  • In this episode the ’55 Chevy gets some much deserved new parts! And guess what?!?! She runs and idles on her own again!! It’s so rewarding to hear this old girl run after so long off the road. I can’t wait to take her on that first drive… but I better not get ahead of myself! See what I went through in this video on the journey to getting her driving again.

I've not seen a video after this one, showing the new brake setup you talked about here. Hope it has a new hubs with roller bearings and not the ball's that came from GM. As you are trying to keep it as it was as much as possible, suggestion would be update the wiper from vacuum to electric. GM only used the ground to body add one to frame then to eng. Replace ALL lights with LED's as a lot easer on the generator.
Hope your sister enjoys many a happy mile in it. They can be a lot of work but also a lot of fun. I drive a 57 Sport coupe. (4 door HT) now only thing that is 57 is the body.

I had running issues with a generator .A two cycle type that would not keep running . So I added fuel stabilizer to the fuel and it took a little running time and soon It was fine. Beat rebuilding the carb . I pulled the spark after a while and it looked like I just put it in.

How about opening the old fuel pump..... normally a simple fix. Also.....never ever install a fuel tank without rust protection....that is asking for trouble

Yes sir glad you got the fuel pump squared away. Getting that new fuel tank will certainly help the reliability of the fuel system. Bear in mind that those automatic chokes on those carburetors will step up the idle when cold in order to help the engine run when it is first started and is cold. That tube from the manifold to the automatic choke coil will warm it up and the choke plate will open up as the engine warms up. If you dissect the choke and throttle linkage you may find that there is a mechanism that steps up the engine speed for cold engine warmup. Also you will see the heat riser setup on the exhaust manifold and these will freeze up and not work properly. The idea here is there is a diverter valve that directs exhaust manifold heat to the base of the carburetor for proper engine warmup. You will see this when you take the carburetor apart to install new internal parts. This is so cool in that this car is so original and does not have any missing pieces. For the restorers who would like to view a vehicle as original (minus the normal wear and tear items ) for reference purposes this vehicle is a time capsule in that respect. Keep up with your good work and this will make quite a reliable vehicle. I would hang on to the original exhaust plumbing for reference purposes if you are going to have new pipes bent up or buy a replacement system. You will have something to compare to as the exhaust looks factory. Nothing beats the way the exhaust came from the factory as to fit and performance for this car.🥸

  • @mrj-charles6383

I dont know if it has been mentioned yet. If you plan on keeping the engine original you will need to add a lead additive to the fuel. If you dont see it localy the jungle site has it. I would replace all the fuel lines also or least blow them out if metal. If rubber replace them.

Just saw your channel, and for a minute, I thought that was my old 210 but mine had a white top. I got rid of it in 1977 I'm still wondering what happened to it.
I ended up getting a Nomad in 1974 and still have it. Now I'm building another Nomad our of a 2 door 210 wagon. Yes, I'm still into 55s since I was born in 55.
