- Bandit ZT1844 Stump Grinder with new Belt tensioner ( how to adjust belt ) and Green teeth 900 series. Also info on pulley bolts and torque specs and info on what might cause clutch failure and how to avoid it.
Great vid as usual, thanks for the dorman bolt suggestion. I’ve been looking for grade 8 “full thread” bolts forever and now I’m able to chase them down. I have a Vermeer 252 and you’re correct about the clutch failures. The bearings get hot which heat up the electromagnetic coil inside and it shuts down. Once the bearings coil down it will work again until they get super hot again and the process starts over.
The Vermeer clutches are super expensive and I’ve discovered they CAN be rebuilt by breaking it down & replacing the existing bearings. Bearing # are stamped on the bearing cage, and w/some time & the right tools (snap ring pliers) it can be done for short $$. I have (3) so I rebuilt them over the winter to ensure I can swap a defect out during the season. Thanks for the video’s bro, they help everyone out.
Now thats what I am talking about
very helpful stump grinder service tips
Thanks 👍
Nice little machine, joystick odd to get used too. Running it like a big machine will do belt in quick. Had clutch bearing seize up, replaced clutch
Thanks for the info
Thank you man so there's one thing that even the dealer didn't tell me about..it was to engage the cutter wheel on low then accelerate it cost me 3 belts 🤯🤯🤯
No problem 👍
Thanks for info. My upgrade came with zero instructions and the dealer is a joke here
do you need the pdf file
Hey, I’ve learned a lot from you. I really think I want to get in to stump grinding as a side hustle.
Thanks mate all the way from Australia,Aaron
Your welcome and your words are appreciated
Hey, thanks for info. Found Gates Bx-37 belt at O'Riley auto.
I seen your first video about the belt tensioner and it was great help. I wished I could talk with you over the phone as I could help you with making your machine more productive with a Rhino wheel.
Keith, I think I remember you ...you used to make the alpine wheel and I used it years ago on my 252 and it was fantastic
Great video! Thanks for posting!
Well from one Adam to another Adam thanks

2018 zt1844 160 hours, doesn't have belt tensioner upgrade, wanting 16k....good price or better off with new one?
buy the sg40 not the zt
A question if you can share the information to be able to buy the belts of a bandit zT 1844 stump remover so that I can buy a replacement on Amazon, thank you very much

@@mustangrebuilder Thanks you very much
so if i get you right, your running both smooth belts at 25 ft and not 18 for the torque?
Also I have found two different belt companies .. the D and D belts are cheap but seam to glaze over and loose grip faster so I used them as backups and the gates worked the best and lasted longest but 2 1/2 times more
My mechanic has adjusted the belt on my Bandit 2450XP several times in the past few months. The wheel spins before I engage it. Is it safe to assume the clutch is bad? Also, I see on your smaller machine that the idler sheave pushes down on the belt for tension, on my XP the idler sheave is inside the belt. Is that correct or did someone put this on wrong, tough to understand manual? Thank you in advance.
I assume the clutch also but with the cover off you can check for engagement and you are correct on the tensioner on Zt1844 , the factory admitted that it is a bad design from an engineering point to have it push down on belt
Do you know how to remove the Serpentine Belt of a stump grinder I think that’s what it’s called the thing that spins the belt on a Rayco stump grinder ?
send pic to mustangrebuilder@gmail.com
Hi my bandet keeps eating up the belts?
Send me a pic of belts to my email... you have to clean out the cover shield every week and ck the roller I am sure it need to be replaced
Great video, I'm having a hard time following the instructions for getting the proper tension on the belt. I know you kind of mentioned it in this video but how exactly do you check that the tension is 18lbs with the torque wrench?
try 25 lbs and put the torque wrench on the big bolt and move it till it clicks and hold it then tighten small 9/16 nut
@@mustangrebuilder Thanks I think I understand, so just tighten it until its snug right? So if I click it at 25lbs and there's no threads to tighten then it's too tight? Bless
Shield bolts: 5/16-18 x 1/2" Z Flange
Is your ZT the 28 or 38 horsepower?
It was the 38 ..sold it and my brother now runs the sg40
Do you have a video of your sharpening teeth process?
I will be making one in the next few weeks
What made you choose Bandit when you are so far from a dealer?
I used to have a dealer here and I have a vermeer dealer here but they did not honor a warranty on a 352 I had and I even paid for an upgraded warranty so Bandit pursued me hard and I gave them the go
@@mustangrebuilder Started 2 years ago with a ZT, love your stump grinding videos - thanks!
