      If a bug flies infront of a car windshield on a highway, did the car run into the bug or the bug run into the car?
      It doesn’t really matter until an investigation is finalized. People jump to conclusions so quickly.

      Air vessels have red and green running lights on their sides. The red light is on the left side. If an approaching vessel sees that RED LIGHT, that means they are supposed to yield the right of way to that vessel. The airliner hit that helicopter on it's left side which means the airliner did not yield the right of way. Therefore, without further investigation, it is a true fact that the airliner crashed into the helicopter.
      The helicopter had the right of way.
      My issue is that even if you have the right of way, and you see that bright light from that airliner coming right at you, it's better to take evasive action and drop down to the floor to avoid a collision.
      Right now, the video shows the airliner is at fault.
      Only the black boxes inside the helicopter can determine if the pilots knew there was a threat approaching them, and did nothing to evade the threat.

    • @ThisUnderWorldOfDarkness
      @ThisUnderWorldOfDarkness 7 днів тому

      @@MrCoolguy425 The plane hit the helicopter on it's left side. That means the plane is at fault because on the left side (port side) of all air and sea vessels is a "Red Running Light". The right side is a "Green Running Light". If you're approaching a vessel and you see the RED LIGHT, that means that vessel has the right of way. That plane saw the red light on that helicopter and did not yield the right of way.
      This is why everyone is saying the plane crashed into the helicopter.
      The only issue here for the helicopter is whether or not they saw the threat approaching them, and did not take evasive action to prevent a collision.
      How that helicopter did not see that bright light on that airliner is beyond me.
      Until they get the black box, to determine if they saw it coming at them and did nothing to evade, all evidence points to the airliner being the blame

      @ there’s an additional problem. Both jets and helicopters have the same “right of way” priority, however landing aircraft on final take priority over other powered aircraft.
      So the jet, clearly landing, would have right of way over the helicopter if the helicopter was not on final.

      If you approach a vessel and you see the left side of that vessel (port side), that vessel has the right of way. There's a red light on the port side, and a green light on the starboard side (right side). You see red, you yield, You see green, you have the right of way. The plane saw red, the plane was in the wrong. ... Just because the plane was landing, that don't mean it was at the correct altitude to be landing. That's another factor,

      That actual does mean a lot. More than likely jet was cleared so they are final approach. I’m curious to know if the Army helo got permission from ATC to cross the flight path. So the easy answer is either the Army Helo failed to request permission to cross and the Army pilot is at fault or ATC lost situation awareness and granted permission to cross or they crossed at the wrong altitude, wrong area.

      It seems most likely that the helicopter was approaching the runway and didn't see the aircraft overhead, possibly thinking it was following in behind the aircraft in front of it when the other plane descended from above the helicopter. The helicopter wouldn't have seen that plane above it, and that plane wouldn't have been able see the helicopter below it. My guess is ATC communication was not specific enough or quick enough for either the plane nor the helicopter pilots to correct avoid the collision.

The Helo was below them not in line of sight. The Air Traffic Controller failed to keep the Helo away from the plane. Something is wrong. Air Space there 3 miles from the White House is insanely restricted. No "Training flight" goes in the dark into the approach path. • @MrCoolguy425
      @MrCoolguy425 6 днів тому

      @ in most circumstances yes, and for most training they do. In this case for night flying the helicopter was following the river at low altitude for an annual night flying qualification.
      That isn’t unusual, as over a river there are few obstacles and is a stark difference between lit terrain on either side of the river, and the darker waters is easy to make out making navigation easier. Unfortunately we don’t know what was happening in the cockpit yet and will have to wait for the investigation for why the helicopter crew did not attempt to avoid the landing aircraft.

    The helicopter crew was at fault. Despite ATC and TCAS on the jet (though not active though at those altitudes), the final mechanism to keep those aircraft apart was "visual separation"...in this case the eyeballs of the helicopter crew who positively confirmed seeing the jet and the instruction to pass behind it. Something...momentary loss of spatial awareness, a distraction in the cockpit, another aircraft, or lights on the ground confused that crew. Ironically, good weather may have played a part, leading to more conflicting visual cues from bright lights - in bad weather the helo would not have been operating and/or there would have been more separation. There is also an element of extremely bad luck - even at slow landing speeds the aircraft would have been moving across the path of the helicopter at almost the length of a football field every second. Thousands of helicopter operations happen in busy airspace like this every day and collisions are extremely rare. On any other day, it would have been a near miss that would have never made headlines.
