A few years ago, decided to setup my old Uniden PC122. I lived in Blue Mountains, Sydney Australia. With the old station master (no amp) I was able to constantly hear and talk to people in Hawaii. I was about 650m above sea level, plus about 50ft of mast with the antennae bolted on. Now I have moved closer to the coast...and looking to setup again. I dont think I'll hit Hawaii unless a decent skip is happening. Best wishes to all!

I have been working CB since 1978, the best setup I ever had was a Cobra 148gtl, with a Gray 300, and a 102 steel whip., I will be back on air again, but finances has kept me off the air lately, I love SSB. I think that's the way to go

I made much longer DX on CB radio Stalker V, From Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) to Lion France. I practiced DXing (Long distance connections in HAM world) for longer time, and did contacted people in Turkey, France , Germany and Sweden (100-800 miles). I even heard US truckers on channel 19, but never didn't got response on my calls. Greetings from YZ4NLO

Freaking AMAZING... even for being on a mountain top. I'm waiting on a Peaked & Tuned Galaxy 979F to be delivered. Don't have the topography to get a height advantage, I'll be thrilled with 25 miles. :) Thank you for your UA-cam episode.

I picked up someone in Puerto Rico AND Hawaii today from Downey California with nothing but a barefoot PC78XL and a radioshack 3' whip...I could hear them loud and clear, But they couldn't hear me. I thought it was cool to hear people from that far away though, I'm getting a Wilson 1000 in the mail about in a few days so hopefully I can get out a bit further pretty soon.

First off, I am a licensed ham. I have several fantastic ham radios but I didn't want to put an expensive ham radio in my work vehicle where it could be stolen. I installed the Stryker SR-955HP (strykerradios.com/store/10-meter-radio-955hpc/) in my van and have been using it for about a year now. I use a Stryker SR-A10 CB magnet mount antenna (strykerradios.com/best-cb-antennas/) and I talk to my local hams on 10 meters SSB all day when on the road at work.
This radio is the absolute best import radio you can buy. The frequency is stable in all weather conditions and with 80 watts I can talk all over my state to my friends with no problems. It gets fantastic audio reports on AM and SSB using only a $10 Workman Superstar microphone. I have used other Ranger and Galaxy radios in the past and this far exceeds the performance of any other import radio you can buy. Don't waste your time and money, just get the SR-955HPC 10 meter radio and you will be very happy if you install it properly and dont let your buddy peak and tune it and ruin it.

This is like the days cbradio went viral and called "marc" in 1980 in the Netherlands. We had at first 26.965 - 27.225 and 0.5 watt on only FM mode and later on 40 channels to 27.405 and 4 watt. Now we have ssb and am mode added and still 40 channels on legal basis. Sometimes we hear America in good weather conditions for a few hours but not every year. We have now a cbrepeater on channel 11. Nice vid though 73s

Simple good antenna good radio... and the box on his floor board as an rm Italy linear amplifier that you can see from the wiring is hooked to the output of the dx979f ... I'd say he's easily pushing 300 watts if the linear is on high... plus the linear has a 26db gain receiver enhancer amplifier for incoming signals.. therefore with good equipment and low swr 50 miles is easily possible provided the 11 meter band is in an open state which lately it has been... but that's typical as 11m and 10m bands generally open in mid summer when the sun is at its highest point d layer skip propagation of rf signals in these bands is extremely possible..

When I was a CBer on a clear spring morning the skip was all gone. I went back to a breaker that sounded like he was next door. I was on the East Coast and he was on the West Coast although we didn't know that at the time. The legal limit for CB is 4 watts dead key. That is what I was using.
We used to have a CB license. We had to pay for the license. Most of the laws an rules have been determined to be unenforceable. That is why unlike any other radio service you have horrible language and horrible manners on CB. There is no real regulation.
If you are a Ham Radio Operator you have a free licence although you have to pass a test, can operate on 16 bands that are all larger in spread than CB. You can operate a a maximum of 1500 Watts and talk with anyone in the world legally. Ham rules and regulations are mostly enforced by Hams. They can easily triangulate violators and they do. For reasons like that Ham Radio has no music player nor people cussing and engaging in any form of despicable language nor practices.
I recommend it for those who want to make long distance contacts. It is legal there.

Make sure the company you want to drive for will allow you to have a radio in your truck. Todays drivers don't seem capable of driving and operating a cb at the same time. Now, driving ( and that's putting it nicely) and reading a book, watching a tablet or computer screen, FaceTime with whoever, catching up on your favorite shows ,these all seem to be activity endorsed by the company.

Hello Guys! Vic here from the Netherlands, Question, Why is FM modulation illegal in the states? Here in The Netherlands, Germany, France we can use AM and FM, almost everybody is using FM. I just wonder why the difference? why do we not use AM and is FM not used in the states?

    • @robertrockwell7581
      @robertrockwell7581 6 років тому

Vic Green AM is the way that the FCC set it up in the U.S. we are not allowed FM as they feared it would interfere with radio stations i wish they would have gone FM i don't believe we would have had all the TV interference that we had if we had gone to FM. maybe somewhere down the line like they gave you AM a couple years ago.

Is this all people do on the CB?
''Hey I'm over here, where are you?''
''I'm over here, where are you?''
    ''What's your 20?'' ''What's your 20?''

    • @SolitaryBro

No, this isn't all people use CB for, but it is fascinating when you can make long distance on a radio, but you wouldn't understand....

Benzedirk Kozlov According to a diagram I've seen, one line of sight problem results from the natural curvature of the earth. Light is affected by gravity, so it should curve with the earth.

We created a facebook group in hopes of making new contacts and possibly making some great video gates for one another. Obviously we all have a love for this hobby and its certainly not growing, if anything its been fading away. It would be nice to make new friends that are interested in the same thing and eventually come to trust. We are looking forward to hearing from you! ( 915 Eastern Iowa Rangers Base Station Waving )
