Poor Hugo!
NEVER. TRUST. CHILD. CHARACTERS. Especially when they behave in an extremely quirky manner. Her accent alone was a dead giveaway. Then there was that confusion with the book’s owner. But what I found really intriguing was how she almost seemed…unfazed a bit when Francois was murdered. I know shock does stuff to people, but she was stuck in “quirky” mode to me. That’s what really made me question her.
And not the fact that out of 100s of kids she was the one NOT sick?

@@HlootooThunderhammer What is even SADDER....she may have been real at one point. Cause there IS a girl same name and accent who is the scarecrow in Once Upon a Witchlight. She tells of how she was basically in a transit plane after death and has no idea of how she died or got there. I heard that one out before this moment so had a slight spoiler for me. lol

Dang this sucks but the reference to a story book just made me think in the Episode beforehand "Is Mother Midnight Anya?" And turns out my fear was true T.T
I figured she was since:
1: She was the only character to have an Eastern European accent like a hag would.
2: The book thing.

Nikkie is VERY good at this. I absolutely despise both Billy and Mother Midnight. (Prideful villains really, REALLY bug me)
I wasn't expecting to cry this episode, but my heart breaks for Hugo. Poor guy :(

Honestly I couldn’t completely trust Anya since she was introduced so not super surprised. She just seemed to fit in too perfectly and just know what to say
She also was a little too unbothered about everything.

Nice character, and I'm quite fond of all the players, but I hate the concept that the DM's solution for to defeating evil is to ally with other evils and giving them a stronger hold on you.
On the contrary, I think it's a great change from the tired hero's journey narrative most campaigns tend to heavily rely upon.
@@rhiannonenright4458 I agree it is a novel concept, but novelty isn’t always good.
Look at the characters as people. Put yourself in their place. Think of what Evil actually means, particularly to someone like Marius who has been fighting the Duchess’ influence for decades.
Do you think these Dark Powers mean our heroes well? Do you think these dark beings have the best intentions for the world in general? If you give evil a hold over you, what sort of things will that evil force you to do?
@elizabethtravis7332 I think it's important to remember this is a horror campaign and everything is full of bad ppl and bad entities, and unfortunately, sometimes you have to side with enemies to bring down an even greater evil
@@birdiefalls6352 That is easy to say in the moment, and it is easy to justify such actions at the time, believing that you have no other choice. It is only afterwards, once you start dealing with the consequences of evil bargains that you realize just how much you gave up by choosing to compromise and use evil to fight other evil.
I am thinking primarily of Marius in this instance. As the series goes on, we see the Duchess gaining more and more control over him, most likely because he performed this ritual and bound himself closer to her. Because of her increased influence, Marius begins to lose faith in the Divine and believes that his god has abandoned him, though that is not the case.
If you take the story seriously and actually care about the characters, you would see that no one who wanted the best for Marius would ever try to bind him closer to the Duchess if there were any other way of doing it.
My main complaint is against the DM for encouraging (and virtually forcing) the darker side of the characters to the forefront, almost as if it was her goal to drive them to fall to evil and become the twisted, corrupted monsters we see in the Crooked Moon villains.
@@elizabethtravis7332 I believe Marius would still choose the same. They all want the lesser of 2 evils, even if they have to corrupt part of themselves. On top of that they all have the hope of being released from their evils or greatly helping themselves in one way or another.
