Bruh...whoever requested this video picked the worst possible performance example when mentioning the Robot dance....they cut the shot to show Randy playing Bongos when Michael was busting that famous moves. I believe the Carol Burnette performance was where he was actually on camera.
I was born in Gary Indiana and my late grandmother remembered when the Jackson family would play there when they first started out
Hey Vin and Sori! You know me from the chats and comments, but if you guys wanna start getting into MJ, then I'm your guy for all the trivia!
Michael started performing with the Jackson 5 at 5 years old. He had an insane voice right out of the gate, so much so that his insanely strict father Joseph, who managed the band, decided that the youngest son of the band was so good that he should front the Jackson 5. That of course lead to a whole-lot of pressure on him more than anyone else. They got their first record deal in 1968, but their first hit came in 1969 after signing with Motown; I Want You Back....and yeah, they were INSTANT national stars after that! Their shows almost never finished because the crowds of screaming girls would constantly rush the stage before the end. It was their Beatlemania - Jacksonmania, if you will. They would release 3 more number 1 hits the next year: ABC, I'll Be There, and The Love You Save. Their success continued but began to wane into the mid 70s, this song being their last hit with Motown in 1974. They struggled creatively because they weren't allowed to record their own written material, so they signed with CBS in 1976 (bassist Jermaine left the band to stay with Motown) under the new name The Jacksons, with Randy filling in for the 5th spot. You could see him playing bongos on this video, he wasn't part of the band yet.
You brought up Michael's role in the Wiz from 1978. That moment changed his life because that was when he met Quincy Jones, one of the most legendary producers in Popular music. It was also around this time that he fell during a dance rehearsal and broke his nose. He required surgery after that and he would get it touched up sporadically throughout his life. It was also known that his father made fun of his nose growing up, calling him "Big Nose", so that may have also had an effect on the multiple nose surgeries, as it got progressively thinner throughout his life. People of course made fun of him for it but the truth behind the matter is truly saddening.
Quincy became his producer for the next three solo albums, starting with Off The Wall which was an insanely successful hit! Like, it was the greatest thing to come out of the Disco scene, even though it was released after the Disco Demolition Night that supposedly killed the genre. It was some damn-fine Disco, R&B, Funk, and Soul, and quite a new blend of it that hadn't been tried before. Quincy and Michael were deadset on crafting a new sound that would take-over and eventually replace Disco. They had most of the ingredients on that album, but it wasn't until Michael's encounter with Rock band Queen where he gushed over their then in-progress songs Another One Bites The Dust. He convinced them to release it as a single, much to the band's dismay, but the decision was made and it became their biggest hit in the US. This was what was missing from Michael's fusion; Rock. His next album would incorporate the Disco, R&B, Funk and Soul, but with added features of Rock and New Wave...That record was Thriller, and I don't think anymore needs to be said. It's the greatest selling album worldwide for a reason.
I'll end this one here. I do have quit a lot to say about the Allegations because everyone has their perspectives looking from the outside, but looking at the facts of the case, I am firmly confident in maintaining his innocence, and I will happily argue my case. But for now, I wanted to focus on the early days when things weren't so heavy.
Nothing but fax!🤝🏽🎯💯
