Police Bazaar, Shillong : This is heart of the city, though a high traffic area, but since there are food joints in the vicinity, so many travelers prefer to stay near Police bazar.
But in my own personal opinion, i would prefer to stay near Umiam lake, it is about 15 km short of Shillong, if you are travelling from Guwahati. It is a peaceful area but each place has its own pros and cons….
As you see our episodes you will get to learn about this and decide it for your own self.
I stayed in Shillong at Hotel Orchid Annex, this is situated at a distance of about 3 km from Police bazar, decent property, good customer service and nice spacious rooms.
Average room tariff at this hotel is Rs 3500 , then it goes up, i got a deal at Rs 2250 from make my trip, may be because i did booking at last minute…

Shillong city is just like any other city/hill station...crowded, traffic etc etc. But the real gem of meghalaya lies in the countryside.. outskirts..cherrapunjee, mawsynram, living root brigdge, umgnot river(dawki), krangsuri falls, jowai,mawlynnong ( cleanest village) etc. once u get out of shillong city, the views are simply mesmerising. Welcome to the north east sir. Hope you had a gr8 time.

I was born and brought up in Shillong & stayed there for 21 years. I got mixed emotions watching the video; which included roads that I used to walk & travel with my friends. Thank you.
One thing I have noticed from the assam series and the chardham series is that sir has lost a lot of weight and glow on his skin which he lost during the kerala series has reappeared. Glad to see sir back.

Shillong is called " SCOTTLAND OF EAST". It is true. I had been in Shillong in the year of 2000 and 2015. It was the part travel of my tour to Arunachal Pradesh. Basically northeast is incredible from the travel perspective. And Harish Ji, I really fall in love with your travel videos. You have a unique style of presentation and a very simple attitude to mix up with the people, which makes me watching every video. Carry on.

I have seen something of your earlier videos of south and Rajasthan wherein you exclusively focussed only on local food. Probably, with the Uttarakhand journey you have elevated your videos to cover the sightseeing, which is good.
Your wearing the local turban (7:17) adds grace. Wearing topi, turban, paghadi is an intricate culture of our country and covering head has lots of values. I liked your pulling the leg of the young girl selling umbrellas. Keeping the child in you adds fun to travel and eliminates the self - ego.
Just a suggestion, if you can also focus on sharing the culture and the local items (arts, clothes).

Nice video after so many days. I went Shillong many times. There was a sweet shop called "Delhi Misttan " in Police Bazar used to serve delicious sweets and Jilebis.

It is so nice that these states are getting introduced to us now. Nice way of bonding with them. The rosella tea is actually petals of fruit of a vegetable eaten all over India and overseas also. It is called Ambadi in Marathi and Gongura in Telgu. ( In your episode on Kolkota market, you had seen it.) In Gulf countries, it is known as Karakate. This tea is taken at the time of breaking fast in Ramazan. It is eaten many African countries also. Know by different names, though.

Ambade is called as Hog plum in English is the flower Rosella that's there in this episode same as flower of Ambade - Hog plum.... pl reply back if you have knowledge of this subject....
