. We were returning by car back to our town from the site where my dad had died in a road accident when the song started on the radio. I still remember that moment, it was as if someone was sending me a message from my dad. That was the worst moment in my life coz it was the moment I came to realize that my dad was gone forever...
My heart is sad for you. I learned to sing this song this week and came to you tube for lyric questions. I understand the song much better and to you I say your fathers eyes may be looking and watching through you and you will again see his loving eyes. It is divine guidance that Mr.Clapton seeks from the eyes of a person of much more wisdom and knowledge than he himself. The song, I believe , also has spiritual message that one should seek the knowledge and learn from the father as it will be told what will be seen sincerely through what was seen by eyes we have no clarity to see. Best to you.

God bless you young man. Humanity is proud of you....and our Heavenly Father is proud of you. You are the apple of His eye.
I, as your brother, am proud of you. Prophet Mohammed never saw his father, and his mother died when he was very young. He was an orphan.
Your Heavenly Father loves you. Just call on Him and He will show you his love.
I believe that somewhere in the world, there are people who feel the same emotions that I feel when I listen to masterpieces like this song.
Yes I’m from Algeria i feel the same emotion 😞
Nope, sorry

No words to describe this song... Eric Clapton is a living legend.
I simply loved this song on the first day of listening to it
"..."My Father's Eyes" was inspired by the fact that Clapton never met his father, Edward Fryer, who died in 1985. Describing how he wishes he knew his father, the song also refers to Clapton's son Conor, who died in 1991 at age four after falling from an apartment window."

My favorite Clapton song of all !!
Agree
Yes but also Tears In Heaven
The story told by this song is so tragic:
1. Eric never knew his dad, but kept hoping he would one day meet him.
2. Eric gets a kid of his own, and doesn't know how to be a dad because he was never taught to.
3. Eric loses his son.
No words.
I lost my father at the age of 12, and now, 50 years later, i realise when i hear this song, that i have missed him all these years.

😭😱

Oh my God,,i'm crying hear this song
I remember hearing this on Nash Bridges, when his father collapses from a heart attack. This song plays while he's standing over his resting father in the hospital.
That memory always makes me tear up.
Such a beautiful song.

My uncle played this when my Grandpas funeral, always hits a throat shot of emotion when I hear it.
Amazing song.
my father used to guide me trough my life, after i lost him this will help me , thank you
From when I was born, my father was telling me that I was a mistake, and that I was not wanted.
My father ... you're always in my heart.
such a wonderful song. I think of my father when I hear it. he does when I was young. clapton have me something to remember him by
I love this song, it makes me think of my father and how things would have been if he had not decided to walk out of my life when I was just a toddler...I guess I will never know what is like to at least look in his eyes.
You haven't lost your father he's always will love you, just as I love my father's eyes, father bless his soul please I beg of you and forgive him his transgression.

The great touching sound, the choir, the solo guitar, the trembling with intense feeling voice of Eric - all those make the song magical.

I LOOKED INTO THE MIRROR AND SAW THE FATHER'S EYES. :-)
I GET MY FATHER-EYES, EVERY TIME I LOOK AT THE REST OF THE POPULATION OF THIS WORLD. SO SAD!!! "ARISE, ALL!!!"
One of my favourite Clapton tracks thanks for posting.
I'm going out on a limb here to say I don't think this is a song about his estranged dad. I think he's referring to the Father. God. Jesus.
My love for God and his love for me is felt when I hear this song.
if there is not Jesus in my life I don not know how give me the strong for to go on.thank you Jesus my love.
Amen, my dear brother! Same experience.
I cry, then i listen this song, always. I want to see my father's eyes. But he is dead. Плачу,каждый раз,когда слышу эту песню. Хочу видеть глаза своего бати. Но он уже в лучшем мире и это невозможно. Прошло много лет, а я чувствую, что не всё сказал. My father's eyes!
My father passed April 12 2016. I Cry like a child, every time I hear this tune.
That's nothing to be ashamed of bro, It's okay to cry
Beautiful Clapton's song, no doubt one more emotional music from this Master!
this song was played at my dads viewing im only 11 he died
Dustin Hardin Sorry to hear. I'm going to be 28 in too months and thankfully my dad is not yet 53 so I can only imagine losing him at that young age. My condolences
I'm so sorry for your loss, but as long as you stay happy and remember the happy days, the pain will get easier. I'm 20 now, but my father died when I was 9, and I thought I would never be okay again. Life gets better, just keep him in your heart and he will be an angel that guides your life on a good path (:
my sister is 9
It's good that you have each other
thnx
My father's eyes were so mystic..but bit by bit... i realize.Missing him...no words to describe how much.
I loved my dad so much, I wish he was still here. I am grateful for the years I had with him and my mom. I hope they both rest in peace

A mi padre que hoy es su cumpleaños 91 y partió al cielo. Dios lo tenga en su gloria. EPD
I really really miss my dad so much, i love you so very much dad Su'a Fa'au'uga Kelemete 💞
Ken Read Thank you so much for you warm and supporting words!
Life bless you and your family.
