  • Sep/Oct 2023 - We are a team of 4 eagerly waiting for our trip to Sri Lanka. Kandy, the first city to visit in our trip. We landed in Colombo Airport early morning. After the currency exchange and local SIM purchase, we headed to Kandy in a vehicle arranged by our host at Kandy. The van charge was LKR 24,000 from Colombo airport to Kandy.
We stayed at a homestay called Feel Home. We had 2 rooms booked for 4 of us. Feel Home is a beautiful accommodation, and the host Fazly indeed made us feel home. He gave us lot of information about Kandy, Sri Lanka in general and how he happened to start this homestay Feel Home. We all enjoyed the chit-chat with him.
We had just one afternoon to visit Kandy and one night stay at Feel Home. After freshup, we left to see Kandy. Our host helped us with a Tuk Tuk (Three-Wheeler Vehicle) to go around and see Kandy attractions.
Our 1st stop was Royal Botanical Garden. On the way, we picked up something for lunch and had a small picnic at the garden lawn. We enjoyed the walk around the garden and beautiful flowers. It is a huge garden, we needed a full afternoon. But as we had limited time, we had to rush and leave quickly. The garden has an entry fee of LKR 3000 per person.
After the garden, we visited Sri Maha Bodhi Temple. The temple is located on top of a hill named Bahirawakanda. Tuk Tuk can take you up there. And then few steps to climb. There is a large sitting Budha Statue in meditation pose. Place is very calm and quiet, perfect for some meditation time. You will have a beautiful panaromic view of Kandy city from here. The temple has an entry fee of LKR 300 per person.
Next we went to Kandy Lake and took a nice evening walk around the lake. It is a beautiful lake at the heart of Kandy city.
Right next to the lake is Temple of Sacred Tooth Relic. The temple is believed to house a sacred tooth relic of Buddha. It is a big temple complex. One can learn about the Buddha's tooth relic and also Buddhism in Sri Lanka. There was an evening ritual scheduled at 630 pm. Crowd was getting bigger and bigger as the time reached for this ceremony. Unfortunately we could not witness the ceremony, due to the growing crowd and as we were too tired we headed out. On the way out, thoroughly enjoyed the flower market with full of fresh and beautiful flowers waiting to be offered to Lord Buddha. Tooth relic temple has an entry fee of LKR 1500 per person.
After experiencing the spiritual atmosphere at the temple, we headed to Balaji Dosai for dinner.
After the dinner our Tuk Tuk dropped us back to our home stay, Feel Home.
Next day morning, though it was very short, with full of memories from Kandy we headed to our next stop, Ella. We bid good-bye to Kandy and our beloved host Fazly after enjoying the yummy sweet dumplings, Lavaria offered by him. He also arranged us a vehicle for our journey ahead.
Thank you for watching the video and reading our experience at Kandy. Do subscribe for more of my travel experiences.
    Our next stop is Ella.
