As an Eastern-European, I can tell you it isn't stunning to live in these kind of places, quiet the opposite.
You have no privacy, you don't have your own garden, you have to listen to neighbors flushing the toilet or arguing, etc.

As a resident of Eastern Europe living in a cottage, I would say that it is better to live in a multi-storey building. Cottages have a lot of disadvantages too. One of them is loneliness. Even if you have a wife, your children will be lonely.

I live in a condominium myself (although this is a small building with 5 apartments in a quite street with gardens), I would be happy in a proper house on my own property and I could do whatever I want.
