      A trick I learned is that if you put a couple of layers of masking tape (or similar) on the back of the ruler, this raises it slightly off the paper and ink/paint/marker doesn't then bleed under it.

  • @RedRidinghoodK5

    In my experience thus far, toned paper is much more effective when using higher quality colored pencils (I use prisma), conté pastel pencils, etc. than with markers. Also oil pastels work well. But my preference is for the colored pencils. Just my input.

    • @andievecchione9315
      @andievecchione9315 4 роки тому +1

      I just watched this and was thinking the same thing. Colored pencils or maybe pastel pencils might have worked better. With pastel pencils, I usually found the ones I used were much harder and less messy than stick pastels, so even though I seem to recall you don't like pastels, the pencil version might work for you. Don't forget the workable fixative to keep things from smudging and a final coat of fixative.

      DrawingWiffWaffles Out of the two, I really like the look of toned grey paper because it has a nice cool tone to it and it looks really nice with my pencil art. If you’re looking into buying one, I have a sketchbook tour posted and you can skip through it to see what art on one looks like. Toned tan paper looks really nice too and it makes me want to draw a lot of happy things because of it’s warm tone.

    I really like this picture! Toned paper is so cool! But it definitely takes getting used to. Art Ala Carte has a character design video series where she uses toned paper. I think the thing that really helps her get good contrast is using copics as a base and then coloured pencils overtop. :)

    I've been painting for so many years, and in/with so many different mediums that I keep forgetting what comes natural now. Like the incident with the ruler. I would never have done that mistake today, and it's so obvious that it's a bad idea. But then I remember that I made that mistake some odd years ago, and it makes me appreciate how far I've come, and all the mistakes I've made and learned from, that now resides in the back of my mind. Great vid!

    I haven't watched the whole video yet, but I'm kinda yelling at my screen. If you wanted to make this really bright and contrasty, you should have used colored pencils! The markers are faded because that's just their nature. ^^

    Watching your process always inspires me. Even when you struggle, you keep trekking on. I love it!! One day I'm gonna have that same determination when I draw lol ❤️❤️

    Absolutely gorgeous regardless of any of the mistakes. Besides, those added character and made the drawing even better :D

    Hey Rin! I just got that very same sketchbook the other day, so I'm taking some inspiration from you to design my cover.

    I don't normally design a cover for my sketchbooks. I almost did with my current sketchbook but I had troubles with it so I decided to drop it. Sadly, my cover on my sketchbook is falling apart from traveling back and forth taking it to work. I do love your cover. I love Art Nouveau style.
