I accidently played him as a high dps Bruiser wanting to go Family/Pit fighter recently, slapped a bunch of items like Bloodthirster on him with the intention on putting them on Vi later. Little did I know, Violet and Vander falcon-punched all foes into oblivion.
I ended up not using Vi at all. Despite not even hitting the augment, Vander just dominated the lobby all round. Just an S Tier Unit all round because u can play him Tank and AD and he does both very well.
You honestly don't have to bother with the augment imo, yea the increased dmg and knockback is super fun but having increased castingtime and removed dmg reduction as a downside I rather go with something else usually.
And if you get pandoras bench and surround Vander with a mostly maxed out 1-2 cost army it's ggwp
