When Onana in Inter, he was decent because he is constantly protected by Bastoni and Acerbi. And Inter played deeper defense compared to MU.
Onana is known as world class sweeper keeper like Ederson, but both of them are not for teams who are depending too much on their keepers too much like Man United who loses possession easily with bad midfield and always facing injury crisis with their best defenders. De Gea is much worser especially his ball distribution that is causing to mistakes or goal but his shot stopping is world class while Onana is world class at ball distribution, but average shot stopper.
@@saru4013this what y’all get for sacking degea. He was one of the few little things man united had that were actually decent. Now y’all getting fucked 😂
@@saru4013 It's actually harder for a GK to play for a team that are rarely under attack. They need to keep a high level of concentration whilst hardly do anything throughout the game. They may not need to make as much saves as GKs from lower teams do, but those saves will be critical saves. That's why the likes of Carson, Mignolet, Leno, etc who played really well for midtable teams, often will have difficulties when they play for more dominant teams.
As for Onana's career at Man United, so far he has been poor at both shot stopping AND ball distribution.
@@torito880 ....Go and watch de geas miskates.
But if you look at Onana's performances and numbers for Inter, he still made a lot of good and important saves. It came down to Onana and the defence, not just the defence.
The trouble with Onana is : His movement and reflexes seems very sluggish for a top tier goalkeeper. He also uses his two hands a lot when you he could have used just one hand for faster and longer reach.

He isn’t top tier, he only knows how to play with other players on foot, doesn’t make him a better keeper
Who knows the name of the song and artist of the music playing at the background? Anyone?
It risky just use one hand because they is also less surface and can lead to more guarantee rebounds. Low shots I believe are very hard to hold being to direct.
It’s easy to think some shot he couldn’t stop but De Gea had POSITIONING and REFLEX which was crazy.
De Gea had silly mistakes too. Not that Onana is better but we need to move on and see if Onana can make up for all these
@@os.a.m.aa gk that makes no mistakes doesn't exist. De Gea was a top gk, stop blaming him for -a couple of- about one mistake per year. A gk is human, mistakes happens. Onana on the other hand makes only mistakes...

When he makes the saves, those are saves you expect a professional keeper to save. I did not see any outstanding / world class saves that DDG did on a regular basis where everybody thought would have been a goal but he somehow defied expectation and had amazing reflex and reaction saves.
Seriously? You don't remember "ANY outstanding / world class saves that DDG did on a regular basis"? Then it's clearly the time to quit smoking so much weed.
Sorry for being salty but your comment is simply ridiculous. I remember plenty of such saves made by DDG - e. g. shots from the free kicks in the last minutes of game that were going straight into the top corner. Those were saves that were winning us 2 points. And yes, he used to make them on a regular basis. There's a reason why he was picked MU Player of the Year 3 years in a row. Season after season after SAF had retired, DDG was almost single-handedly carrying this team into the top 4.
The only problem is people have too short memory to remember all his years at MU and focus only on 1-2 last seasons. Had DDG played with Vidic/Ferdinand in front of him, he would have been remembered as one of the absolute MU legends in his position. He was unfortunate to be partnered with Smalling, Jones, Evans, Baily, and Maguire instead.
@@ApachersHis wording is a bit weird but hes saying DDG did world class saves on a daily basis, and Onana is yet to do that. And what Onana does is basic professional goalkeeping.

I was very sceptical about Onana's goalkeeping standard, it was a strange move by MUFC, too quick to replace David with Onana. David is definitely a much better keeper than Onana. Hopefully, Onana will stay within his goal area and continue to improve.
I agree with you on everything but the point of Onana is that he is a much better ball player; he becomes another pivot player (defender) during possession and playing higher up the pitch is sometimes key to how we want to play; the best transitional team in Europe.

It's Man Utd. Unless you play like your life depended on it all criticisms are valid no matter who you are
This is not an individual game, before the ball approaches the goalkeeper and becomes a goal it must pass through the defenders, so the question is how the performance of the midfielders and defenders is good and tough!!! So even a goalkeeper like Edwin Vandesar will be destroyed, think about it, don't look for one person's fault
Yes that's why onana came from a big team where the likes of Dimarco couldn't allow the ball reach him
exactly like what do you want him to do when maguire and j evans are playing in front of you
As a fellow goalkeeper i think people give him a much harder time than he deserves even though he makes a lot of mistakes I believe he'll find his form eventually we just need to give him time. (Btw I'm a city fan)
Remember claudio bravo? Didn't work for him at city.. he was a ucl winner with barca and won league titles too.. Onana is finished sometimes things don't work out. I see no way back from him. Already he looks shadow of a player he was last season. De gea had rough start but he had leaders in dressing room ie Vidic, Ferdinand,Evra WC defenders who instilled confidence in him and helped him..

What you say makes completely sence. You dont need to look for validation saying "aS a CiTy fAn..."
Everything he does, I mean when he went out and shouted at Maguire one of their most senior player, that kinda action really hits him back so hard. For a keeper he is the nightmare for the defenders😢😢
I did some math. 35 on target shots, and 14 of these resulted in a goal. This implies that during these games, 40% of all on target shots (according to this video time) goes in when Onana is in goal. This may seem bad at first until you realize that he has had the most shots taken out of all the Big Six clubs. Overall, you cant say his performances have been “good” but he certainly gets a lot more work to do.
Edit: Y’all can analyze these basic stats further. Also, what’s with the beef down below?
But you can't deny the basic eye test. Forget all this statistics. Just look at some of his dives that resulted in goals. They're terrible for a top tier goalkeeper. Even as a Liverpool fan I get angry looking at some of them.

Onana is an outfield player who is a GK. Even the saves he makes is the save and outfield player who had to go into nets would pull of. Its never meant its a dive and hope.
True. A good goalkeeper should be able to catch or control the shoot on goal and quickly play it to the outfield players. Some weak shots he faced in the video and he failed to catch most of them but just parried them away with his legs which I agree, any outfiled players can pull of that kind of goalkeeping.

Where did degea go
That money was huge. DeGea was on £300k per week. If he signed a new contract he would have been on at least £400k.
Why not sign a new goal keeper and pay him £120-150k, we all know Onana is not good as De Gea but if the Man UTD defence is solid he would have fewer goals.

Great video....pls do more....its fascinating. His stationary pose after games is epic.
I'm a United fan from 20 years: Try to play Altay Bayindir for 2-3 matches and see how is he doing. Sometimes, the second GK is better. I don't understand why we sold Dean Henderson (He is way better than Onana) and didn't made him our first GK, but, I am not ETH...
First of all, we have a terrible defense without Shaw, Varane, Lisandro and AWB in good shape like the last season... But unfortunately, in every match Onana did a lot of unforced mistakes, he don't know how to position himself in the box and don't have fast reflexes like other PL goalkeepers... He just waste enormous time trying to bee cool and show how good is he with the leg and this doesn't matter in Premier League/Champions League where each team is able to score because there is value and good talents.
This is the same way the whole world thought Lisandro was too short for premier league when united conceded goals in the first batch of games until they realized he was one the best defenders in premier league. Nowadays I just keep quiet and watch this naive fan base criticize Onana coz of a defence that can't even play for Norwich
I'm pretty sure varane and lindelof would play for Norwich. Onanas a terrible shot stopper always has been.
U must be delusional take our defence ND give to city u won't be able to pass
@@Rh-vl4bmYou can't expect Onana to be a prime Yashin every game. Plus, in many of these clips, a lot of the Man United defense looked lime they were leaving it to Onana. Even if you put a goalkeeper like Neuer, Buffon, Casillas, they will concede if there is no defense
This will teach them a valuable lesson bro De Gea was decent as hell .
decent is an understatement. I always tought DDG was among the top 5 in the world, always, even during his "out of form" moments. Thousands of shots on target, and ive only counted 5-6 howlers from him in all of his Man U career. But he has done hundreds of heroic saves and dozens of downright super-human saves. And all of this during United worst defensive era of its recent years.
De Gea is overrated he made plenty of mistakes as well even when he had good seasons. Those mistakes are just overshadowed by his amazing saves
@@santiagogalf lmao, DDG was mid as fuck
He seems to stay near the goal most of the time and gives them more room to shoot. If you look at more top tier goalkeepers like alisson or manuel neur, you can see a difference between them and onana. Onana stays near the goal line when players get close, but coming up more gives the goalkeeper more of an edge to their chance of saving because the shots up close will go in a diagonal pattern which makes coming up more give them an advantage as they dont have to reach as far to save the sides or top. This is why you need to stay on the line on a penalty. You can see an example of this with Emi Martinez's famous save against France in the 90+ minute of the 2022 final where he comes close enough to where he really just needs to stretch his leg out.
2 in 5 shots are going in! Teams are rubbing their hands when they play Utd right now
I honestly don't think a single save that Onana made was difficult. They were all saves that you would expect any Keeper from the Championship to make even. Most of them were directly at him. On the other hand the majority of the goals he let in were massive blunders. He is either poorly positioned or reacts poorly on almost every single one. Terrible shotstopper.
Onana will be a great goalkeeper by the time this season ends. I have faith in him, he's just getting started at the club.
That's the spirit!
thats the way
as a Chelsea fan, I agree
People genuinely underrate De Gea, at actual goalkeeping he was one of the best
The final numbers don't look good and there are 4 he should've saved. His positioning is not great and he needs to be more aggressive. That being said, I lost track of counting but the poor defending is the root cause for most of these goals. Manchester United need a new manager with a more organized philosophy. I feel Ten Hags players look lost and constantly out of position.
they just need better defenders plain and simple, no amount of philosophy can save that.
More aggressive? He was pretty aggressive against Wolverhampton recently.
I think his movement a little bit slow (may be cause of his mass) but his decision and reaction is not bad. Do not accuse him only, should accuse defenders also.
what it has to do with defenders? talking about how he saves. when 1v1 he clear tries to cheat which end up being like idiot also lean too slow, other than that hes fine
His movement is slow because his stance is too wide. Should have feet shoulder-width apart with weight forward. He has his feet close to twice that distance and it means he can’t sort his feet out.
This sort of thing turns routine saves into difficult ones. Even with a poor stance, he should be saving the Sane shot for example, but with a good stance it wouldn’t have come close to going in.
I seriously hope we have coaches noting this and working on it with him.

1. Positioning - for shot stopping he tends to stay next to the goal line limiting his abilities. Rarely comes out for one on ones.
2. Using the opposite leg to dive to one side - it's faster to go down but more prone to making errors (less area to cover).
3. Footwork - tends to react slowly to any changes in play leading to at times not going in line with the ball (ok this depends on the situation and keeper preference.)
Stays too close to the near post for cutbacks and shuffles not quick enough at times.
He reminds of De Gea's first season where he got criticised but for different reasons (collecting crosses, not strong enough etc)
But Onana is a solid keeper with exceptional distribution. When he gets more experience and works on his weaknesses, he will be fine at United.
Thanks for the video btw 👏🏾
Thanks for you comment. It's interesting hearing someone with a bit of goalkeeping expertise. I definitely noticed his footwork issues before he signed for United.
Another area he struggles in I'd say is in 1v1s
@@HeshComps2 appreciate it but I'm no expert in goalkeeping 😂. I totally agree, that's the most noticeable issue with Onana.
he have experience, he plays UCL final and was the best player at pitch, but Premier is a different game than Serie A, and yes, he remember De Gea in his first season, but at time, De Gea was weak in crosses, in distribuction and he was so inconstant, he drops for Lindegaard several times, Onana had spirit, but the 4 back line was so weak this season, he conceded a questionable goals, but most of isnt his fault (sorry for my english)
@@igorrodrigues97. No doubt about it but De Gea improved a lot since his early days at United.
A lot of keepers who played well in other top leagues struggled at their debut season in the Prem. I'm sure Onana will improve for sure.
I still remember him when we had Suarez playing for us.
Those seasons , he pulled of so many magical saves.
Mon idole 😢❤❤
the beat goes hard
Thank you
Close range his best , but sometimes too stiff, he needs more experience at the top level to improve. All depends on him
Great format. You should put the number of games on screen too.
He has some very big gloves 🧤 to fill. De Gea was Uniteds rock for years
0:44 cracked me every time
ETH must watch this video
We need David kwentana back at old Trafford, onana will let us go championship😢😢
King of knee saves
De Gea was the best performing keeper last season in the PL. The two are literally at opposite ends of quality within the same league.
Footwork, footwork, footwork. Onana is late/miss times planting his feet and he is always really late to diving or have to fling himself to make a short distance “dive” for a save. Footwork and timing, as well as not trying to care where the parie goes when facing shots that require quick reactions; he keeps overthinking about how to connect the ball with his hand instead of just getting his hand to block the ball. Oh, and as a ball playing goalkeeper, I wish he would find passes that weren’t just long passes upfield. Ball playing goalkeeper only helps if you don’t give away the ball, and an upfield pass into a crowd is just a 50/50.
Can you do the same video but with Keylor Navas at Nothinham Forest last season?
I miss de gea more than life😢
They could actually win against Bayern if this dude can save
Hes not jumping but casually lifts his legs simultaneously
"You dont know the value of someone until you lose them"
2/3 of all shorts were goals! Damn😂😂😂
I'm a die-hard Arsenal fan but onana is debatably the best current player in United only reason he conceded goals was either it was almost impossible to save or the defenders did nothing, Neuer had top-tier defenders it's the reason he didn't concede that many same with Buffon.
A lot of the goals are nice shots that Onana just can’t to because the defending just opens up and they get easy shots. Yes there may have been some mistakes in there but other than that Onana has made some pretty nice saves.
João Pedro’s goal was definitely saveable. But I admit that goal by Mathys Tels is a insane goal
@@MERCwtm I agree. That was an insane goal.
When the ball goes where he stands sometimes he saves. Great... By the way, when trying to stop a low ball why does he jump first?
First of all a goalkeeper is definitely a human being and it's completely normal to make mistakes lile the goal in bayern so as de gea did vs brentford vs sevilla vs west ham last year, the concerning part is his shot stopping ability in shots that shouldnt concede (as the likes of Brentford goal the joao pedro goal the zaha goal) and the hilarious body stance he has when he is going 1 v 1 situations (vs awoniyi and vs icardi)need to step his game up to be more consistent and be more secure
Slow pace at italy cant comprehend this guy at prem
He practically never leaves his line on 1v1s
i like
He does some great saves, but sometimes due to his lack of confidence, he gives up on the easy saves. His results in him not gettinf percieved as 'good' by fans. Positioning and reflexes is what he needs to improve.
I just think that is team problems afflicted him:
- bad period afflicts players
- too much shots, more probability to make more mistakes
- first matches, this can be happens; nobody remember De Gea? Or the first Courtois Real Madrid season?
It's funny thay he calms down his mates while he is the one who is responsible for.
The best shot stopper in the premier league and World entirely
Maguire is free now as the keeper take all the sticks 😅😅😅😅
comparing the best shotstopper of our genartion(at his peak) to onana
Thats actually his twin brother Onono!
Football is team work. Unjust to blame one player.
Maximum respect to David only age was a problem
Onana saves those obvious balls, n for those that he saves he uses his feet when he can use his hands. Some goals goals go in just inches from where he is positioned, if only he could go down quicker
