Failing a Friend

- The plaintiff says he loaned the defendant money over the course of a few years, but now his friend is not paying anything back, so he’s suing. The defendant says the money was a gift, and he claims he’s never met the plaintiff in person, only online.

I wish I had a friend like him only thing I would do differently is pay him back and appreciate his kindness!☺️
hush. u would fly to mars and neva come back buyin up martian property. hush.
Yep, I could never take $3,000 as a gift..would save up and repay them in increments of $500, unless they said, No..and wouldnt take it..at least make an attempt man..I think you took advantage.
unbelieavable the one guy uses the other I have a friend like that , he will whine about about he has no money and can't do anything
The defendant probably never has money. But it was definitely a gift. He needs an agreement prior to lending the money, if he wants it back.
Even the plaintiff said he wanted him to pay him back in gaming favours (he said that here), although he didn't specify that beforehand either. He actually did the exact opposite, saying it was socialism.
Hearing JM reading the text messages was hilarious. I could not stop laughing 😂
Dat socialism bruh😂😂😂
Some of these comments come down on them for gaming, but most folks spend literal hours on social media across apps, so stop throwing stones. These two seemed like nice guys. The defendant was straightforward about his circumstances and the plaintiff was trying to be a good, supportive friend. I personally think the new chic is in the plaintiff's ear and is influencing a lot of this. What the defendant said was a bad joke but it could have been worked through. When that girl is gone, they'll probably make amends.
IT wasn't even a joke he said, the plaintiff backtracked on it. They were giving advice about asian culture. A lot of gamers study it or have at least an interest in it. Like Singapore is notorious for pickpockets at airports because they know they can get away with it because the tourists can't usually speak the language thus making it easier for them to escape while they struggle with the language barrier.
I agree with you social media is unhealthy and addicting I’m glad some years ago I picked up fishing as a hobby it gets me outdoors and it’s way healthier
Men, especially with gaming, will never have a problem with each other. There are whole support communities on social media where players of games have fun, go to each other's house or meet up in an agreed place, and game to their hearts content, no problem. Whenever you involved a woman, girlfriend, or even female cousin or sister is involved, there is going to be a problem! It never fails! 😖

Oooh good point on the social media!
These were gifts. He liked bragging about his stash and then cried for it back, after his feelings were hurt. Good grief.
100%
I can't get over knowing someone for 15 years and never seeing their face until today. That's shocking to me.
Right? At leaast face chat or something!
Exactly. I have online friends too but we see pictures, video, or video chat at some point
I have had a pen pal since 1992, never met him in person and now we email...
In the early 2000s when Xbox live first became a thing and before Instagram, Twitter etc, I made quite a few good friends that to this day I've never seen
Never received or loaned money to them tho. Just good memories of time we'll spent
“Half their lives playing video games” SHADE
Lmfao
As a child of yahoo chat rooms , I can get how they were friends for 16 years. Few people have constants in their lives and they need to squash this ish.
I am the aol chat rooms generation!
I too grew up in irc etc chatrooms and miss alot of my old friends... I never knew their real names or anything, full names at least.. From all over the world.. we talked for years.. I wish I knew who they were now.
@@kristineo2926 I was part if a big group of animorph fans, it started as a love of the book series but turned into a community. As a teen my mom had a terminal illness, between that and coming out as a teen, those community boards and chat room literally saved my my life from own hand. Lost contact with all of them sadly after being forced to live with an abusive sister who believed in isolation for teenagers from friends.
I think this young man is exceptionally generous. His girlfriend recognizes that. And she's not trying to share his wallet with anyone else. He was not manipulated he just has financial obligations to his girlfriend and she's tightening up his spending
I think this is spot on
Bingo!
You have no idea if this girlfriend of his is that concerned about his money.
Tightening up his spending so that he can travel….I bet he’s not going on his own. For his sake, I hope she’s really in love with him because otherwise she might end up taking hi to the cleaners
Absolutely 1 million % correct, great call 👍
If he realized that he offended his friend he should have just apologized and just learn from his mistake.
Wait he loaned an "online" friend 4 grand? What are people thinking?
My thoughts exactly. I dont loan people money I know personally outside of family, and not so much to them either.
I don't think they ARE thinking!
Not loans! Gifts! 🤑🤑 where can I find friends like that!?
I love gaming online and I had a lot of online friends. I never had any of them give me change let alone $4,000. Maybe I met the wrong friends lol.
Lmao dude you know how may people give strangers tons of cash on the basis they think it makes sence?
That’s literally the game play of phone scam calls….is it really that hard to believe?
When judge milian says that’s socialism BRUH I died laughing 😂
"That's socializm, bruh..." 🤣
The plaintiff is extremely immature. He wants to blame the defendant for everything. He can't even handle constructive criticism. The Defendant is better off without him.
true that!!
Judge you're right! Human contact is precious😇
If he want's to throw his 'stacks' in a direction... please, by all means GIFT me those stacks. lol
Why is a grown man giving another grown man money in any regard without expecting certain spoken or unspoken favors in return ? The entire relationship between them just seems truly weird to me 💯
I couldn't have said it any better...i did say in the first 3 mins of this case that it was definitely an odd one...
You know what's weird to me? People who write with absolutely no punctuation whatsoever. 🤔
Oh Jesuth Christhe!!

One of my bosses told me “when you give money to a friend don’t expect it back but if it’s a loan always put it in writing.
So it's not your friends In the beginning
Why does it always mean someone is asking for money when they are telling their friends their problems. Isn't that part of being a friend? Doesn't mean they're asking for money maybe just venting to a friend.
This makes me feel like JM is the principle in high school with this case
I feel so bad for both these guys. The defendant didn’t ask for the money, he felt guilty & grateful for the money. The Plaintiff was trying to be a good friend and help him out. But when it comes down to it, they were gifts. The defendant didn’t ask for it. When he felt guilty, he said “I’m gonna have to try and pay this back”, you can tell he didn’t feel comfortable taking it but wasn’t in a position to decline it either. I hope they can become friends again.
HA! You felt like you were manipulated into giving him money?! You were literally sending it to him without him even knowing you were gonna send it!! Grow up! He can thank the gf for pushing him into this lawsuit.
Seems like the Plaintiff was trying to buy a friend….
Omg... Kevin sounds like a small child. Jordan seems so sweet and kind. Jordan never once asked for money, Kevin literally just threw money at him and now wants it back. It would be concerning to his future friends, beware... if he gives u anything then gets his little boy feelings hurt he will sue you.
Jordon needs to grow up and get a job that's makes more than 700 dollars a month
definitely a gift. the fact he kind of backtracked and took him to court suddenly is weird all because of his girlfriend or something.. got in between that is bad. thats coming from a fellow gamer.
I have nurtured some really long and great friendships with people I met online playing video games. I am a gamer, a professional in my field, a parent and a husband, I only put gamer 1st because people like to like down on us and is the topic of this conversation. Just because you play video games does not mean you can be successful, everything in moderation of course.
It's 2022 and people are becoming MILLIONAIRES because they're gamers. Totally agree. People should understand there's a way to monetize anything and everything in the internet age.
@@WesleyLindsey and even beyond the fact that you can make money off of gaming... Why give a shit that people do things that make them happy? What is so bad about being an adult and having a hobby or something to do that isn't just grinding themselves to death with work?
I have met some of my greatest friends as well as the love of my life through gaming. Yes its a hobby but many people share a bond over hobbies...idk why gaming still has such a negative connection.
@@church348 I agree. I get it maybe 20 years ago were gaming didn’t seem as lucrative but nowadays there’s no reason to shame it.
I still play my Super Nintendo I'm nearly 40. But I also work and do gardening. It's all good 😀
"I'm not racist. Thank you very much" that cracked me up, that was good
me: immediately goes to the comments to see what mental gymnastics Adrian prince will go through to make this about women.
The friendship ended when plantiff got a girlfriend. That was his logic. AHAHAHAHA.
As an internet kid that has made tons of great friends via the internet, I'm SURE the collapse of their friendship could have been avoided if there was some level of face-to-face interaction. They both took things way too personally.
it wasn't that. The plaintiff was lying at times because even he knew how ridiculous it was. Such as he claimed the incident that broke them was the defendant being racist to his girlfriend, but then he changed it to what the defendant said.
The plaintiff just realized that whatever ideology he was sucking in nobody cared about so he had to lie about it. saying what sort of things to look out for when traveling to a different country is not racist.
Nah, either way....once dude got a Bae.....things were bound to change.
This was an extension of teenage boys with no 🐈 around until one of them FINALLY got a real love girl, to play with.
A chick, who rightfully asked 'Wait, you're sending your loser 'virtual friend' THOUSANDS of dollars?'
That is ridiculous and I'm not 'sexing' any idiot dumb enough to do that. Simple as that, no mystery....his girl start asking grown-up questions and dude start seeing how ''he' was 'funding' aka 'buying' a friendship.
Judge was right, they were loans....he said it perfectly upfront 'I wanted to make SURE he would play and I'd have a playmate' so he Sugar Daddy'd him like a chick....until dude actually got a chick.
Multiple things can be true at the same thing, guys. You guys bring up valid points and my point still stands. I still believe their biggest issue “the racist incident” could’ve been handled if there was some face time thrown into the equation
Sounds like a gift.
I am old and I have to say to my fellow old people. Stop thinking of things from your point of view as being the only legitimate point of view. Friendship needs no physical contact to be a strong friendship. Stop stigmatizing people for playing video games when you watch television for hours and see no problem with it. Stop attacking people with your boomer anger.
I had the same thought! I remember having pen pals when I was a kid... Not much different from gamer friends you don't meet.
Ain’t never seen his face but gave him money . Where do y’all find these people?
For real guys like this only have sex with virtual reality helmets
Right? I need someone like that lmao
I wonder as well. Lol
What’s the word that Judge Mathis used? Dry begging. The defendant was dry begging and the plaintiff was feeding into it. What a shame!!
If I was the plaintiff, I would have stop playing with him because every time they play together the defendant mention he was broke or need money
I think he’s an exceptional person . This friend was his charity case . I think his girlfriend made him feel guilty and taken advantage of . Thats where the lawsuit comes from .
You could defer your student loans or you could do income based payments.
Exactly!
It sounds to me like he never had friends in real life and maybe he was having some hard times mentally a befriended a guy online . I am guilty of paying for everything for my friends and giving them monies for everything and then I soon see that they begin to expect me to pay for everything . I I turn get hurt and just cut the friendship altogether . Then they realize it start trying to offer me things just to get back in my good graces and then the old pattern of me paying returns . This guy just needs to find a true friend and stop trying to buy one . It never works , trust me 38 years of experience.
Helping a friend is taking them to a movie, getting them food. NOT loaning them almost 5k
My friend loan me over 20Gs
@@ericedwards2853 does your friend need more friends?
Well its all relative, if you only make like 40/50k a year then yeah gifting someone 5k is a huge deal but what if someone was make 500k a year, then gifting them 5k isnt as big a deal. They didnt say how much this guy was making but he claiming to be making "fat stacks" and is going to travel the world at 31, I have a feeling he isnt going to miss that 5k
@@politicalmayhem1080 he’s suing his broke friend for 5k, so what I said sounds pretty appropriate.
Actually, loaning them money would be "helping" them, while the movie and food thing would be "treating" them.
The defendant looks exactly how I’ve imagined ab unemployed gamer to look
this is an odd case...
Sad to see a long-term friendship end this way 💔
That's the real tragedy
i dont know if this is really a friendship tbh
He had a very giving kind heart but equally very easily offended and his gf I’m sure feels great he cares about her feelings but she also should’ve told him not to sue because it’s ridiculous.
He was trying to buy his friendship
@@Nevaeh1 They we’re friends for a long time before that so I’m not too sure about that.
$3,000? AND he thinks it's a gift??? From a guy he's never met? what...it IS a one way street!! the defendant is a real taker.
Dude owes the 3K. The only thing ridiculous about his student loans is that he games more than work. He borrowed the money and it’s his responsibility to pay them back. Get a second part time job. Grow up, man.
he didn't borrow the money... was it ever in writing?? no. the plaintiff clearly buys his friendships and then when they don't agree with him or something minuscule happens he sues. very weird energy. maybe next time he should think before giving someone who he's never seen 3k. dude shoulda just taken the L and moved along. now he's taking L's in the comments. The best part is that the defendant got MORE money from this whole situation. hahaha y'all can stay mad!!(:
ALSO maybe don't give 3k to someone you KNOW wont be able to pay you back.....
@@v_spoopy if he worked more than he played, he wouldn’t be in such financial straights to pay his obligations. Yes, it was dumb to send a fiscal illiterate money. This guy needed it and yet feels so entitled that he has no qualms about being a taker and paying back people who helped him. When people start blaming their debt on others “oh those ridiculous student loans” it shows his lack of maturity and accountability. They are perfect for each other. One buys friendship to control people and the other is a leeching sloth that uses and lived off others.
@@thelmadickinson6811 at the end of the day the plaintiff is a dumb F**k and thats really all there is to it. but thank you for that paragraph I didn't read lol. I know you spend all day on youtube leaving unnecessary comments thelma. good luck with that!! have a great day!!
well, at least the plaintiff will have a lot more money without a friend like that....
I have more friends online than in person. Might seem weird but your online friends don't require scheduling anything. Just chat when you can. Not as much drama with online friends.
I find it ironic that the judge has repeatedly spoken with clear condescension toward gamers. People have made millions through gaming professionally. Shame a long friendship ended.
He was essentially buying someone to play with him. It's on the same level as a man buying gifts and paying for things for a lady so she will sleep with him
Yeah, this was definitely a gift. The guy only wants the money back because they aren't speaking any longer. It's unfortunate but a gift is a gift not a loan.
The game was a gift but the big money for the student loan was intentional. The Plaintiff wouldn't know about it if the defendant was talking about it to him. That should be paid back.
He shouldn't pay him back. Yes the dependent provbly told him about his struggles but in the text the plaintiff messages the defendant first to ask him about his money issues and then sent him the money without the defendant asking
I think these 2 gamers played a game on us and people's court.
Very clever boys.
I don't believe the plaintiff gave him $5,000.
So they exchanged what looks like dozens if not hundreds text messages about it over a period of _years_ to set up a fake case in the one in a million chance they made it on the people's court?? 🤔 🤷♂️ Talk about a long con!! 🤦♂️
OMG THIS GUY LEGIT SUED THIS GUY BECAUSE HE STOPPED PLAYING WITH HIM TF
Hmm why did he think now after all this he wanted his money I don't understand this at all 🙄

Online only friends... Not knocking it, I have some, but most are just ugh. So easy to lie, and the sad thing is, how many believe the lies.
The guy who gave him money seems like a good friend the other guy should have been more sensitive to his friends feeling
Good decision!!!!!!
Online friends for 15 years? Wow
I have online friends who live in many parts of the world. I’ve seen pictures of them. We’ve never met in person, nor have I ever sent them money. My friend from Sweden sent me a Swedish IKEA magazine once. 😂
One of the only times I'm convinced it was a gift over a loan.
There's nothing wrong with having friends online. But if you're going to send money, and you WANT IT BACK, you have to make sure that it's stated SOMEWHERE ~*CLEARLY*~.
Listening to the judge reading their messages is hilarious. To me it seems like they were genuinely friends and he sent money without being even asked and not the GF wants the money spent on her
It's sweet that they were both more upset about the racism than the money to be honest. I wonder if the girlfriend has been suggesting that he's being manipulated?
That's socialism bruh!
I love Judge Millian. 😀
Paying for friendship is never a good idea
Watching these court cases, I’ve come to realize that a lot of people are cut *completely* different than I am. I was raised with the ideology of “”Neither a borrower nor a lender be”, and I have never, ever, EVER asked a friend for money. I wouldn’t even feel right allowing someone to give me money like that. Stand on your own two feet, and even if it wasn’t a loan, you should feel like crap letting another man support your lazy, game-playing arse.
I wouldn't have felt comfortable accepting the $3,000 money for the student loan.
“I’m not a racist! All my friends who make the same racist jokes that I have made have never called me a racist!”
Here's a thought. Never ever loan anybody money. If you just give it to them, then there is no expectation of a return! Loan=loss of friend & money, win=negative loss.
the guy can just make a simple game for roblux or even mobile devices no reason for him to say he has no job aside from expecting to be given a job. guessing this game was WoW. plaintiff should be glad this friendship ended before he gives to many $$. and i'm guessing the plaintiff would probably have not even looked for the $$ if the defendant finally decided to grow up. funny commentators about gaming time if they add up all their tic/toc facebook time they would realize they spend more time than people gaming.
It is like he is trying to buy his friends and when he doesn’t want to be friendly anymore he wants his money back
Good point
It’s so crazy that with technology you can have a friend for over 15 yrs and have never met them 😮
Tis love, Tis Love! The defendant wanted to play more than video games with the plaintiff!
hey everyone be safe hope all is doing well today 😄
...The Plaintiff should have gone on Judge Mathis because he's the only TV Court Judge who recognizes 'dry begging' as a form of manipulation. ...But Judge Mathis has never applied that theory to anything but a romantic relationship.
He looks like Chastity Bono. And dude, get a job McDonalds pays about $18 an hour.
plaintiff in the end admitted to being a massive liar.
"He was being racist to my chinese girlfriend"
and at the end
"I just couldn't stand he wasn't being supportive of my life decision to travel the world"
WHICH IS IT BUDDY? You lied to Millian because you thought it'd give you a better case if she thought he said something racist to your gf. He did not. You just adopted woke ideology and didn't like he said that some countries have things to look out for and that's absolutely true.
No sympathy for plaintiff.
I work and go to school full time, and stream video games. Instead of going out to parties and what not I like to play my game and talk to my friends. Everybody has their own hobby, stop shaming us gamers. I grew up playing videos games so I’m going to continue to grow up playing video games 😘
There’s some serious lack of social awareness on both sides. Wouldn’t be surprised if there was neurodivergence. I feel bad because I don’t think either meant harm, but just didn’t really get it. Sad.
Baby goes, BooHoo Poor me. Grow up dude you bought stuff for a friend. Friends can be unsupportive and remain a friend just don't tear a friend down personally when you disagree. Friends can agree to disagree
So no one's going to talk about how the plaintiff looks like Freddie Highmore when he plays as Shaun Murphy
If you want to be repaid, you need to make an agreement before you give the person the money. And if they're going to repay you when they get their taxes back, make sure you clarify that even if they don't get it for some reason, they still owe you the money, and the money will be due at that point.
People would save themselves a lot of time and money if they would just research what you can sue for, successfully, and what you can't.
His friend made a joke, he's not racist. People are such babies 👶
Lmao these the type of dudes who make it in life. 😝
Plaintiff sounds like he was bribing him forcing him to game with ‘‘em then all of a sudden plaintiff gets a gf and wants to go about his ways traveling? Of course he ain’t gonna support you after you forced him to do what you wanna do. TF outta here.
I would have asked the plaintiff if his girlfriend started this ……,
Aww I have a heart for these two. Kevin is probably on the spectrum and sounds incredibly generous and equally hurt. I hope they become friends again and the defendant can give him a little cash if he has it down the road
Good lord people work if you need money.
Doing a hard day's work for a paycheck is becoming a foreign concept to people. Why slave away when you can scam other people for money or get government handouts?
For real! So many different court shows but same theme of INSTEAD OF getting any job you can or a 2nd job, borrow money from someone. On Judge Mathis it goes further to INSTEAD of getting a prepaid phone I'm going to put my name on my friend's phone plan, cosign on a car loan, have my friend pay my utility bill. 😳😳😳😳
Hey guys let it go and get back to the grind!!!
This whole episode made me giggle, gamers are secretly good comedians (some of the time)
I have friends from the internet that ive known for over 20 yrs and my family lost our pets, our home and vehicle in 2011 because of Hurricane Irene....2 of my friends sent us money and a phone to use while we were homeless for 55 days...Once we found a place a group of my internet friends put together a goodie box with food and gift cards...I asked if they wanted me to pay them back they all sent me a card stating it was a gift and they were all glad my family were alive and they helped us out etc....Matter of fact the friend from BC that wired money to our account asked how much we got and she and her husband were mad...it wasnt even close to what they wired to us because of currency rates etc...I was like its ok we are so thankful that you sent it...We never asked for anything cause were not like that....Im still friends with all of them but 2 because they passed away....I never met them in person but we video chatted on yahoo every day...
We all know what happened here. Got himself a first taste and lost his mind.
I’m willing to bet the defendant has never traveled internationally, and yet, he shares his wisdom about the dangers of traveling to asian countries. Super helpful I’m sure🤣😂😅

This is the first time I’ve noticed Doug speak empathetic to the defendant.
Even if someone 'gave' you a gift, one day you should also 'pay it forward' and make a kind gesture to someone else in need, and if that person happens to be the person that 'gave' you the money, then why not just pay it back and be grateful that he helped you out, even if temporarily...
He’s broke.. he never had any money lmao .. you missed that..
I agree it wasn't a loan. But the comments were racist.
this should have been on doctor phil lol
I used to be very anti video games, but I did not hate them…. However I have changed that idea 💡. It’s amazing how people make money playing games and streaming here on UA-cam.
The plaintiff wanted a sugar baby. He balked when he saw his face.
It seems like the plaintiff gifted all the money he's given. The defendant never asked for any of the money. They have been friends for 15 years, I'm sure they've talked about good times and hardships, that's just being friends after that long. It would have been a great gesture had the plaintiff just let this stay the way it was, a bunch of gifts to help a friend. I think this lawsuit came about because the plaintiff's girlfriend does not like their friendship and told him to end it. Nothing else makes sense🤷🏾♀️.
I’m sorry he can’t take advantage of his generosity if he never actually asked for anything l he’s takes freely given money into a lawsuit because their not friends anymore
