I am an ELCA Lutheran living in South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (April 11), we sang this as the Hymn of the Day. It is #366 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship. By the way, my cousin got married at Blessed Sacrament Catholic in Charleston and his daughter at Summerland Chapel on the campus of The Citadel.
Looks like heaven to me. "Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! 1 The strife is o'er, the battle done; the victory of life is won; the song of triumph has begun: Alleluia! The powers of death have done their worst, but Christ their legions hath dispersed; let shouts of holy joy outburst: Alleluia!
My father died in June 2010; we went to Mass every Sunday together for years. To this day, I still have a really hard time in Mass. Sometimes it hits me, other times I am okay. I continue to attend Mass with my mom; it still hurts, but you have to give people credit for trying.
Listen how the ORGANIST after each stanza changes the Organ registration, and shades his playing. Organist take note. Excellent! This is how its suppose to be done. God give us trained Organist and great Organ in the church please. Amen!
@@Chesterbarnes1 no he went to California. I was just at the Basilica recently. The audio on this video doesn't really do it justice. It sounds great in person
I'm feelin' ya, TypesALot -- for many years my Mother and I attended Easter Services at St. Mark's cathedral in Seattle, WA. After she died in 2001, I just could not make myself go there again, and even hearing this other-wise magnificent hymn would bring me to tears. Let's just imagine your Dad and my Mom enjoying Easter where Jesus Himself directs a fantastic choir!
What a beautiful and fine looking instrument. Sounds like it has a very full registration and speaks very well into the body of the church. Your lucky to have it!
3.The three sad days are quickly sped; he rises glorious from the dead; all glory to our risen Head! Alleluia! 4.Lord, by the stripes which wounded thee, from death's dread sting thy servants free, that we may live, and sing to thee: Alleluia!
One of my favorite Easter hymns (sung at my paternal grandmother's funeral in a high Episcopal church) and so very appropriate for a requiem mass on All Souls' Day. The alleluia has long been an integral part of the funeral liturgy of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Good to see it being sung in a Catholic Church as well. Great sounding organ too!
So it is appropriate for a funeral. I’m RC and while reading my Magnificat evening prayers , they used this tune. In my mind seemed very beautiful for a funeral
A friend of mine lost her son while he was in college at the age of about 20 because of a car accident. She told me it was very difficult for her to go to our church's 11:00 service, because she could visualize her son as an acolyte carrying the cross... However, she could attend services at another church without any excess emotion... Yes, we must do our best not to judge others until we know all aspects of an individual's particular situation... A wonderful rendition of this hymn...
What a beautiful thought! I will do that. I still find myself getting choked up with certain songs at Mass even now. Thanks a lot, Thomas. I hope the passage of time makes things a little bit easier for you.
The victory God gave us through Jesus is incomparable, Thank you Jesus!!!
We sang this as the recessional today. It was our pastor's last Mass at the parish and we sang all of her favorites.

Forever powerful hymn! Glory to God
A better place. Much love to Victor.
A hymn that calms my spirit

Such a beautiful hymn.
I adore this easter hymn.

mortonbelcher What is his name? I will be praying for you, your friend, her family, and her son.
@jimmy massengill His name is Bruce F. Thank you for your concern.
Pray to St. Jude and God, they will help, I don't talk to my mom or dad for reasons and my family hate me for becoming Catholic, God Bless
I am sorry for that but I am so happy you are a Catholic!!!
This so greatly exemplifies the majesty of a pipe organ.
What a beautiful thought! I will do that. I still find myself getting choked up with certain songs at Mass even now. Thanks a lot, Thomas. I hope the passage of time makes things a little bit easier for you.
Great choirmaster and organ......wow
so grand!!!! very nice.
looks very similiar to a church that I grew up going to , we also had a balcony...I played the organ, love the sound of a pipe organ.
Again!!! I listen to this frequently. Nostalgia! !
I also noticed the guy in green on the left. It seems from his posture that he is totally disconnected from the service.
Sung at the funeral of the late King-Emperor George VI, in 1952.
@VisitStPeters Sorry I didn't mean any disrespect. I'm sorry. Perhaps the beautiful music did touch his soul.
Beautiful, though some distortion in the sound, but well done and this looks a lovely church, and the organist is very accomplished !
Probably due to the camera plus the room's acoustics.
