It’s a shame that injuries would keep Verkerk down for the rest of his career. He could’ve been something much more and this tournament just proves it.
It was really a shame, didn't really knew about his injuries, but i saw all this tournament, it was a pleasure to watch him playing. Most of his victories were due to his amazimg powerful serve, but he could also play!
What happened to Ferrero after this? Prior to his win, he was in one final and two semis at Roland Garros. Following his win, he failed to make it beyond the third round. Obviously Nadal would have prevented him from lifting the trophy once he came on the scene, but that's a pretty bad record for a clay court specialist.
He got injured a lot from 2004 onwards and was never the same player again. He probably good have done with another 5kg of muscle, 72kg is very light for a 6ft player and this probably contributed to his injuries.
Despite being a clay court specialist after this his big feats were all on hard courts as he got hurt before the 04 clay season and was never the same. He made the 03 US Open final and 04 Australian Open semis. A few years later he made a masters final at Cincinatti again on hard courts.
Great match by both players. And a month later, an unknown player by the name of Roger Federer achieved a surprise victory in Wimbledon. History began...
His lovely student also won Roland Garros today 🥲What a story
In 2023, his student Alcaraz won the Madrid Open. He is a great player and a great coach.
And now Wimbledon 🎉
Alcaraz was one month old when Ferrero won FO 😊
June 2024, his student won Roland Garros as well
And now Juan Carlos Ferrero has won... again!!!. Congratulation !!

schalken also when he came close to top 10. Dutch tennis players and injuries are common.

Juan Carlos Ferrero is my favorite tennis player so my son, I named him Jaun Ferrero🫣
Ferrero our love-
Queremos agradecer al señor Jamie Owen poner estos partidos de tenis legendarios a disposición del público para que les disfrute... Muchas gracias.

Federer wasn't unknown when he first won Wimbledon, he was world number 5 and had beaten Sampras at Wimbledon 2001
Federer really should have picked up 1 or 2 French Open titles before the Nadal era given his clay court credentials.
@@deedledave9826 Maybe one more FO in 2003. In 2004 he lost to Kuerten who was no slouch on a clay court. After that Nadal took over the FO.
@@deedledave9826the field on RG was very Open between 2000-2004
@@g2tennisVerkerc Puerta Gaudio the mega 3. They are the only GS finalists in history that never reached a 2nd QF.
Verkerk is a journeyman who did a 'Rocky'.
Incredible how Verkerk beat Coria and Moya to reach this final.
Thank God this final was more "logical" lol
@@mrpiccolofan2 Buddy, wouldn't it have been a better story a la Rocky Balboa, if Martin won? Interesting idea?
When they get into a rally, the edge goes to Juan Carlos. When Martin bombs in a serve, he holds the upper hand.
Sad hes shoulder was gone after atp Amersfoort win in 2004. I think he could archieve some great things if hes body didnt let him down.
Ivanisevic fits that description better for his Wimbledon story
Tanto la gran mayoría del público, cómo los propios comentaristas apoyaban a Verkerk...
🤗Enhorabuena Juan Carlos...
Gran tenista!!!
pues q les den a todos bien dados, ganó Juan Carlos, así q q se jodan!
So good!!
Viendo el reportaje parece que iba a ganar Verkerk y en realizad fue una paliza de Ferrero.
Q amigable foto de final de ambos ❤
20 years later Alcaraz will be the champion.
Wimbledon. French Open in 2024.
Wow the pace of the mens game has really changed… even though this was clay they don’t hit near as hard
🎉🎉
We were robbed of a great final between Ferrero and Coria.
Battle of the chokers.
That match would probably still be going today
Todavía no puedo creer como perdió coria esa semifinal
Juan Carlos Ferrero..Mosquitoo🎉🎉
I hopefully in 2024 Carlos Alcaraz winning same him coach 💪🥇🐝🫶
At the end of the video the speaker says something about Nadal...he should be 17 years old at this moment
Time stamp?
interesting feet movements in Verkerk serve motion..
Great match from Ferrero!
Verkerk vs Ruud....same style as Ferrero
