Pondering the floor that I'm getting ready to lay in my listening room and how I'll finish it. Thinking I'll go with the linseed oil and see how it looks. I can always darken it if I think it's too light.

Purple IS the color of royalty after all
I agree with you on Art Deco being a pinnacle of woodworking. I'd include steel and glass in that as well. Purple, good one John.
Missing your video's in the past few months. Very glad to see you posting again.
This frame is breaking my brain! It's flat at top but there looks like there is depth between the frame and poster!
That is a cool frame.
Nice discussion John! I really like the oil finish you have chosen, classy for sure. Would you consider doing a video walk through your home? We have seen a few bits of rooms but I would really like to see more of the work you have in your home. Thank you for your consideration! Always great content and videos!!
Very Cool John!
John, you are definitely a contrarian and I love that about you! Love the frame man! I am always impressed by your creativity.
Love the work on that frame and the way you did the video.
Steve Ramsey can source bright purple paint for you.
Perhaps you could place your speakers on some sort of a contrasting platform or rug to separate them from the floor
That Hickory is awesome looking, maybe do the linseed oil as you showed and make something on the shorter side to go under your speakers for them to sit on.
Maybe……..try steel wool/vinegar oxidation solution. Depending on the solution concentration, you can various shades of grey with the grain showing through.. You can also oil the wood first and then apply oxidation solution to get a different effect. I did this on some cedar corner bead I milled to match my flooring. Turned out great! Near infinite possibilities……….
As your mouth said the word "purple" your face said the words " I'm taking the piss, how many of you are going to bite" Excellent wind up sir, I salute you.
Looks like some fun videos coming!! I recently build a cigar box guitar... used ebony stain, turned out sweet, lots of grain popped through... cheers!
Purple speakers? That'd be just grape! I think you should look into getting a block of India ink and mixing it into the linseed oil to give you a dark gray finish...
add pigment to the oil
I love the BLO look.
As a contrast, maybe a vinegar/ iron acetate wash to age it a little.
Just one axis of symmetry not 2 or more at the same time. The poster frame has vertical but not horizontal.
Can always grab a rug to break up the wood tones
Will replacing the carpet with a reflective surface have a detrimental effect on the sound/room treatment success that you have worked so hard to achieve?
The carpet isn't doing anything good, actually. Thin carpet only absorbs very high frequency sound. Everything else goes right through and reflects like there's nothing there. Carpet can make an otherwise well treated room sound too dead.
@@IBuildItScrapBin Oh, okay. I really admire the work you've done creating this listening room and hope to maybe put some of it's features to use in my space. As far as the aesthetics are concerned, and although the oiled hickory is beautiful, it kind of harkens back to your earlier comments, basically saying it's the non-congruencies in a design that make it pop....I'm showing my bias here, but the star of any listening room, to me, should be the speakers...And those that you built are beauties
what about the dark danish oil ?
Vinegar steel wool finish?
Have you thought about staining the Hickory a medium dark gray?
Thought about it, but I'm having a problem convincing myself that it would look good. Also seems like a waste to change wood colour that radically.
Hi John, love the picture frame, it is amazing, pity the film was such a crap event filmed in a coal seller and not visible for most of it.
rug under speakers
How about stain with India ink?
Maybe try some Escher based frames next !?
No Purple
Not purple John. 🤣
Paint the ceiling black…..
I'm thinking on it.
@@IBuildItScrapBin black with tiny lights to emulate the stars
Ebony stain is very dark.
paint it black! 🙄
If you are gong to do purple speakers, go with a metal flake purple wrap like people do on cars.
Bash some walnut stain into the oil, write down the proportions with each try, you know why.
Well, you can always try a Walnut stain, John. But just the blo looks amazing indeed!
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Very well done John again, Happy Holidays to you.
Maybe do that Japanese burn-the-wood thing? Shou sugi ban?
That would set of the smoke alarm for sure :D
