For me it is too i think. Tim Keller and John Piper are 2 people who always encourage me to seek God, his glory and grow in holiness almost no matter what they preach about. Keller is more interesting to listen to, because of all the stories and references and overall his way of explaining things. But Piper is just so passionate about God’s glory, to me he is like modern day psalmist
That is close to a true statement. At least for our current times, he is one of the very few who are gifted as such. We were blessed to follow his teaching for a good decade. Now that he is with the Lord, his efforts will continue in one form or other, for always.

You are not addicts because of sin. You do the sin habitually because of your view of that (those) sins. If you do not consider its measure of consequence to be costly enough, you will continue to practice it. We have the Holy Spirit. We have the word of God. We have all the means to turn from our sin. But we tend to sin in spite of it all. And we do it continually even while God is continually renewing us with the Holy Spirit.
Jacob Jones Sin doesn't make us addicts. I have learned that my view of the sin I keep doing is habitual sin. Let's take sexual fantasy. This is a big problem for many men and women. It leads to pornography, Self Sexual Relief (masterbation), views of ourselves in a manner that feeds lust. Lust is our driving sin. In order to defeat lust, we have to come to a place in which we view it right. If you were to have a gun, bomb, needle filled with a poisonous gas or liquid placed at your head or whatever and told not to curse or masturbate watching porn, or any particular sin other than an actual addiction, or your mom is dead, would you continue to that sin?

Jeremiah 2.20: the AV says "...thou wanderest, playing the harlot". The translation is robust, without resorting to vulgarity, which would have been absent also in the Hebrew despite the graphic nature of the argument and the literal meaning of the words. I have been a professional translator for thirty years, and from this modest standpoint I wish to suggest that a literal rendering of the original words endows them with a vulgarity that would not have been present for a native speaker of the Hebrew language at the time. The basis for my statement is twofold: firstly, it is my job to be aware of the different register that words can assume based on different usages and linguistic customs and I know from experience that sexual references are extremely sensitive to cultural register variations. Secondly, the Bible is the Word of God, and it is unthinkable to me that the Holy One of Israel would utter a vulgarity. I like Mr Keller's work in the main and I thank him for it. I am merely defending the Bible here.

I love listening to Pastor Tim Keller's messages. But, the link in the description that claims to point to a webpage with more sermons from this series, actually points to a webpage where user is presented with options to buy all kinds of unrelated things. The first thing I saw was a link to buy all of Tim Keller sermons for $1,600! This is something that turns people who are truly seeking God, and those who are curious, completely away! It seems so disingenuous and like other things that turn people away from church, when it seems like a money grab. Please don't turn people away from this man's good work and away from Jesus Christ to disingenuous tactics such as this.

I neither said nor insinuated that a person HAS to buy all of the sermons and that none of them are free... that wouldn't even make sense given that I'm watching it free in this video. My comment was specifically about THE LINK ITSELF - NOT the general availability of free vs paid content. I would not even have a problem if the link said specifically "to purchase sermons click here". But it seems disingenuous to link from a FREE sermon about God to paid content without making it apparent that that's what's going on. The Israelites turn to different idol(s) seeking worldly successes and prosperity yet return to God when hardships befall or even as a last resort when the idol(s) don't seem to be working. They are seeking God only to save them from certain circumstances rather than falling into a genuine relationship with Him. They desire to have the best of the world and God when those values can and usually are ultimately conflicting. Jesus would make this clear in the New Testament when He makes it clear how we must seek Him as Lord and not just Savior along with how we can't serve multiple masters but just one whicb has to be Him always. Culture portrays worldly success and religion as being correlated together but they are the opposite things since the Kingdom of Heaven along with the powers of the world are competiting ones. Jesus would fulfill this and ultimately makes this very clear as He preaches the main theme of Kingdom of Heaven which is the main theme of His message; and preaches how a man can't serve more than one master along with how the ultimate and only master needs to be God. Idols don't surface in religious and/or spiritual forms but can really be anything. Many people even worship such idols unconsciously and by default as well. And it can even be good things which can be wrongfully used as idols. Even things like being of great character can be idols if we worship it rather than God.
Tolkien was a very devout Christian intellectual. He infused his tale with Christian ethics and principles throughout. Don't base your judgment of them upon Peter Jackson's adaptations alone, but make sure you actually read the books themselves before you make your decision on that. I personally have found them to be very helpful in the development of my understanding of God and the human condition.
